We used Hyatt points for our stay, and had such a nice time we extended our stay for an additional two nights. Shout out to Eleni who was so sweet, and gave us a great room upgrade. The breakfast was included and really great. Nice hotel pool, location was perfect for us (would recommend a car when visiting sissi). We could definitely see ourselves coming back again.

It must be a sign of how much we like this hotel as we stayed over twice as long as we initially booked. It is very difficult to describe just how comfortable it is and we would return there in the blink of the eye. The Receptionists, Alexandria and Eleni simply could not do enough to make our stay a pleasant one and the last named even called in on her day off to make sure everything was okay! That was typical of all the staff throughout the hotel and I can’t remember having ever experience that level of service anywhere else. Location – perfect. It is three minutes walk to the sea and the beautiful harbour which is full of excellent bars and restaurants. There is a supermarket next door and car hire, tour operators, chemist, Doctors are all within one minute walk. Rooms – very comfortable indeed. We tried two different ones as we extended our stay and both were excellent. One had a decent sized private pool and the other a nice balcony with chairs and table. Other than that they were identical. A very comfortable bed ensured we slept brilliantly every night we were there. There was very little noise from outside which also helped. There is a room safe, robes, television, bathroom with wonderful shower – everything you need was there. Food – we paid for the half-board but preferred to go into town and experience the local cuisine in the Tavernas there. The breakfast was excellent though. All the necessary safety measures were taken as was the case throughout the hotel at all times and we felt safe whilst dining. Some standard items were brought automatically but then you could choose any number of options you like from a interesting and diverse menu. Pool – simply wonderful! Not massive but big enough and the area was generally quite quiet with lots of sun lounges available. The parasols were quite difficult to put up but gave good shade. A nice touch was that we were given a welcome drink when we arrived and fresh fruit was brought around the pool quite frequently. Wi-Fi – free for unlimited devices and pretty good. The only place we struggled was out on the balcony as the routers are on the corridors. All in all, a fantastic day in which is one of the most relaxing and comfortable hotels we have been in for a long time.

How this hotel has 5 stars really baffles me. Let’s start with the positive The staff are really nice and helpful and it’s adult only... (I couldn’t think of another positive thing) Now to the disappointing aspects. Rooms We paid for a pool view room, in my option it’s not worth it. The light on the balcony stays on all night and as I’m a light sensitive sleeper this really bothered me, the curtains let the light in on the top and bottom. There is no net curtain (I sound like an old lady) so when I open the curtains everyone can see in so I need to have the curtains drawn so that I’m not giving the people at the pool a free peep show (no one needs to see my old lady body) The bed is soft which I didn’t like but that’s a personal preference, the pillows were good but I found I had better bedding at home, they used the same bedding as an Ibis hotel ( I was young once and had little money) There’s no little cotton buds or sewing kit in the bathroom, not that I really need them but it’s nice to have. No plastic or glass cup to put your toothbrush in, again it’s the little things that count. The towels were not plush, I love a good towel, I should of brought my own. They have a small no brand name tv, the picture quality was the same as my commodore 64 computer in the 80’s. My husband and I are older so we only stay in 5 star hotels and he found that our home was more luxurious and wanted to return after the first night. We both travel for work every week and stay in hotel 5 days out of 7 so we know what we’re talking about. The breakfast and dinner were not too our standard, I’m the type of person that will travel to the US just to eat a good burger so I know good food. I came to Greece to eat Greek food, the menu was more international aka bland. We took half pension but after the first night we ate all our meals outside. Again this is a personal preference, I love food and won’t waste a meal just because I paid for it, I’d rather go out and have enjoyable Greek cuisine. Pool I didn’t find it inviting and I love a good pool. Curtain sun loungers are on the grass and it rained one morning, I felt like was in the Everglades it was so muddy. Our legs and feet were so dirty which made the loungers look like someone had pooped all over them, again not very inviting. I would like to know who gave out these stars but they need to be fired and SLH should be ashamed of themselves. I’m happy we didn’t pay full price, we got a huge discount, I guess because of COVID-19. All the other reviewers seem to be happy with the quality of this hotel and I’m happy someone is enjoying the place. This is just my personal opinion and opinion are like a**holes, everyone has one.

We are just back from a second stay at this excellent hotel - the fact we were keen to return speaks for itself. As photos suggest, it is a very calm, clean & relaxing environment. It is well placed in Sissi - near shops, tavernas & Boufos beach. Sissi itself is a small seaside village - there are many lovely places to eat & drink but if you're looking for wild nightlife this is not the resort for you! The complimentary private taxi transfer from the airport takes about 30 minutes & makes for a very relaxing start to a holiday. We have stayed in 2 types of room - a Superior room with pool view & a Junior Suite - both with lovely outlooks & extremely comfortable beds. The Suite is obviously a bit more spacious but if you are a night-waker, bear in mind the bathroom is down the stairs from the bed which is on the mezzanine! Both times we have eaten just breakfast in the hotel - the first time we stayed, buffet style with all the usual foods you would expect; this time a section of cold meats & cheeses, rolls & pastries bought to the table with cooked food & other items ordered from waiting staff. The pool & surrounding area is lovely. The grass can be a bit squelchy in places but it's nothing that a pair of flip-flops can't overcome! Although some sunbeds were reserved by the time we came down to breakfast (9am) we never had a problem bagging a spot - there are plenty of beds to go round. Pool towels are provided by the hotel & the complimentary plate of fruit each day was vey welcome. Many reviews of this hotel mention the staff - mine will be no different. They are excellent - very friendly, polite & they all do their utmost to ensure you have a great holiday. We booked direct with the hotel & I would like to give a special mention to Renata from reservations. She was incredibly helpful & patient when we had to delay then cancel our booking last year due to a family emergency & then this year she had to deal with postponing our July booking. Renata, thank you, we made it in the end! Due to COVID there were a few changes for this stay but the management & staff have worked hard to minimise the impact on guests whilst trying to ensure safety. The hotel was fairly full when we arrived but there was plenty of space to accommodate distancing. All customer facing staff were wearing face coverings & hand sanitiser was readily available. For this stay we had to book a time for breakfast (as did those who stayed for dinner) so the flow of guests could be managed in the restaurant (you might want to think about booking an earlier time for breakfast on a Sunday.....I'll just say church bells & leave it at that!). Thank you to everybody at the Castello Boutique Resort & Spa - we had a fabulous holiday & hope to see you again

We booked a junior suite with pool, half board directly with the hotel and received a complimentary private transfer from Heraklion Airport to resort. We just knew we were going to have a lovely time right from meeting our driver Mikalis who also kindly ferried us to and from Potamos Beach (also complimentary) twice during our stay. The junior suite rooms are very large and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Room pool was amazing and we had sun on the pool and patio all day up until around 6pm. Hotel provide inflatables so you can sunbathe on the water which was great fun. The hotel and staff are 100% doing everything possible to stay covid safe. The lovely reception ladies Eleni, Alexandra, Christina and the operations Manager Maura are a credit to the hotel and explain everything you need to know on arrival. You can choose to have cleaners in daily as usual or simply request these services as and when you need, it is entirely up to the guests. Cleaners are great and so very friendly and warm as are all the staff at this hotel. The food.....WOW! A previous reviewer said they needed two seats each on the plane home, I couldn't agree more and need to go on a crash diet now we are home! Menus are imaginative, unique and presentation first class. Do not come here if you prefer ham,egg and chips type food as you won't get it. What you do get is high end restaurant food, really flavourful with a greek twist using locally sourced ingredients and plenty of it (food pics attached). Service is second to none. A big shout out to the kitchen and waiting staff, you are all extremely good at what you do. I need to mention the breakfasts.....best omelettes I have ever had, hot food cooked to order, fruit, pastries, whatever you want all served to your table. ok,you might get 2 sausages instead of 1, or everything doesn't necessarily arrive all at once but who cares....does it impact on your holiday...not at all. They have had to translate a buffet breakfast to full service due to the greek covid regulations and they have done this incredibly well. So onto the resort....it's small fishing harbour is beautiful, be sure to watch the sun down from Cactus bar (we loved this place). English bar Jolly Roger's just over the road from hotel warm and friendly with live music. Sissi is charming, the locals are lovely and we will definitely be back. If you are looking for a quiet, friendly, romantic, pretty holiday destination in a wonderful hotel...you need to book it! Thank you Castello staff and the locals in Sissi, we look forward to coming back soon!
