The times that you stumble across a holiday that really is just perfect for your whole family can be quite rare. For us this year we really hit the spot with Jarkko and Victoria’s special place on the edge of a beautiful lake where we literally didn’t see another soul.

We really wanted this part of our trip to be the part where we could totally relax and focus on being together, to not have to think about what we are doing or what we are eating or anything, just to be looked after for a few days and it was a bit of an unknown leap of faith we took as we had found the place completely by chance and didn’t really know what to expect.

From the minute we arrived we were warmly welcomed, fed delicious hearty home cooked meals including home made salmon pizza, finish meat pies cooked on the fire, perfectly cooked chicken and salad from the garden. We did lots of gentle adventures that we agreed with Jarkko before we arrived and they were perfectly suited to our son indy who is 8 and autistic and we felt that Jarkko totally understood how to connect with him and what would work best and by the end of the trip they were firm friends. We kayaked and SUPed in the lake walked through the local forest picking wild berries on the way to a lovely little camp, swam in rivers, had an overnight stay in a bear hide, had saunas and hot tubs and fires right by the lake which we all swam in every day and indy learnt to fish for the first time. Jarkko even presented indy with his very own fishing rod at the end as a gift to go home with!

Victoria was lovely and warm too and the whole place gave us a happy glow. We highly recommend it and especially the all inclusive option because there was something just so nice about letting go and being taken care of so we could focus on each other and the world around us.

We stayed in the cottage which is a flexible space with a kitchen and lots if beds and pretty big for just us 3 but it worked perfectly for us and was clean and had everything we needed to have a comfy stay and seemed good value to have our own space which can be such a game changer when you have a neuro diverse family.

We then ate in the big main building - it is not a trendy, bare light bulb, stripped pine rustic chic kind of place, it’s a really well run, sparkling clean, humble and refreshingly traditional spot where you feel like you are drifting back in time. It was a real good un! Hence the long review.

This is a gem of a hotel, ideally located for exploring northern Karelia and Kainuu, and a lovely place in its own right, in a beautiful lakeside setting. Jorrka and Victoria run a very good operation and are superb hosts. The food is some of the best we had in Finland (and we are pescatarian) and the local recommendations by Jorrka were superb - especially the 20km hike in the protected forests with biologist and mammal specialist Laetitia. There’s a lovely sauna in a shepherd’s hut by the lake, and, at least in July, the lake is inviting afterwards. We will be back for spring birding, and there are so many other activities from here, eg kayaking and biking. Thank you for a perfect 2 nights.

This is a place, which seems difficult to get to, but, once you are there, you understand it is worth it. Precious nature and cozy accommodation will make long or short stay unforgettable.
I had a chance to spend there one weekend in April with a friend. The snow was still there, but it is unbelievable how many interesting things one can do there. The combination of forest trails and spacious lake surface are endless. Great amount of nature inhabitants and your hardly meet people there, and if you meet someone they are exceptionally friendly.
The Russian border is just some km away, and although you cannot actually enter the Russian territory you can get a feeling that you are almost there.
The home made food that the owners provide is just delicious!
I was wondering how it will be there during the summer. So I am planning on organizing a trip with my friends or family there for at least one week. Really looking forward to endless days and short nights in Northern Karelia!

I tried to ask for a quote for a boat tour advertised on the web page, but the service provider was busy with another client and asked me to call again.
I called again another time and asked for the quote, but the man said he would email it to me.
So I email him and explained what I was after, how many people etc.
No reply.
I called again and asked what's up - he said that he will call me "today or tomorrow" to let me know if the service is even available on the dates that I would be in Lieksa.
Now I've waited for a week from my initial contact and have not been told how much the service would cost, or if it is indeed available on the dates I provided.
Maybe they will contact me or maybe the won't - but I will have to book something else with another provider to make sure we have stuff to do on my holiday.

A short trip to the Eastern part of Finland by a car was a great idea last summer, specially after one unforgattable stay by the lake, close to Lieksa. We wanted to try small hotels, cottages,B&B etc instead of big hotels...
This Jongunjoen Matkailu"Beg & Breakfast" offered much more that we expected. Young couple that are running this familiar, very clean "Finnish Home"- accommodation made our stay so comfortable,we stayed longer than was originally planned. There's also kind of "cottage" with cooking facilities, suitable for a bigger group,(and also pets allowed)a part of the traditional rooms. Sauna and the BBQ-place by the lake was a big + !! Most surely we'll visit this place again!!

Location: wonderful!
Rooms: beautiful!
Courtesy: unbeatable!
Close your eyes and imagine: a beautiful cottage, great .. clean .. elegant .. with all amenities. A lake, blue and calm ... where water lilies bloom .. where you can swim ... fish .. go canoeing ... or simply sleep to rowing on the boat.
Imagine a lush green lawn with flowers and fruits to collect, between the cottage and the lake ..
Imagine a real traditional Finnish sauna, then plunge into the lake ... Imagine a hut where you can cook and eat on the shore of the lake. Or even a fireplace right on the beach .... Imagine, all around, paths for walking, and cycling, among woods and carpets of fresh blueberries! Imagine that you stay for hours without listening to a car engine!
Imagine walking in the woods at midnight, with no torch! In the incredible silence of the woods of Karelia.
Imagine a hearty breakfast with fresh fruit and homemade jam on the spot, with local fruits ...
Imagine people with incredible kindness ... They will provide everything: canoe, boat, bicycle, maps, sauna ..
Now open your eyes, you've come to Jongunjoki!
I've never seen a paradise like this ...
I'll be back!
I swear!

In august I was supposed to stay at Jongunjoen Matkailu for two to three days due to my work but I ended up staying there about ten nights mostly because of the excellent B&B accommondation.

I made relatively long days in woods and regardless of the time I arrived, there was always great dinner available with affordable prices. Place itself is in really nice and peaceful location at the lake shore. Sauna was always ready and service outstanding. Small problems from refueling the car to internet difficulties were always solved with ease. And did i mention the food!

This is the way you want to overnight when doing hiking, skiing or canoeing! Possibilities for all mentioned in the list were excellent in the area. Place is also located along the "Rukajärven tie", so there were lots of war memorabilia nearby. I will definately wisit the place for canoeing and cycling around the historic war zones in holiday purposes.

Excellent place, prices and service. Strong recommendation!

We stayed here for a weekend on easter of 2017 and I have nothing but good things to say about the place and its hosts. First of all, the hosts were extremely helpful and friendly and they made us feel like home immediately upon arriving. They let us know about all the possibilities of things to do around the area and kindly answered all our questions about hiking and the history of the place.
We ended up ice fishing (which was amazing), catching our own fish and cooking it and then going to the barrel sauna they had outside.
The breakfast was very good and we felt extremely relaxed after our stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for relaxation.

We ended up at this place after walking the Karhunpolku and Canoëing the Jogunjoki. (9 day's in total)
Beïng very hungry and tired, we started looking in Nurmijärvi for a restaurant and a sauna. We were so lucky to end up here! The host wasn't expecting us, because they only take bookings at forhand. But she welcomed us very friendly! We had the most beautiful view, the most cute sauna in the world! And she even made us a very tasty and nice diner! We were so greatful to end up here! I hope one day we come back and stay a little bit longer.

Thank you so much for your hospitality!!!

We stayed here for two nights in early April. Albeit not the best time of the year to visit, we still thought it was incredibly pretty, and it was great to see some of the migratory birds coming back. The forests are really nice to walk through, and the locals are very helpful in a pinch. Jarkko was incredibly helpful in describing possible walks we could go on and the local sights. He was also more than happy to go birdwatching with us! We really felt welcome and cared for during our stay. Jarkko is very knowledgable about the local wildlife and area, and was able to answer any questions we had for him. The cottage we stayed in was warm, clean, well furnished and maintained, and very very cozy. We honestly can't wait to be back! Thanks so much!
