We have been staying at Shaffer Baille Inn for over ten years now. No matter how long between visits we are always welcomed by Ana Lena and Brenda as if we are family! And the quality of what is offered at this beautiful Inn never changes. From the delicious breakfasts to comfy beds and spotless rooms it is an outstanding place to stay while you are in Seattle!

This place actually found us - we were visiting family in the area and they had seen it on walks in the neighborhood. Both the neighborhood and the home are spectacular; comfortable in the genteel, quiet manner of 100+ years ago (or what we imagine that would be). Would be fascinating to know how the original residents of the home lived. They did us a favor by building it, and the subsequent owners and restorers added to it by rebuilding so carefully. Our room was on the top floor with a great view of the street and of downtown Seattle. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom floor heated (important in February!!) and the shower roomy and hot. All the rooms are decorated for the period and done beautifully. The sun room is a work of art! Wish we could sit there forever. Breakfast included our favorite items and there were also 24-hour sweets and every kind of hot drinks and chilled bottled water. Just lovely. And Ana, the owner, is friendly and delightful. We will be back!

This lovely, historic mansion on Capitol Hill (near Broadway and 15th restaurants) is a few blocks from Volunteer Park. It reflects period elegance of another time while offering a quiet retreat and easy access to downtown Seattle. We are fortunate to stay a couple times annually when in town for appointments.

Some reviews mention the lack of an on-site parking area, but honestly we've never failed to snag nearby street parking in this safe neighborhood. And, when downtown Seattle hotels currently have $50 nightly parking, it is a bonus to instead splurge on a local resturant meal or NW bottle of wine rather than a garage space!

The sunroom is our favorite morning spot after a tasty breakfast of fruit, croissants, cheese, salmon, juice and coffee. The library is full of historical documentation on the Mansion, and the cozy leather furniture invites one to curl up in the evening and read. The living room fireplace offers a fiery glow on rainy evenings where the period red-velvet furniture is especially lovely in the holiday season when the Christmas tree sparkles with lights.

Brenda, Ana Lena and Mark you welcome us each visit with warmth. We feel as though this is our Seattle home; building memories over the years. Thanks! Until our next stay.

I stayed two nights in the Ellison Bay Suite. The mansion is beautiful outside and inside. The stained glass in the front doors and the carved wooden pillars in the entry are gorgeous. There is beautiful woodwork throughout the house. Breakfast was delicious and I enjoyed eating in the sunroom where I could look out at the blooming camellia tree. Coffee, tea, snacks and fruit are always available. The suite was spotless, sheets were the nicest I've ever seen: thick, soft, and slightly satiny. I was able to look at a number of other rooms before more guests arrived and they are all beautiful and different from each other.
Location is in my favorite part of Capital Hill on a quiet street with many beautiful old homes and close to Volunteer Park with its walking trails, plant conservatory and the excellent Asian Art Museum.
Linda, one of the owners was very gracious and welcoming.
I look forward to staying here again.

We stayed one night in this charming B&B while visiting family nearby. We chose it for its location and the fact that it had a Tesla destination charger -- just let them know you'll need it as they need to turn it on for you. We appreciated contactless check-in during COVID. We brought takeout dinner back to the room which was a little awkward as there was no dining furniture in the room and the downstairs dining area was being used for a private function. Breakfast the next day was yummy and plentiful.

We stay in bed & breakfasts fairly often when we travel and Shafer Baillie Mansion is the BEST one we have ever stayed in. The way they renovated this extraordinary mansion is magnificent. Each room is truly unique. The furnishings and fixtures are lovely but also seem selected with guests in mind with comfortable chairs, usable desks, dressers and end tables and good beds, exquisitely remodeled bathrooms with subway tile and modern fixtures and amenities. Some B&Bs with victorian furniture seem either stuffy or cheesy but if done right like Shafer Baillie, the atmosphere is perfect. There is a sun room and even a large brick patio to sit outside. Even with a full house, it was very quiet. The hosts and staff are friendly and personable. The breakfasts were delicious including delectable breads, a hot casserole and a lot of healthy options too. They will even pack you a boxed breakfast if you have to leave early or need to eat on the run. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe. We did not find it an issue to be on Captiol Hill and not downtown. We drove our rental car downtown and wherever else we needed to and found abundant street parking downtown and in front of the B&B. Many restaurants within walking distance too. Can't say enough good things about the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Thank you!

This is a stunning mansion in a quiet neighborhood and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. I stayed in the Capitol Hill room and was impressed with the way they retrofitted a shower into a house built in 1914. Breakfast was top notch. The strata, smoked salmon and fruit plate were my favorites.

We have stayed at the mansion a half dozen times. Not only is it the best B&B we’ve ever stayed at, I felt very safe during the pandemic because of all the precautions they have taken to protect their guests. The mansion is very large so it’s easy to safely distance.

One feels a Seattle resident at Shafer Baillie Mansion. And what a better feeling than that when one is visiting a city? You don't only enjoy a big and comfortable room (great bed by the way! Good for your back and rest) but also the sun room, the living room, the library...All of them great spaces with the tranquility and calmness you need to recharge energy and get inspired while you are a tourist in Seattle. No brain, best option in the city!! Believe me, you won't miss downtown. By the way is 10' away anyway...

I walked by Shafer-Baillie numerous times when staying in a now closed neighboring B&B. I found it grandiose and intimidating. When two other Seattle B&Bs also closed, I decided to book at Shafer-Baillie. Upon arrival, yes, I felt I was in Downton Abbey and should have brought my ball gown. The gracious staff including owner, Ana Lena, and manager, Brenda, put my cares to rest with their unpretentious manner and warm hospitality. Rooms are all unique (I have stayed in three different ones) but comfortable and spacious. Common areas are spectacular. During my first visit, I was treated to another guest playing the grand piano during breakfast. Breakfasts are varied and abundant with the hot entrées always delicious. It’s a pleasure to be a guest there!

Hello Maxi, All our rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. there are 5 steps to the main door from the street, there is street parking available most of the time in front of the mansion. All the best, Ana Lena

The innkeeper (Diana?-not sure) will have suggestions for you. The inn is in a residential area, and it was about a 15-20 minute walk (a very nice walk) to the area with restaurants, but maybe there is somewhere closer. But ask the innkeeper for suggestions, ever before you get there. She is very helpful.
