I stayed at their guesthouse - they have a hotel as well - and ate a typical Icelandic breakfast (cold cuts, bread, cheese, skyr, granola, fruit). Really nice place about 13 km from Road 1. Very quiet and relaxing. Apparently, you can get a great view of the aurora borealis during the winter here. Anyway, the room was extremely comfortable,... More

This was certainly among our top 2 campsites in South Iceland. The guesthouse kitchen, hot showers, hot tub (!) and grill area all made for a top notch camping experience. The owners were incredibly nice and welcoming and the breakfast was wonderful. We were traveling alone as a couple, but this would have been a great little spot for kids... More

Stayed at the campsite for one night, and I was very happy with the choice. All sorts of farm animals which were very fun, and also the friendliest cat I have ever met. I'm pretty sure that cat is my soulmate. Staff was awesome and very helpful, and the hot tub was really nice.

Had a good time at Smaratun. The staff is very friendly and very courteous. I stayed in the Chalet and it was small but perfect for what I needed. You have a full size bed and a bunk bed in the room as well as a desk. The space was more than enough for me. The food here was actually... More

I stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour. I thought it was great. I would definitely recommend the horse riding - you get to ride through streams and over farmland in the shadow of the beautiful Eyjafjallajokull volcano (yes, the one that erupted in 2010). The breakfast buffet was delicious, I'd recommend the homemade skyr in... More

We stayed for 2 nights at the Smaratun farm guesthouse. Be aware that several lodging formulas are available at Smaratun (be sure to check their website before booking): - the hotel: about 15 rooms in the main building - quite expensive for the small rooms you'll get but they have en-suite bathroom. Breakfast is included. Wifi is included (rather poor... More

We just slept there one night, in the cottage. Our cottage was small, but clean, warm, just the lockers were a little bit difficult to handle. There is a guest kitchen. Breakfast was self-service and very good.

I've tried more or less 10 different farm during my last trip in Iceland, but this one is probably my favorite one! Very close to the Eyjafjallajokull mountain, it is surrounded by the awesome icelandic panorama: hills, ice, mountains, water, horses and so on. The structure is very nice, as well as the rooms, clean and comfortable. The dinner and... More

This review is for one of the five chalets at offer by Smáratún Guesthouse. Note that besides chalets, the establishment also offers a guesthose and cottages. I stayed there by myself in May 2014, but note that they room up to four people but the price is the same. The scenery of course is just fantastic. The chalets are located... More

Just the drive from Hvollsvolur to here was pretty amazing. You get to see all these dormant and semi-active volcano's in the backgound for km's all around. The area is also littered with horse farms and little settlements with tiny chuches. I was looking forward to staying in the guesthouse which appeared very charming on various website photos. But we... More
