Detailed Reviews
The hotel itself offers history, quaintness, and a little fun spookiness. We enjoyed the free breakfasts, ghost stories, and location with easy access to downtown shops and restaurants, the train station (in walking distance), and Ships Creek. We booked the suites because we have a family of 5 and a family of four (which we stated on the booking), but when we arrived the Deluxe Junior Suite that was supposed to sleep 5 only had two beds and the King/Queen Suite that was supposed to sleep 4 only had one large bed. I had called ahead to verify that there was a sleeper sofa in both rooms (because the bed count didn't make sense for the number of people they were saying it would sleep) and was told that they had them, but they did not. Because we checked in early in the day, the hotel was able to provide us with 3 roll away beds, but that wasn't what we were expecting and they likely wouldn't have had them if we hadn't checked in so early. Just be aware of that. Other than that, it was a great stay.

This was my 3rd time staying at the hotel and I am still impressed. The quality service, warm welcome, and the spacious rooms are the best I have had in Anchorage. The staff are so friendly and always have excellent recommendations. This is the best location in town for walkers and those who seek a quiet getaway too. The historical references, polished brass, and comfortable beds all add to the experience of staying at this spacious hotel. The suites are worth every penny and all come with a wet-bar for longer stays. I can't get enough of this place! Highly recommend!!!

From the moment we walked in until we checked out, all six of us were so impressed. We got into town very early and stopped by the hotel for a lunch recommendation. They immediately told us to unload our bags and even though our rooms were not ready, she said she would get our luggage into our room as soon as they were ready. Her lunch recommendation was great and sure enough when we returned our bags were in the room. The beds were super comfortable and the hotel was beautiful. Breakfast in the morning was great as well.

Yes it is very nice inside and has updated bathrooms, (if the owner reads this please no more plastic shower curtains, and soup and shampoo bottles we have enough garbage) the staff was very nice and helpful, especially because we had a problem with our window closing . There is a park outside of the hotel and bars which close at 2 am so you will here some noise. Use the white noise machine! Breakfast is include and is in a historic bar area, very nice. The location is great, right in the heart of Anchorage.

This is a great hotel. Terri and her staff were outstanding in their kindness and willingness to be helpful. My traveling companion was injured during out trip & on crutches. Terri put us in a suite with a handicap bathroom and stored the wheelchair (borrowed from Access Alaska) in the lobby so it was available for us to use during the day. Our room was bright, had a great view, was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great - warm food, real juice, and coffee/tea available at all hours. Hotel is very convenient in downtown Anchorage and staff very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Price of rooms quite reasonable. Highly recommend.

Good hotel in an excellent location. Comfortable bed, pillows and room. There was lots of space but the bathroom is small. For the money I would expect a modern bathroom. Breakfast had plenty of items but missing fresh fruits. Space in the breakfast area is limited during peak time. Coffee was OK. It is a very quiet hotel. All the people here are friendly and professional.

This hotel is located in the centre. That is good but it stops there. It was expensive, it had literally no staff (our room was not cleaned between our two nights), no help with luggage though that was the most minor of things. The bar isn’t open and the breakfast served in the bar area was so poor it is hard to give it justice as a hotel breakfast. The rooms are of 1970 standard and our sheet was so washed out that I almost went down to ask for another one. It doesn’t feel clean and it is utterly overpriced. I am truly disappointed but maybe Anchorage doesn’t do better.

Until recently AC was probably not a requirement for an Anchorage hotel but it is now. Our room was very hot. We had to sleep with the windows open and it was very noisy so hard to sleep. People facing the park had it even worse. Homeless people gather there and they were shouting and cursing all night. The breakfast is ok - what you would expect at a chain hotel. I expected more from a small "historic hotel". The rooms are small but comfortable and the location is great - walking distance to everything in the center of town.

If you want to experience modern amenities while being engulfed in Anchorage history and travel back in time then you must experience the Historic Anchorage Hotel. We stayed there as locals attending their Halloween Murder Mystery Party. The event was so much fun. What made the stay truly special was the staff and their commitment to make sure we had everything we needed in our rooms and also just their professional but fun demeanor. The rooms are iconic and just make you feel like you’re a part of local history. I understand that some people want modern designs and new builds but you are missing out.

We stayed just one night, because we needed to catch the bus to Denali the next day. The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast and location - hot egg sandwiches and sausage were excellent, and its a 5 minute walk to Egan Center where most of the buses to Denali begin. Room was quaint with old style furnishings, look outside the room was not pretty with the tops of other buildings visible, however the room is spacious, and clean. There is a sitting area with couches as well as a mini-bar type space. Water ran a little slow in the toilets and had to flush a couple of times. Overall, a good place right in the heart of downtown Anchorage.

Taxi, Uber or Lyft is the best way to the hotel. Taxi stand is right outside of baggage claim area. The fare is approximately $20.00 - $23.00 one way.
Hello Sherri D.
Yes, we will be happy to store your luggage.
They do not have washers and dryers, but do have a dry cleaning service that can provide same day wash service. Googled laundromats near the hotel and there is one about 0.09 mile from hotel. (K Speed Wash). Hope this helps
Hello 11Tracy. Terri here from the Historic Anchorage Hotel. Have you seen our bar area? The bar is our main venue for parties. We just had our own two Halloween parties last month. We use outside licensed caterers. We will be happy to give you a site inspection and a list of our preferred caterers.
We look forward to hosting your next holiday party!
