We stayed here for one night and it was a wonderful experience. Clean and comfortable rooms and every employee was so helpful and friendly. We ate dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the wild mushroom soup, puffin, reindeer carpaccio, and our entrees of salmon and beef.

We LOVED our stay at Hotel Ranga! The rooms are beautifully appointed, extremely comfortable, and spacious. The restaurant has Icelandic delights to appeal to any pallet. Most importantly, the staff are so gracious, helpful, professional, and completely delightful.

This is a beauty of a spot on the south coast enabling day trips with a place to relax at end of day. We stayed 3 nights and really liked traveling back to the hotel and enjoying a fantastic dinner each night. The staff was engaging and wrote out places for us to visit that were not crowded. I think 3 nights stay was perfect before moving on to other areas. If you want a full week of relaxation, stay here and enjoy the hot tub and 24/7 bar and food availability. Its rustic charm was inviting and I’m already planning another trip!

Like the owner of this hotel, I too have travelled the world on business. I have to say that hotel is the least deserving of the title ‘luxury’ that I have ever stayed in. In fact, in many respects I would place it in the ‘budget’ category. We were here for Christmas and checked out early because of our disappointment. Based on the website and an array of misleading Trip Advisor reviews, we came here with high expectations. However…….the mouldy bathroom, ancient and mismatched furniture, cheap curtains which did not fit the windows, walls so thin you could hear the next room urinate during the night, left us completely underwhelmed for the money we were paying. This hotel is comparable with a budget hotel in many ways. The one big plus was the restaurant, where we ate terrific food on every occasion. It is a shame though that the kitchen have their radio so loud that it dominates the lounge area. We checked out and went to stay at The Edition in the city, which was much more deserving of the title ‘luxury’ (and for less money too!). I genuinely do not understand why there are so many ‘rave’ reviews about this place, I can only imagine that many of the authors have not travelled the world and have the same level of expectation of ‘luxury’ that the website purports.

Overall we had an ok stay here. As a member of the Small Leading Hotels I had expected a more elevated experience but it looked like the hotel was last renovated 30 years ago. Actually, to me, the decor is really odd and off putting. They supposedly have “theme” rooms but as far as I could tell, that just meant there were painted murals of Vikings, etc. Did not add to the ambiance. The couch in the room looked very old; the bathrooms could use a serious remodeling. In addition, the drains in all the bathrooms (our group altogether had three rooms) were incredibly slow. There was no shower curtain or glass for the large soaking tub in the room, so we stood in the shower and tried very hard not to spray everything in the bathroom. Dinner and breakfast were fine - perhaps amongst the best that we had experienced in Iceland. However, I would probably look to stay elsewhere next time. The location was convenient for exploring the South Coast, so I hope they renovate the property soon to be worthy of a “Small Leading Hotel”.

We loved this hotel, it is quirky and memorable with a great restaurant and breakfast included. Service was friendly also. Showers could be improved. I think it's a must stay if you're in the area, but it is pricey.

Greeted with a welcome drink and then the host gave us a local schnapps in frozen volcanic rock glasses. Room had corner jacuzzi bath. Personalised note in the room with a postcard inviting guests to write it and hotel would post it (ours was received in UK within a few days). Dinner was sensational, view over the river from the dining room. Breakfast also delicious and included champagne for those who wanted it plus a waffle maker to make your own. We visited the observatory as it was a clear night, an astronomer from Reykjavik had come out to set up the telescope's and give us some fascinating facts about Mars, Venus, Saturn, Aurora ... Then the piece de resistance was seeing the Northern lights from the comfort of our room.and after receiving the registered call from the hotel when the lights were visible. We also took advantage of 1 of the 3 outdoor spa baths heated geothermically and drank our morning coffee from the reception area upstairs. Excellent hotel. Recommend!

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Hotel Ranga. The hotel is located far off of the main road in a remote location and so is very peaceful and quiet. The hotel is warm and welcoming, and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Our deluxe superior room was spacious with a view of the Ranga River and the mountains, and the beds were very comfortable. The food was excellent. There is an observatory next to the hotel where we looked at the moon through telescopes. The hotel provides wake-up calls for the Northern Lights, and a highlight of our trip was receiving a 1am wake-up call to see the Northern Lights. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ranga and recommend it very highly.

This is an amazing small luxury hotel ideally suited for viewing the aurora (weather and spaceweather permitting). This is the second time we have stayed here in 10 years and it didn't disappoint. Extra bonus was delicious hot chocolate to accompany the aurora.
