Travelers' Choice
UMI hotel is located by one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the country; the hotel is only about 150 km away from Reykjavik and 2 km off the Ring road (Road NR. 1). Our location offers a strong connection to nature that allows our guests to experience the peace and quiet of the Icelandic countryside. The hotel offers a first class restaurant with a unique view of the Westman Islands and the southern coastline, as well as a lounge bar with a view of the famous sub-glacial volcano Eyjafjallajokull and the beautiful mountain terrain surrounding it. Next to our hotel the river Svadbaelisa peacefully flows by. The starlit skies and northern lights certainly won’t let anyone down over the winter months. The hotel is non-smoking and open all year round.

SO MUCH WONDERFUL. The dinner was the best Lamb I've EVER EVR hade! The Chive Butter changed my perspective on buttered bread. The staff are so nice and will wake you when the Northern Lights are performing. The nearby black sand beach is mind-blowing. EVERYONE traveling through southern Iceland MUST, MUST , MUST stop here for a night and a meal.

This is fabulous hotel. An added bonus is the food. I have eaten in numerous Michelin Star restaurants and the food here is right up there. Will definitely return for the food alone. :) All staff are pleasant and attentive.

We stayed only one night, but it was great. We had very nice dinner at the restaurant, and had nice walk to the private black beach next morning. The room was clean and modern with a big window. We didn’t have luck to see the northern light, but there was a service to knock the door when it appears. We will definitely come back!

My husband and I traveled to Iceland for our anniversary trip. We stayed at UMI Hotel while visiting sites in South Iceland. The accommodations were luxurious; meals delicious; and staff friendly and courteous. We look forward to returning to Iceland in the future and will absolutely choose UMI Hotel again.

UMI is located on a gravel road about 1 mile long filled with potholes that you need to navigate through. Once you’ve arrived, you’re greeted by the friendliest people and a beautiful and clean hotel. The rooms are average but very clean, the only downside being the mattresses feel like you’re sleeping on concrete. My husband and I didn’t get very good sleep the two nights we were there but we loved the location, the customer service, and the proximity to Vik and the Black Sand Beach. If beds aren’t a huge issue for you, this is the place to stay. If you need a more comfortable bed, I think you should perhaps look elsewhere.

A wonderful stay – fantastic location and facilities, professional and friendly staff, comfortable beds, good shower. Appreciated that there were electric-vehicle charging stations in the parking area. The sea-view room was peaceful and had a great view over the meadow to the beach, and the nearby trail to the beach and along the river was beautiful, too. Dinner was delicious and the dining room also had wonderful views. The location on the south coast makes it ideal to use as a home base to explore the area and sites like the black beaches, waterfalls, glaciers, and other sites. The only thing that was a potential issue was that you can hear people in the corridor very easily, but overall this wasn't much of a nuisance. Definitely look forward to returning.

Was on a 6 day trip with friends to Iceland. This hotel was located in a great location. Beautiful view of the mountains from the front, grassland field in the back with pathway that led to vast, beautiful private black sand beach. Service was perfect, food was delicious, rooms clean and well supplied, bar was relaxing area. Wonderful stay.

Hotel is ideally located for a broad exploration of the Southern part of Iceland. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Dinner at the restaurant was Michelin quality- total surprise bonus! The Icelandic cod preparation rivaled Michelin experiences in the Bay Area. Rooms are small, but Scandinavian chic. Would prefer more room for putting away clothes and bathroom is a bit small, but fine for 2-3 night stay.

UMI Hotel is a very sophisticated hotel in a starkly beautiful setting. Given that it is on the coast, I thought the fact that there were only mountain-view rooms left to book was a bit of a disappointment - but I couldn't have been more mistaken! I would strongly recommend that side. The food at the restaurant was exquisite. The staff was more than helpful. The location is such that just about everything east of Reykjavik on the southern coast to Vik can easily be visited in a day.
