The Volcano Huts are located in Húsadalur Valley in the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve in Iceland, right next to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano & Glacier. The unique nature of the Þórsmörk area makes this an ideal place for hiking and nature exploring. We offer accommodation, local food, tours and activities in Iceland for groups and individuals. Accommodation is available in glamping tents, sheepherders cottages, private bedrooms, cabin dormitories, and camping grounds. Þórsmörk Nature Reserve is the best place in Iceland for hiking and nature exploring. The area offers beautiful landscapes, with active volcanoes and towering glaciers riseing above the lush valleys below. The Þórsmörk area has endless hiking trails and is connected to the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve via the Laugavegur hiking trail and Skógar via the Fimmvorduhals trail. The LavaGrill Restaurant & bar offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, homemade cakes and coffee. We can also send you off with a packed lunch to take with you on your hike. The bar offers a selection of local beers and other drinks. IMPORTANT! How to get here - Please note that you will have to take a special mountain bus to get here as you will have to cross big rivers on the way. You can take the bus all the way from Reykjavik or leave your car and hop onboard the bus at various stops along the way. Getting here is part of the adventure!

This was absolutely perfect for hiking one of the most beautiful hikes in the world, the fimmvörðuháls trail! Managing logistics was difficult but Pauline, who works at the huts, was extremely helpful and not only helped to make arrangements, but made sure everything went smoothly. We stayed in the private rooms and they were great for what we needed. We peaked in the glamping tents and they looked very nice! We went across the river multiple times and it was crazy fun. Everything about this trip was crazy fun and beautiful!

We stopped in one of the glamping tents for 2 nights. We were concerned that it might be cold, but there was a little electric heater which kept the tent lovely and warm all the time. The staff were really friendly, when we arrived the dining area was really full but they found us a table from nowhere. The food was OK, nothing special, but this is basically a camp site. The dinner was better than the breakfast which was very limited. The showers were always really warm. The walks and views around were excellent.

The glamping tent exceeded my expectations and lived up to the online photos. The mattress was comfortable. Clean sheets and towels were provided. There is an electric space heater with a fan, and extra outlets (EU-style) for charging your devices. Near the entrance a small sitting area offers two comfortable chairs and a table. In August, the inner screen door would offer a nice view and breeze but in July it was too cool and rainy to take advantage of it. Dinner at the restaurant was from a buffet with salad, soup, meat, fish, sides, and a vegetarian entree option as well. We did not go away hungry. Both cash and credit cards are accepted. There is a tip jar for the mostly young and eager staff, with no option to tip if you pay by card. We observed an international crowd of diners including both Icelanders and foreigners. Don't get me started on the sitting pool and sauna. At reception they tried to lower our expectations ("it's not hot, more warm") but they still didn't do it justice. The pool is an 8-inch deep luke-warm puddle (probably 70 F on the day we visited, which was admittedly much warmer than the air temperature). The sauna was out of order.

This is a beautiful location and the tents are really nice and comfortable. Best outdoor sleep in a long time. The camping area however is quite boring. The hot bath is awful and the sauna out of order. Cozy dining area with a cool hiking vibe. Dinner is ok but breakfast is simple and low quality.

We backpacked the Laugavegur Trail and this was our terminus. We had stayed in the huts along the way which is more comfortable than tent camping as kitchens and cookware are available as well as sleeping mats. This particular venue provides three types of sleeping: your own tent (free), "glamping" tents or small dorm-style rooms with shared indoor toilets. A well stocked shop/restaurant with good food and some picnic items forms the base of the operation. There is a small sauna and a natural hot tub available. There are outdoor showers also. If you don't hike to the location you can get here by bus. There are amazing trails all around to hike or run. Overall, a beautiful slice of Iceland!

After an amazing morning of hiking we ate lunch at this spot. The food, although simple, was quite tasty and the ambience was great. This spot reminded me of places I stayed at when I hiked in Europe. The staff was efficient and I look forward to returning for more hiking and eating!

This was our second visit to Volcano Huts and it is still as good as it was. We took 3 diiferent hikes: Valahnukur, Stakkholtsgjá, and Tindfjöll Circle. The staff here, Jana and her crew, are wonderful and kind and make for a very welcoming visit. Now we just have to return during their winter season…

We stayed at the glamping tent. It has a huge bed, chairs, night tables, duvets and fresh towels. Its an amazing experience with a comfort of a hotel room. The tent has even a small heater but it takes a while for the tent to heat up. The tent was comfortable and very clean. The showers and toilets are located near the main building and they were very clean. Breakfast was good but a bit expensive. Burger for lunch was OK, nothing great. The staff was very friendly. While glamping is one thing, the hiking paths near the Volcano Huts is a different thing, many different paths with amazing views!

We stayed in a glamping tent and it was amazing. Huge bed with duvets and towels. Also night tables were present and two chairs. Very clean and comfortable tent. There is a small heater that you can turn on but it takes a while for the tent to heat up. Breakfast was good but a bit to expensive. Burger for lunch was ok but nothing special. Toilets and showers are near the main building and they were clean. Volcano Huts is located near many hiking paths and that is the main attraction.

One of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Iceland was our brief stay at the Volcano Huts. We opted to drive our 4x4 to the main river and hike the rest of the way in. The crossing bridge may be further up the canyon than you think, so be prepared for this. And you need to hike over the mountain ridge to get to Volcano huts. Once there, we found the Rustic tent camping to be AMAZING and fun!! The food quality was quite good and we enjoyed our meals. Take the hike straight up from the huts to the mountain above, all the way up. This was the most amazing vista we had the entire 2 weeks of our trip. If we come back to Iceland again, we will be staying several nights at the Volcano Huts. VERY highly recommended
