Really good location very close to all of the places we wanted to go. Staff are really friendly and very welcoming made us feel very at home. Rooms very clean and bathrooms/showers are perfect. More plugs/lamps in the rooms would have been handy but would definitely come back. Also saw this lovely o

Agree with a past reviewer questioning why City Hostel has such high ratings? Affordable pricing & downtown location (hippy/gay/touristy) are definitely advantages. Seattle lodging is expensive. However, the property condition is fair to poor at best. As others have pointed out there is a sweaty odor in the room (bedsheet as well). Not the cleanest property dusty blinds & window ledges. I had a private room with shared bath for 2 nights. The small in room sink had very low water pressure. The building is quite old & in need of thorough cleaning/updating. The shared bath was kept clean. No soap or shampoo in the shower & no ledge to place toiletries. No A/C; however, there are room fans as well as a large noisy commercial floor fan in the hall (right outside my room) running all night long at full blast in order to draw in the cooler night air. Noisy outdoor rooftop commercial A/C units on the property next door. There are homeless folks in the neighborhood, but they don't bother anyone. Convenient bus stops & LINK stations. This is the worst hostel I've stayed in. First time the TripAdvisor scoring failed me!

I stayed in a private room with the bath down the hall for five nights. This place is friendly (they remember your name), helpful (they carried my suitcase upstairs), very clean, quiet, very convenient to most Seattle attractions, and reasonable! Breakfast of toast, peanut butter, jelly, butter, fruits, and cereal is included. They put it out between 8 and 10. You can also cook if you want to. My room had a king size bed, bench, small sink, closet, hair dryer fan, and view of the Space Needle. I was able to walk to the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden, Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, ferry to Bainbridge Island, and ferry to Victoria, Link train to the airport. There are many restaurants and little stores nearby. I always felt safe. If you don’t mind the shared bathroom, this place is a fantastic place to stay in Seattle and a huge bargain.

spent 3 nights there, 1st time staying at hostels. I am middle aged traveling alone, but they made me feel comfortable, very friendly staff, place is old (no air conditioning, but they had a fan in the room). It has the necessities needed to just come and go. Very convenient to bus stops and everything is walking distance, downtown, pike market place, piers and eating locations. I would do it again.

So first for the pros: Friendly staff; convenient location (you can walk to Downtown and the Space Needle, and SO MANY buses stop nearby; OK breakfast (wish there were more than 2 cereals though because then you're limited to toast and 3 fruits); average size rooms; and lots of common space (the downstairs was spacious and comfy). Now for the cons: You will pass groups of homeless walking from hostel to/from downtown (I am not comfortable around groups of men loitering, even in the daylight, since I am a female walking alone), no outlets for top bunks (I had to buy a longer cord while in Seattle and pay the insane sales tax), you felt the floor move from your bunk when people walked normally, and the beds made lots of noise and yours moved even when someone in a bunk next to you did. I'd probably stay again though because of the proximity to public transit and many attractions.
