This was an inexpensive place to crash after a long flight from New England. It was clean (enough) and convenient (enough) from the airport, with a shuttle that appeared about 15 minutes after we called. Service was friendly and accommodating from the shuttle driver to the breakfast hostess. Shower was fine. Short Uber ride to the train station next morning.
We checked in to the Puffin Inn on May 14. We had requested to stay in the "annex" which is about 1/2 block away from the main facility because we had stayed there in the past (5 years ago) and found it adequate, but this time we encountered many problems. They were in the middle of much-needed remodeling, but still rented out the rooms unfinished. Room number 1 was tiny, stuffy, and uncomfortable. We had to cart our luggage through a front door swarming with flying insects and in view of the residents of the halfway house next-door. The next room we were given was a newly remodeled one on the 3rd floor (no elevator) with new carpeting but a shower that had a curtain that was too short and too narrow, so the floor quickly flooded, and the water barely got hot. Room #3 was another old room, and after unpacking we found out it had NO hot water at all (We should have checked first!) so they had 1 room left that was considered a "downgrade" but they let us move there. It it was upstairs, a block further away. We had made reservations long in advance and by the time we were in Anchorage tourist season had started, so we were more or less at their mercy. The staff was helpful and courteous...not their fault....but whoever owns that place ought to be ashamed. We will never go back.…
This hotel is perfectly fine for anyone passing through or coming in late from the airport. The two people I encountered at the front desk were very friendly. The rooms in the main building have plenty of space. A fridge and microwave are provided. The breakfast in the morning had lots of options, mostly carbs, but the make-your-own waffles were great. By 2 biggest complaints are that the Wi-Fi did not work and the image quality on the television was really poor. Again, if just need a place for the 1 night, this is one of the lower cost options in town. If you are spending a few nights in Anchorage, perhaps you can spend a little more and get a place with more reliable Wi-Fi and TV.
Was a nice cozy place with the basic amenities like microwave and coffee maker. We arrived late at night and they provided air port shuttle to and from the inn so it was super convenient. Room and toilet were quite clean, front desk was quite friendly and welcoming.
A call made to the front desk was met with the phone being slammed down on me 12 times asking for a supervisor. A complaint will be filed in small claims court regarding this. Chandler Corporation 100% owner of the Puffin Inn will have to respond to this in small claims court for discrimination against the disabled. Registered Agent Jay McElroy will aslo be responding to the Investigation reported to the State of Alaska due to their unwillingness to even speak over the phone about the issue of withholding the room deposit for not smoking in the room. Absolutely every inch of the hotel compound is covered under surveillance and why would someone who smoked just go ahead and smoke inside when they went outside for every time they smoked? No one did a walk through with Andrew when he went to check out. e to respond to this in small claims court for discrimination against the disabled. Staff assuming smoking was done in the room due to having smoked outside is not enough reason to withhold the room deposit. This HOTEL is in one of the worst sides of town and they are taking advantage of the people who live in the area that might attempt to use the hotel for shelter overnight. I give them NO STARS FOR SERVICE and will have to follow up through the court system with asking for damages related to keeping the room deposit. THIS REVIEW WAS DICTATED BY PERSON IN REGARD TO WHO STAYED IN THE HOTEL OVERNIGHT.…
What a horrible person to talk with on the day shift on 10/20/21. Rude. Ugly and mean. I've never encountered a business who hires a woman this unprofessional in any business. My advice would be never to book a room at this hotel that employees such awful people. I asked to speak with her manager and she said that I couldn't. Most hotels I've spoken to over the years always had a day manager at work but for some reason this hotel doesn't or this woman is lying and saying that they don't have a manager. Don't ever stay there unless you like this kind of behavior from a place of business.
Stay away! The room and property were horrible! The room was damp and had a musty smell. The restroom was dirty with urine on the seat. The shower smelled like raw sewage. The bed sheets were not changed, as we could see the body imprints from the previous guests. We ended up checking out and sleeping at the airport due to the terrible conditions. I asked for a refund, but the front desk said no, that the room wasn't that dirty and nobody else has ever complained. I even tried talking to the owner and later tried calling the owner, but the front desk was screening my requests and never had the opportunity to speak with the owner. I spent $190 for a room that wouldn't pass in a brothel. The only bright spot was the shuttle driver, he was fantastic!
We stayed here on 8/11/2021. We arrived late and went straight to bed. Has alot of trouble breathing thru the night and in the morning when we got up e found MOLD and dirty sheets. We brought our compaint to the manager that assured us they would be refunding our cc. When we arrived home and looked at the statement online, there was no refund and a call to the same manger stated too bad. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
Initially booked one of the cheaper "annex" rooms which turned out to be an entirely separate building not pictured in website. It was very worn and stuffy. No elevator. We went to front desk and they put us in a "deluxe' room for an extra $30. It was fine. Rather similar to a Comfort Inn. The beds were comfortable. The lobby is pretty special with numerous taxidermy specimens. May be creepy to some...
We cancelled and they did not enter as a cancel and still charged our card. After calling for a week and not being able to speak to a manager about our refund, we finally reached one. She stated she will not refund us because we did not write down the name of the employee who dealt with our cancellation over the phone. She was extremely rude throughout the entire phone call. ZERO customer service.
