The Retreat is as you would expect. Well appointed, well serviced and well catered. The staff are attentive in a discreet way and the amenities of an appropriate standard. Rooms are spacious and clean and thoughtful touches, such as ensuring the correct robe and slide sizes are welcomed, as are the nightly chocolates and turndown service. One of the best parts was the lagoon attached to the retreat. To enjoy all the Blue Lagoon has to offer without the crowds was brilliant. It made for a relaxing experience as did the restrictions on children in the space. This was a wonderful way to finish our Iceland trip.

The Retreat is a Five Star Boutique Hotel. Period. I’m writing this review in our private lagoon suite. The views are of the lava fields, surrounding mountains and of our private lagoon where the water is about 100F. The salt and silica make the water a beautiful light blue. It’s brought up from a mile down where the ocean meets the lava. The bathtub, shower, lighting, living room, mini bar, bed and linens are all top notch and remind me of similar modern Euro style super yachts I have stayed on. Yes, you read that correctly, and although the yachts are expensive, staying in one of these suites is not inexpensive. But a similar feel. You really don’t even have to leave the room, but we did and this is what we found… The spa: unbelievable again. Treatment rooms, staff, food at the spa, public areas at the spa are all consistent with a Four Seasons meets Como hotels experience. It’s all five stars with an incredible staff. My wife did a signature in water float massage treatment, and I did a bench massage. Even if you are staying in the lagoon suite it’s stunning to be in the pools at the spa. LAVA restaurant: good service, good menu, loud, crowded, lots of visitors not staying at the Retreat. It’s 3 stars at best. Breakfast in the lobby: fantastic buffet, gourmet coffee, order off the menu, solid service, great views, wood fireplace, overall, it’s what you expect in a hotel of this caliber. MOSS Restaurant: What would you expect at a Michelin Star restaurant? Beyond the unbelievable menu and wine pairings. This restaurant ranks as one of the best I have ever dined in on the planet. Hats off to the chef, sommelier, waiters, maître d’, etc. the experience, food presentation etc. is truly amazing. It’s a 5+ star experience.

I booked this holiday last year, as an anniversary present for me and my wife, without the kids... this hotel is amazing... from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave... The staff are so helpful... the rooms are spotless and stylish and it feels like you're in Bond movie.... You basically have access to the Blue lagoon privately away from the public... which we loved.... We went to the gym both days and got up and did Yoga, eat in the restaurants and had massage Therapy and used the saunas/wet rooms and scrubs... One day we walked up a mountain to look over the Blue Lagoon... Yes its expensive, but its worth it as a treat, because its the ultimate kinda of style.... we loved it here and we loved Iceland... I wish we had been there longer

Great, just great! The hotel is a real exclusive and it is not in vain that it has gained worldwide fame. Incredible design and one of the best spas in the world. Special thanks to the manager Michail, without him the rest would not have been so wonderful! Incredible attention and help from him in everything. We will come again and again

I appreciate a great destination spa hotel however this one acts more like a $450 night property Vs the $1600 one that it is. Service is sub par at best. They run out of seats at breakfast, have limited TV’s so if you want to watch a movie for a treat - good luck. And there are endless mistakes made with spa bookings because offsite reservations makes spa appointments and doesn’t understand the offerings. Sure the lagoon is beautiful but then again Sky Lagoon that i went too was even more stunning.

What an amazing experience. Once you walk in, it will be so completely stress free. We were fortunate to get a changing room while waiting for our room to be available. This allows use of the fantastic spa facilities, the private lagoon and spa restaurant. Our room was ready for us earlier than the normal check in time, this is always appreciated. The staff are some of the most delightful, and efficient. The water massage is fantastic, it should be booked ahead if possible. We were only able to stay 1 night, but we hope to be bank soon. Overall a wonderful experience.

Fabulous. Beautiful rooms – with a top sheet! The only hotel we stayed in that had one. Great shower. Wonderful service. They give you a tour of the spa. You cannot take pictures in this part of the lagoon. Only the larger part. Breakfast was very nice. There was a cold buffet and then you can order off the menu. The “private” lagoon was very nice. Definitely go to all levels. I thought the level closest to the building was the warmest. Very few people there when we were there before dinner and the next morning. There are drinks in the room that are complimentary (a small bottle of red and white wine, water, juice, and a coke). We overlooked a small part of the lagoon and lava rocks so you could keep the drapes open and nobody can see in so it’s very private.

If you are visiting Iceland, this place is really a must! Design - clean lines and very modern. Atmosphere - luxury, with contemporary designs, spacious high ceilings, open lobby, the hotel felt a bit commercial, formal and non personal Rooms - very designer with lots of little gadgets, great little touches promoting inhouse products which you can buy at their gift shops Breakfast - good selection and variety Service - nothing stood out, not the worst nor the best Spa - a MUST go, great experience, it was a journey with all the different mud scrubs, masques, lagoon visit etc. Restaurant - the one we visited was good This may not be the best hotel with the best service ever... but this is a hotel where you are here for the incredible experience as part of the Iceland journey/adventure! Surrounded by lava rocks, thermal spa and spectacular sceneries!

The hotel is stunning, with it’s architecture, SPA, blue lagoons and food. The only thing I would draw attention to, is the communication - there were road works going on, so the time to get to airport were 45 minutes, not 20 minutes as usual. We were lucky to catch the plane, but would have been helpful if somebody would have warned us about it when booking a taxy at the hotel.
