Family spent 12 days in Alaska. We wanted to stay in Anchorage to minimize our morning drive to the airport. As long time Marriott rewards member, we always use Marriott properties. When we called to confirm our stay on the way to the hotel, the operator asked if we wanted to speak to the hotel or to Medicaid. We did not understand the purpose of the question. When we arrived, we discovered multiple large signs within the facility regarding Medicaid. These were for the benefit of the population of patients staying at the facility from the nearby university hospital. Marriott or hotel management is leasing rooms to Medicaid recipients, perhaps to supplement room utilization during Covid crisis. Many of the people walking the hotel grounds and within the hotel should have been in a hospital environment or long term care facility. The hotel did not have the feel or appearance we have to come to expect from Marriott. I did not feel comfortable having my family move around the hotel freely. Security is obviously an issue at the hotel. Entry into the front door requires a call to the front desk. This extra step is likely due to the mixed-use nature of the facility. Marriott owes it to customers, including reward members, to prominently post on their hotel website when a facility is used for things other than normal hotel operations.

I appreciate you taking the time to offer your feedback from your recent stay with us. Many of our guests travel from remote areas of Alaska in order to attend doctor visits in Anchorage. Due to our proximity to the hospital, many of them choose to stay with us, and we welcome them as we would any other guest of our hotel. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify some of the issues you mentioned. The large signs that you encountered in our lobby area refer to our heightened cleanliness protocols and safety rules due to COVID-19. Also, due to COVID-19 our front doors are locked and accessible to all guests via use of their room key. This is to ensure that only guests are entering our facility to encourage social distancing. Our facility is not a “mixed” use facility. All of the issues you refer to are a direct result of COVID-19, and these extra precautions have been in place since the beginning of this pandemic. I understand that as a result, the experience of traveling and staying in a hotel may feel different than it has in the past. We will certainly take your feedback into consideration, while of course maintaining and prioritizing the safety of our guests and associates.

As the ad boasts breakfast, it’s in a bag and no gluten or diabetic friendly. It states “free shuttle,” wrong. If you have family or friends in the area, they cannot visit your room and they’ve removed all furniture inside and out. We understand COVID precautions but you should disclose them in the ad and when calling. Highly disappointed with the lack of communication here. It’s so remote you cannot just walk to get food and such. I would consider it safe and somewhat clean.

We have taken your feedback into consideration and will try to make things more clear moving forward as it pertains to communicating these changes prior to check-in.

Stayed here for one night and was very happy. The room was clean and spacious. It was equipped with a sofa, desk area, fridge, microwave, coffee maker (website says silverware is included but my room didn’t have any) stand up shower and separate toilet/sink area. The bed was actually comfortable (this is a rarity!) and the pillows are awesome. The tv is visible from both the seating area and bedroom area. There’s a closet with plenty of space and drawers, ironing board and iron. The alarm clock is equipped with USB ports for charging. The hotel normally serves a buffet style breakfast but due to covid, they’ve modified their breakfast to be a brown bag breakfast. The location is good but not really in walking distance to many things so a car is recommended. Check in was easy and the front desk staff Alejandro was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

I am a Marriott gold elite and live in ANC, and this hotel is where I put up my friends and family to stay. It is economical by ANC standards. It is an easy walk to 2 hospitals and 2 universities. There is a large lake right behind the hotel that has a loop trail around it. Seeing beavers and moose is not an unusual occurrence. There are several fast food joints within an easy 5 min drive or nice walk. The hotel is well maintained, and well run. There is a nice, large fire ring outside that is used in the summer and winter for cool social media pics. It is about a 15 minute drive from the airport and 10 minutes from downtown.

This hotel was well maintained and in better than average condition. The room was quiet and well kept during our stay. The included breakfast was extensive with options for every dietary requirement. Every one of the employees we came in contact with was pleasant, helpful and made the whole experience most enjoyable. Everyone made us feel more like friends than just guests.
