I live abroad, and have traveled fairly extensively over the last five or so decades, so I do have experience with which to compare my stay at Belltown Inn. I can't recall any stay in a hotel or motel that I would call "wonderful", but I certainly can use that word to characterize my week here! First, the staff: Warm, professional, helpful, friendly, patient ... are only some of the words describing the front desk and office staff. Each one was extremely helpful, and always smiling; they made everything they did seem effortless, although I doubt that that was always the case. Second, everything is spotless, no easy feat in rainy, muddy weather in an old facility. The staff is similarly friendly, helpful and professional. The room and amenities: I was delighted to discover that the lights were bright! Dim lights seem to be the standard, in even the most expensive hotels. I had recently stayed at a five-star hotel, one of an international chain, and the lighting couldn't compare to the room here. If one doesn't want bright light, the well-placed lamps could be used. They were easy to switch on and off, I didn't have to search for hidden or inconveniently placed switches, or go through a two-step process to switch a lamp on, as I did in that 5-star hotel I mentioned. I also appreciated the electrical outlets: although not numerous, they are very well-placed, and more than sufficient. The bed was comfortable, well-made, clean and inviting -- again, kudos to the house-keeping staff. The towels -- OMG! I can't recall getting such thick, beautiful towels in a hotel, except perhaps in 1971, when I stayed at a new 5-star hotel. Even the soap and shower amenities were better than I usually get. The room comes with a small kitchenette area, with a small refrigerator and freezer, microwave, coffee maker and cups, coffee, tea, and even snacks, and -- kitchen cabinets, counters, and a sink! If you needed plates, flatware, etc., you could ask at the front desk, and receive a cling-wrapped set. Better coffee was available every morning in the lobby. A grocery store on the next block provided what I needed for breakfasts and lunch sandwiches. I was amazed that there are two clean, well-functioning washing machines and dryers here for use by the guests. The front desk staff was extremely helpful in selling me quarters, and checking to ensure that the machines were working properly. Finally, the location: As many have noted, the location is terrific. I was able to walk to the space needle and Chihuly museum, the Pike Street Market and the Aquarium. Numerous small restaurants and eateries are within walking distance as well. To summarize, I really enjoyed my stay at the Belltown Inn, and recommend it to anyone who is visiting Seattle.…
