This B&B met or exceeded every expectation for excellence. The setting is quiet, comfortable and inviting. The room I rented, the Harper Room, was spacious in every way with good light and windows. From the wonderful bathroom with claw footed tub and shower with great velocity to the spacious sitting room, to one of the most comfortable queen sized beds I have slept in away from home. The bedding as well as the bed made for a beautiful nights sleep. The breakfast was high quality and very tasty! The B&B takes every precaution you would hope for in terms of Covid - i felt very safe. The response to unexpected service needs was so timely and helpful. I will be back and I highly recommend the Gatewood!

It is mandatory that you drive up the alley to enter this establishment and when you leave, you have to back all the way out onto the roadway from an uphill gravel road unless you're the only guest in which a three point turn you can turn around and drive out facing the front. Be advised that the Frost room has an elevated bathroom requiring you to step in to enter it and there is no railing. Going up and down the stairs from the rooms to the kitchen you take the stairs and there is one railing on the side, not the other. For those with mobility concerns, you would need to decide if this is the right place for you. The breakfast is nice, the yogurt and fresh fruit and granola are a nice way to start your breakfast and then she comes in with a heated croissant and eggs any way you like them accompanied by two slices of bacon. The house is rustic, historic stone fireplace, comfy couches and tea and coffee options nearby. The innkeeper was pleasant and very accommodating, she let us move to another room where the bathroom was level with the bedroom which really helped a lot. This bed and breakfast is quiet and can be a nice get-away, but I want to advise guests about the steps and elevated bathrooms not level with the bedroom itself. There is a light that lights up when you walk by the staircase outside, but not the room downstairs.

This was our first trip to Seattle from Australia. From seeing previous reviews we decided to book our stay at the Gateway B & B. We were not disappointed. The room we had was excellent and was well appointed. The decor matched this elegant home and we fitting in straight away. Mary greeted us and during our the stay we also met Jeannie, both were a delight and would do anything to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast was a delight and plenty of variation to choose from and healthy too On one occasion my wife Sharon needed some items from a local store and Genie gave us directions. She told us it was a fair walk and we could borrow her car if needed. We elected to walk. On our return Jeannie was at the store waiting to drive us home. There customer service is excellent I cannot recommend this accommodation high enough. 10 Stars would suit

I’ve been staying in Seattle B&Bs since the mid-1980s, watching one after another close for retirement or other reasons. My most recent host suggested The Gatewood, and I’m glad she did. This beautiful Craftsman home in West Seattle is a welcome base for visitors. As I arrived, a woman was heading out of the driveway and introduced herself as Margaret, the owner. She apologized for a minor mishap with her house painters that day, said she was going to buy wine, and invited me for a glass in the living room that evening. I wonder what she’d heard about me. :) Margaret’s equally friendly daughter, Mary, checked me in and showed me the lovely home. My room, the Clark, was most comfortable and provided all necessary amenities. The living room is warm and historic featuring memorabilia from each of the families who owned the home. Each of the five guest rooms is named for one of those families. Hot beverages and home-baked cookies are available at all times. There is a shared refrigerator for guest use. Breakfast includes a buffet of fruit, yogurt, granola, bread and juice with the option of adding a hot entree. Guests are informed of the entree and asked to sign up on the evening prior. I took Margaret up on her offer to join her for wine and conversation on the evening I arrived. The next morning, I met Jenny, the innkeeper, who prepared a delicious breakfast. On the morning of my departure, I needed to take a conference call so Mary kindly accommodated my timing with a later breakfast and asked the painters to be quiet at the time. I felt very welcome at The Gatewood and look forward to returning!

Staff was wonderful and helpful with recommendations. The house is vintage and was very comfortable. Breakfast was always delicious. Better than staying downtown. Recommend this BnB to anyone staying in Seattle.
