Visited Hotel Ranga on Thursday 16 March 2017 for two nights with my husband, son and daughter. Very good hotel, friendly staff and lovely deluxe rooms. Two hours drive from Keflavik airport. We were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights on our first evening, which was what our daughter wanted for her 30th birthday gift, so weren't we lucky?...

Spending a 5D4N at this hotel for the Age of Aurora package has been a dream vacation. I started following this hotel's webcam to catch glimpse of the aurora and a year and a quarter later, I am here! Reviews after reviews, people have been highly recommending this hotel located at the south region of Iceland for the best experience...

We spent one night here on a 4 day trip to Iceland and it didn't disappoint. Like all the places we visited it was expensive but when in Rome ... or Iceland! We had a deluxe room which overlooked the car park side but soon overcame the disappointment of that. The room was clean and comfortable and the jacuzzi was...

I enjoyed this property, which I will call "luxury rustic." It has the decor and feeling of an upscale ski lodge. Staff will awaken you if the Northern Lights appear. Hotel is very isolated so good for viewing if the Lights are cooperative (when the skies are absolutely clear). Food is very good and staff very pleasant. It's best to...

We stayed for three nights and found the hotel to be warm, comfortable and friendly. The staff were polite and efficient and made us feel special. The breakfast each morning was so much more than any we've had in a hotel before catering for many different nationalities with everything you could possibly need or want. The lounge areas were relaxing...

We stayed at Hotel Ranga for 3 nights as part of my husband's 40th and it was also our first trip away since our 3 children burst onto the scene. The remote location is lovely, so very peaceful. Our room overlooked the river and was 10 paces away from one of the hot tubs. The hot tubs were very clean...

We stayed x1 night at Hotel Ranga. We were hoping to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately the weather was bad (raining and cloudy) and did not see the Northern Lights. Even though we notified the hotel in advance and the hotel reception on arrival that I was on a vegan die, and the waiter at dinner etc. none of...

This hotel exceeded our expectations over and over again. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel special. We were upgraded to the Master Suite (unbelievably large and gorgeous) with well wishes from the staff. Dinner was delicious and everyone was told about a northern light sighting so we all took a mini break to go outside....

We had stayed at the Ranga four years ago and enjoyed our stay so much we included it on our itinerary again during our trip this year to the South East of Iceland. We felt that the rooms whilst comfortable are now showing their age and would probably benefit from updating. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were laughably...

We booked Ranga as the most luxurious hotel outside of Reykjavik. They don't claim to be 5-star (in fact they proudly admit to being 4-star), but upon viewing the bill you could be forgiven for thinking you'd paid for 5-star. The hotel is in a beautiful location, sitting on the banks of one of Iceland's best salmon rivers (apparently), and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
