We have stayed here twice for the Iditarod. It is less expensive than most hotels in the area and only a two block walk to the Iditarod Ceremonial Start and two and a half blocks to Salmonberry Tours if you take their Iditarod restart tour, and five blocks to the mushers banquet. With free parking, it is easy to get to other Anchorage locations including the local Carrs store (buying your own food that you can cook in your suites also helps the budget). Furrondy occurs during the Iditarod, and you are across the street from the Carnival. The train station is just down the hill. The noise from either did not bother us at all. Rooms were clean and the suites spacious with a separate bedroom so I could let my wife sleep if I was up. This is the second time we have stayed here and plan to do it again the next time we come for the Iditarod. Just book early because it fills up quickly for that time period.…
While the suite I was in was very comfortable, I completely forgot about the train tracks right behind the hotel. The People Mover is a great way to get throughout Anchorage for only $5 for unlimited rides a day. Since I was in a suite, I did benefit from a microwave, fridge and dishes I could use. I would highly recommend staying here if you will be there for an extended period of time and want to cook in your room.
I could have given this place a 5 out of 5 because of its location, kitchen and size. I only gave it a 4 because there's no AC and one of the windows didn't open. It was rather warm when we checked in it 4 pm. It is an old hotel but our room felt like an apartment. We are old folks who like to walk. We spent one afternoon walking downtown Anchorage.
The hotel parking lot is a paid lot (and guests are supposed to be able to park for free, according to the hotel manager). I got cited and received a parking ticket, and the hotel mgr said they have voided the ticket and wrote to me to confirm. Several months later I received a bill from my car rental agency informing me that I received a parking citation. Apparently, the hotel mgr did not void the parking ticket with the parking agency. I called the hotel and basically was told it's my problem now. So I have to call the parking agency who cited me and the car rental agency. There's NO FREE parking at this hotel.
This hotel is great for using the train station, it's a 5 minute walk. The guy working at the front desk is less than friendly, but perhaps he was having a bad day. The rooms are very large and the bed was great. They do not offer breakfast or an airport shuttle. So, we may look elsewhere when we go back to Anchorage.
We thought this was a perfectly nice hotel. The furnishings are a bit dated but it’s a perfectly adequate spot. It’s got a good location. We took a train at one point so it was incredibly convenient for that and I wasn’t bothered by the noise. We had a suite and it had a fridge and other conveniences which was also handy
Not the best, not the worst. Convenient location to the train depot. You have to go down a small flight of stairs to get to the elevator and rooms. If you have a lot of luggage this is NOT convenient. Rooms are spacious but not up to date. We had one strange blue washcloth that had seen one too many days. It felt a little like walking into my grandma’s house in the 1980’s. The weirdest thing to me was the bed had three half size pillows ….. like they took a full size pillow and cut it in half. If they put a little bit of money into sprucing the place up I think they could do well. Fresh paint, full pillows, matching towels in the bathroom. I would maybe stay again if it was just for a night because of the close proximity to train.
We were very disappointed with our stay. First - please tell people that the train station is right behind and trains will blow whistles VERY early and VERY late and they are VERY loud. The customer service is TERRIBLE. We asked for our room to be cleaned - left at 7 am - came back at 3:30 pm and it was still not done. So one day our room wasn't even cleaned. Also, no ice at this place. No elevator - so you have to lug your suitcases up and down stairs with no offer of help from the staff. It also does not appear to have any accommodations for handicapped people. The location was good except for the loud train, but I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone else.
Had a very bad experience while checking in May 27, 2021. A man who did not identify himself while I was in office checking in was very strange acting I thought he was a nosey guest. He became belligerent when I asked him "who are you and why are you being so rude?" Well he then tells me he is the manager/ owner and when asked for his name he refused to give it to me, I asked the girl behind desk and she just gave me a blank stare...I could go on and on but I won't. My husband and I checked in and out in a matter of 45 minutes.
