We booked a room for 4 nights in advance for a price of $280 per night. When we arrived in the hotel and noticed a huge mismatch between the price and the overall level of the hotel, we decided to check the current prices. We were very disappointed to find out, that the current rate for the same room was $170 per night. I know about the live pricing system, but normally hotels go from reasonable price to a discounted price to sell available rooms. Aurora Lodge does the opposite: they start from extremely overpriced rate and then come to a more or less reasonable rate. Since that, we will base our review on a $280 that we paid. The hotel is bad and the service is very poor. In more details: - The room was quite small - No sound proofing - No TV / Phone / Safe locker - The only one wardrobe did not have neither doors nor shelves (= useless) - No place to put anything - There was a kettle, but no socket to plug it in - The hotel was located in a fantastic landscape, but most of the rooms had windows facing the inner car park - No shower gel in the hotel (only shampoo) - No shelves in the shower - Very poor breakfast (ham, cheese, cereals. That’s it. Good coffee for an extra charge) - There were hot tubs outside, but the area did not have a shower. If you wanna take a shower before – take it in the room and walk across the car park. - The “hot” tub was cold in the afternoon, but there was nobody around (neither at reception, nor anywhere else) to check it - There was a sauna, but the entrance to it is strait from outside. No place to put towels/glasses/anything else. You have to drop everything on the floor. - During our stay, there was only one lady from the hotel stuff. She was handling literally everything. Cooking breakfast with one hand and checking out guests at the same time with another one. To conclude, we claimed about the case to Hotels.com. They tried to reach Aurora Lodge, but they couldn’t. Finally, we got a refund from Hotels.com and I hope they will somehow penalize Aurora. We travelled around Iceland and stayed in many hotels and guesthouses. All of them had better price / quality ratio.

We stayed here one night for $190 which I think is a little over priced. The room was very small and basic but it was very clean. The view is of a pasture so not much really. The staff was very nice. We had breakfast and that was very good and homemade. The rooms are not connected to the main lodge and that is why I really don't think it's a hotel. It's very quiet and about 1 mile off the main road. I always mention the curtains in Iceland as it stays light there 24 hours a day. The curtains were ok and did let some light in. There is a nice hot tub and sauna. The professional pictures the lodge had done are impressive but to get a real sense you need to look at the travel photos.

Based on all the superlative 5-star reviews, I expected a lot more from this place. First, the room was barely basic mid-west cheap motel. For the most part, it wasn't bad. But it had an absolutely fatal flaw. Over each side of the bed, there was a lamp. The light switch and electrical outlet were right behind the pillow at mattress level. Meaning that a phone charger could not be plugged in at night, but wait, it's even worse. Twice I rolled over at night and the bump of the pillow turned on the light! After the 2nd time, I unscrewed the bulb. It really didn't matter much because the curtains were paper thin and let the light in any way. The views? What, the view of a pasture was excellent? If you're looking for a view, this is not the place. The location was excellent in terms of access to the south coast. But I'd chose something else - especially at this price!

We turned up at the hotel in the evening 27/4/19 and met 4 other would-be guests in the car park in same position - the hotel has clearly shut down. It was completely empty, no staff, locked and heaps of furniture everywhere and in the rooms. One of the couples called the hotel number and a lady answered saying that it had closed but that she didn't own the business. We booked through Hotels.com who gave us no prior warning of this, neither did the hotel. We had to book last minute accommodation locally. DO NOT BOOK!

This is a great base if you are exploring the Golden Circle route. The accommodation in cabins is itself basic but everybody you need and clean, with few extras like kettle, robes etc. The lodge itself is charming and a wonderful place to relax. The views are stunning and they have hot tubs that perfectly positioned to soak them up. Food at dinner was the most amazing Lamb I had on our trip. The free breakfast is plentiful and there is coffee/tea available all day. Staff are exceptionally helpful, especially with information so we stayed safe in the storm. Highly recommended, wish we could have stayed more than I night!
