What a fantastic restaurant.?Has to be one of the best. The menu was great, lots of choice as a taster. Been to a few Michelin stars. But as you go through, not everything is to your liking. But offered and discussed alternatives. Two very happy people celebrating an anniversary Great staff. Gets 5 stars from me. And a very big special thank you to all at the Dill.

Stunning property with the private retreat - lagoon. Amenities superb. Lava rest, a must Found breakfast service slow. Do not reserve airport transportation through hotel - unreliable on two occasions which caused stress at the end of a great lodging experience.

We were just asked to leave the Retreat at 11:30 AM. We had no problem checking out at 11 AM, but assumed that we could go for a swim before leaving. We were told by staff that their policy is that you are no longer a guest of the property after 11 AM and you need to leave. This was never disclosed during check-in or anywhere, until the 11 AM checkout time. If breakfast had not taken so long, then maybe we would have had the time to go for a swim. We have stayed at many luxury 5 star resorts around the world and have never experienced this. On another note, we asked 3x to have staff take our picture as cameras are not allowed in the pool area, but the staff never showed up as requested. I’m our opinion, don’t waste your money on The Retreat, their attitude does not demonstrate a desire for return guests. One positive is that the property and our room was gorgeous.

Dear Tom R, We would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate any comments and feedback concerning guest experience and we are saddened to read about your thoughts. Check-in and check out times at the Retreat can be found on our website and in the booking confirmation when you make a reservation. Although we try our very best to see if late check-out is available on the departure day if requested we are unable to guarantee it. Whilst we appreciate any disappointment this may have caused, we did a further investigation in to your case and our team did offer solutions in order for you to use the facilities after check-out. If you would like to elaborate any further into your case please do not hesitate to send us an email to customercare@bluelagoon.is We of course welcome any feedback and appreciate the time you took to leave a review. I cannot even begin to say enough good things about our stay! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. We were immediately met by the valet and an attendant for our luggage who showed us inside. We were seated at a comfortable table for registration with glasses of champagne and a gorgeous view of a private lagoon and the lava rocks. When we got to our room, the attendant had already hung our jackets and brought our luggage after a very quick and efficient check in. Our room was beyond perfect! The bed was incredibly comfortable with the most gorgeous view. The shower had amazing water pressure and was filled with the products from the spa. They even provided face wash and moisturizer. I was hesitant to use them, as I have sensitive skin and have used the same products for years, but I tried them and now I am hooked! The bathtub looked out over the open lava fields and lagoon and was very private and had even more spa products. The room also came with a very generous mini-bar with wine, beer, sparkling water, pepsi, coffee, tea and other drinks and snacks. Once we were settled, we went to afternoon tea. Being American, we ordered coffee, but watched in envy as everyone else ordered tea that came in adorable tea pots. Our coffee was still very good, but we switched to tea next time! The tiers of pastries and finger sandwiches were wonderful and beautifully presented. The next morning, we woke up to our gorgeous view and decided to make the most of our day. My husband went to the clean, modern fitness center, while I went to yoga in the intimate, peaceful yoga studio. We went to breakfast and were excited to see the variety of pastries, fruits, yogurt, and fresh juices available, but that was only the start. There was a menu of several wonderful healthy, and not so healthy, options. My eggs benedict were so good, I ordered them again the next day. We went back to get showered before we finally went to the lagoon and spa to do the ritual. This was several steps consisting of soaking in the lagoon, a sauna, a steam room, a cold plunge pool, and then the best part- the face and body masks. There is a black lava scrub, followed by a silica mask that draws out impurities and strengthens skin, and finally the algae mask that moisturizes and stimulates collagen production. After rinsing off, we were given a cold washcloth to close our pores and face and body oil for moisture. Then we went to the fireplace room to relax before heading to the spa restaurant for a light lunch before our massages. We opted for regular massages rather than in the water. My masseuse was incredible and worth every penny! They serve drinks in a section of the private lagoon, while there are plenty of other areas of the lagoon to hang out in a private area and relax. This is a whole different experience than going to the typical Blue Lagoon. They don’t allow phones in the spa or lagoon, which makes a world of difference. The last time we were at the Blue Lagoon it was filled with Instagram photo shoots and Tic Tok videos. It was not really as relaxing or quiet as it had been in the past. At the Retreat, the lagoon is carved down into the lava rocks and feels quiet and private, yet you can find new friends near the bar window, or one of the pools near it. The price of the hotel is incredibly high, but the experience was amazing! We have visited the neighboring Silica Hotel three times in the past, and decided to give the Retreat a try. I still love the Silica, but I can’t wait to go back to the Retreat for a special occasion again soon. Many people will go for only one night, but I will suggest that anyone that goes spends at least two nights. It was so nice to have a full day to fully relax and enjoy the spa without thinking about needing to be anywhere other than my massage appointment. I can’t wait to go back again one day!

the Retreat would hold its own against any 5 star hotel. Rooms are minimalistic but very functional. We stayed in a full Moss suite, but i think the junior suite would have been fine. The spa is obviously a delight, and can be enjoyed over and over. Great hike nearby to a local park. Food at Moss was superb, especially for a vegetarian. Andrea (?) the only female waiter in a jacket was wonderful. Dominic made checkin easy and always had a great smile. couldnt recommend any higher

Can you already tell we love this place? I have never spent more than $500/night for accommodations, but someone on a forum said,”if you have the money to spend, this is worth every penny” and he was right. As soon as you arrive, your car is parked by a valet, you are ushered to a couch with a glass of Moët and they say, “ You wait here and we will come to you.” I was mush! The pools are mysterious, soothing and sort of decadent in a natural way! No phones allowed. There are fountains of Glacier water spread around to stay hydrated. There are 3 restaurants to choose from… plus a high tea in the main lounge which is well done. We hit the Blue Lagoon when it opened at 9, so there were only a dozen people. Everything is on site. It’s just a real chill, hip, gorgeous, quiet (never heard anything between the walls) environment. The entire staff is professional, fun, and welcoming. A memorable 2 night stay.

This is an elegant and beautiful facility and the service is top shelf. However is it really worth the extravagant price? You do have private access to the lagoon, which is isolated from the pubic access, but the lagoon itself is somewhat underwhelming. If not for it being touted as "the thing to do when in Iceland" I doubt it would rate the tariff. The suite we had was very luxurious but it was quirky in that it did not have any reading lights by the bed and did not offer TV service. Splendid isolation? They offer complimentary drinks with the suite price but c'mon, the wines are some of the cheapest they could offer, retailing for about $5-7 elsewhere. ASt these prices they could step it up a bot. They have many amenities including a complimentary mud treatment with the suite, and a very nice exercise facility.. the restaurant is pricey and the wine list the usual outrageously priced offering. Breakfast, which is included is elegant and offers many nice options. Service is some of the best we experienced. Worth a visit? If you have extra money, yes. Otherwise there are plenty of other place sto spend the money.

Other worldly holiday! The Retreat was just wonderful and beautiful setting. It seems like you are transported to another world. I only have a few comments if they actually take the time to read these. First - I was recommended to have dinner at Lava - If you are having a high end experience you don’t want to eat there. It was like a giant cafeteria and the food and service were both terrible. My nice waiter when they forgot my drink order and served me the wrong dinner 40 minutes later told me they no one wants to work there since it is minimum wage. I felt terrible for him. There were 7 waiters when there are supposed to be 20 and he told me they just can’t do it. They told me that they were going to credit me the dinner (which they did not) but that wasn’t the point. It was a terrible experience. Now with all of the money being poured into the retreat I would advise you to separate off Lava from the Retreat and extend dinner hours at the spa restaurant which had excellent food as did Moss. The other problem is that you sell “day spa” passes for five hours which were like the cruise ship people coming over and taking over the hotel. We could not enjoy it as it was overcrowded and again diluted the experience. I give it five stars but there are real problems that should be sorted out when you charge so much money to stay there. Breakfast was lovely and afternoon tea perfect. You need to find a way to maintain the integrity of your hotel before people give bad reviews and don’t come back. The last issue is that you say no photographs and yet you sell waterproof camera Cases for the day spa people who are all taking photos and I only wanted to take one photo of my family and was stopped and made to feel like a criminal. Only after checking out did I find out that one of the staff would do it for you while you were in the lagoon. Instead of yelling at me as if I were a child, might the staff be better trained and let me know that.

A place unlike any other. We had the lagoon suite which has its own totally private lagoon set among an other worldly landscape, it was an amazing experience. The spa and the main lagoon in the retreat were a little too busy for our taste, with too many day visitors. The cafe at the spa served wonderful food, including king crab. The breakfast in the main lobby/lounge was excellent and the afternoon tea also very good. We had dinner in the lava restaurant which was somewhat disappointing. The food was good, we had Ling fish and cod both very nice, but it lacked any atmosphere or ambiance It was like a very busy canteen with lots of people coming in from the public lagoon (there’s direct access) in tracksuits with backpacks, lots of children, and groups. So busy, noisy and slow service. Not at all what we expected. Staff in the hotel are wonderful and really helpful. I would love to return in winter but the weather can be pretty brutal and I imagine the flight from the Uk would be pretty bumpy. An very expensive 2 night break but worth it.
