Property's Favorite Review
I stayed with my family of 5 in 2 rooms of this central guesthouse. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean and tasteful, the kitchen facilites were good and the location was ideal. All in all a very enjoyable stay with everything you need for a guesthouse stay.

The room was clean, which was nice. However, this ended up being a not so great stay for us. We had to call to inquire about breakfast (and good thing we did, or else we would have just skipped the meal!) because our room was missing meal vouchers that apparently were supposed to be on our bed when we got there. In the morning, we had to wait 45 minutes for the bathroom as someone was taking a long shower and there is only one bathroom. We ended up washing our faces and brushing our teeth in the kitchen sink and barely had time to sneak in to use the toilet before the next person came in to shower. Our door also banged back and forth loudly throughout the night because of the wind and we were woken up by loud talking in the kitchen, which was next to our room, in the morning. It was overall a fine place but would probably not recommend.

Response from Vala M, General Manager at Puffin Palace Guesthouse

Hello Mariellulu, I'm sorry with the mixup with the breakfast vouchers, it was a human error. The girl that placed the wrong vouchers in your room is new at the job and made a mistake, again we are sorry but good thing you spotted it and we could replace them. I hope you enjoyed the breakfast. About other guests being inconsiderate I feel bad about it. We try to ask people to be considered when during peek season and almost always it is fine and no problem. But, there are always bad apples and you unfortunately shared the guesthouse with some. I hope the rest of your journey here in Iceland will be full of adventure. Safe travels.

The quality of your stay will depend largely on who else is there at the time as we shared a toilet and full bath with another family and a single person. Everyone was friendly and respectful and no one took long showers. We didn't use the kitchen but it would be great if one needed to cook. We had some problems with the room locks (they were hard to manipulate and rather noisy). The rooms were spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. There were blackout curtains over the windows. We got a coupon for breakfast at a bakery across the street that included a sandwich. I wasn't able to eat there, as I need gluten free and they didn't have anything. Located on the main street, the restaurants were close, as was the marina. This was a very relaxing and easy place to stay. Our only interaction with staff was through email detailing check in (we were given a code for the lockbox which contained the keys). This worked out very well as we got in on the later side. I received the email a couple days before so that worked out perfectly; it was a good way to do things.

The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet and spacious. The bathroom was clean as was kitchen. I couldn't hear other guests. The kitchen was good, I was able to make a few meals while there which was helpful. Was a good base for some exploring and filming I was doing around the area. I visited Fosslaug natural hot pool near the waterfall which was fun. Not super hot in winter, but warm and fun nonetheless. The bakery across the road is awesome. There is a second hand camera shop next door well worth a look if you're a photographer/artist!

A really friendly, well run little place easy to find. Clean, cosy and warm. Pleasant shared facilities and with a few local eateries around it all went to do exactly as expected. Off the beaten track too!
