BEWARE!!! This hostel is not really a "hostel" but a flop house and drug hang for sketchy locals. I'm not sure where some of these "positive" reviews from earlier are coming from but just look to some of the other reviews from this past summer to get the general gist of the situation: - Filthy rooms and even filthier common areas that haven't been cleaned in a long time - Bathrooms are almost all out of order - Weird party going on in the front lawn with lots of recreational drug use - No step ladders to access top bunks - Crazy manager who freaks out if you point out any of the above problems or ask for a refund - And let us also point out the ridiculous "no shoe" policy when the floor is covered with dirt and filth - no way I was going to EVER take my shoes off in that place. We had two nights booked but bailed after one night and still didn't get a refund. If you are looking for a hostel in Anchorage try the Bent Prop or Anchorage Base Camp, but DO NOT go here.

My grandson and me stayed here as a hub from July 30 to August 14 while traveling in Alaska. The owner setup a private room with twin beds and it was clean as well as the bathroom next to the room. I like the convenience of the location near the airport and having a place to stay at a reasonable cost. I have stayed here three times in the last 5 years. All the staff was very friendly.

We are two students on a budget, so usually, we're not scared of average and cheap places. But I have never seen anything like this hostel before. - smell of trash at the entrance and in the room - a lot dirtier than the photos - people sleeping in common areas - bathroom nowhere near being clean, broken sink - a big hole in the kitchen with water leaking from it - people coming in and out the room with a lot of noise around 12 am - people smoking pot at night and in the morning - the garden is extremely dirty and smelly - service is terrible, the owner is aggressive (called us thieves and manipulators for simply asking about the possibility to adapt the booking) - the owner does not answer to emails and not often on the phone (even during the day) So overall, I do not recommend this place at all! There are other hostels better located for the same price that are so much better. We found an awesome place to stay for only $4 extra dollars per night.

If you plan to stay here longer than a day or two look somewhere else. when coming into the entrance it smells of hot trash, inside has a bad smell including the rooms. There’s a hole in the kitchen ceiling that leaks water into a bowl on the table. There are a bunch of questionable people who are not clean and messy. Lots of yelling till about 10pm. Constantly hearing people’s smokers cough all day/ night long. Outside of the house is not maintained well at all. Inside the dorms are okay besides it smelling dirty. Bathroom was alright and so was the common area. A fight broke out over a drug issue. Not a good neighborhood, there are cameras inside and outside the house which is nice along with lockers. The staff I did talk to were nice. It would be an ok place to stay for a night before or after the airport or to just take a shower. Most of the people who stay here hangout back and smoke. Honestly think there is too many people for the workers to handle. A little TLC to the house would make things better along with keeping sketchy people out of the house.
