Just over an hour's drive from San Jose International Costa Rica airport (SJO), eco-minded travelers from all over the world have reveled in the beauty of Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel, located within the Los Angeles Private Biological Nature Reserve & Research Station in the Canton of San Ramon. The hotel is ideally situated as a gateway to Arenal Volcano and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you're immersed in one of the world's most precious and complex jungle ecosystems - the cloud forest. This boutique mountain hotel is nestled on 75-acres of gentle rolling hills, with well-appointed "casitas" and Honeymoon Suites, each with their own fireplace, and surrounded by acres of lush botanical gardens. Originally owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo Odio and First Lady, Estrella Zeledon de Carazo, Villa Blanca has become a renown and cherished Costa Rica destination. The architecture reflects the original farm village concept, with a welcoming Hacienda, offering guests exceptional Costa Rican hospitality, premier dining, a private theater, conference facilities, and pampering spa menu. Also quite unique is a replica of a 14th century Roman wedding chapel, La Mariana, with its hand painted ceramic ceiling. Choose from a variety of nature-based activities, including horseback, zip-lines, and user-friendly guided trials, plus excursions to Arenal and Poas volcanoes, hot springs, and rural-cultural tours. This is the Costa Rica where those who "travel well and travel right" want to go. Please feel free to visit our sister-site, one of the most prestigious Manuel Antonio hotels, Si Como No.

Although being noticeably cooler than the rest of Costa Rica, this is in the middle of the cloud forest, which means 100% humidity. That means that, as there's no air-conditioning, everything in the rooms feels and smells a bit damp. But for a couple of nights, that's OK - it's a cloud forest, after all! The rooms are OK. For some reason the minibar did not have the drinks promised in it, but when we asked about this, they said they weren't supplying them because of covid laws. This seemed strange, because that wasn't the case in anywhere else we stayed - also, the minibar was switched off, which was annoying as we couldn't even chill our own drinks. The grounds here are spectacular and really well maintained. There are also really good views over the surrounding cloud forest. We loved the hummingbird garden, which was very tranquil; hummingbirds flew around our heads. The insect life, especially at night, is fascinating. Far more numerous and varied than anywhere else we stayed. Fortunately, the room remained bug-free! Food was OK, but not the best we had on our trip. Bar and restaurant staff were excellent, though, and cannot do enough to help you. We did the morning and nighttime guided walks, and highly recommend them - it's worth staying here just for them. We did several forest guided walks during our holiday, but these were by far the best. The guide was superb, finding us all kind of wildlife, and knowing exactly where to look for a tarantula and lots of frogs. It formed a lasting memory of our trip.

Beautiful and peaceful. Quiet when we were there- not many other guests. Restaurant was very good- special thanks to Julio who took excellent care of us at every meal. Insect wildlife was incredible at the hotel in the AM- giant silkworm moths and rhinoceros beetles. Hummingbirds were prolific and a hit with the kids. We did not see much on the guided walk other than the hummingbirds. Location is remote so not easy to leave and explore other areas. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect. Cooler at night so we loved the quaint tiny fireplace.

Villa Blanca Cloud Forest is amazing. The drive, albeit beautiful, is long and bumpy- and will have you wondering if you have made the correct decision on where to stay. Once you arrive you will realize that you have entered a unique experience unlike anything else. The grounds are impeccable and amazing. The staff is great. The rooms, adorned with handcrafted local hardwoods are unlike anything you have seen before. A must visit- words cannot describe this place.

Definitely worth the short trek from airport to visit for a night. The rooms are not glamorous, but very large, comfortable and clean. The food is wonderful and the staff very nice and most accommodating! The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed the night tour searching for frogs and critters. The gentleman that takes care of the animals was possibly the highlight, showing us the calves and baby emus, he was wonderful!

The great views of the surrounding area, the White Chapel, the wooden wagon, the nature walk with an expert, hummingbird area, great hospitality and service, excellent restaurant dinners, plus comfortable cabins. I was able to milk a cow and feed a week old calf.

Lovely place to relax—beautiful scenery —lots of birds and good food. Milked a cow (my highlight). Off the road a bit but we’ll worth it. Really is a cloud forest. Staff was helpful and friendly.

The staff were incredibly helpful and our "casita" accommodation was perfectly positioned, lovely and quiet with wonderful views and sounds of the cloud forest and stunning grounds. The tours were extremely informative in small groups with personal attention. Breakfast was very good but the dinner menu was somewhat limited (and rather expensive) and for some reason we had to book a table even though the hotel was not even half full! The main drawback was the 7-kilometre extremely bumpy road leading up to the hotel. This took over half an hour but, on the plus side, added to Villa Blanca's unique remoteness and atmosphere. Relaxation personified!

We spent 2 wonderful nights here. The place is gorgeous and the individual casitas were charming. The staff is exceptional, friendly, helpful and very pleasant. They couldnt do enough for you. It has a small atmosphere and is situated in an incredible location. The toad to get there, however, is very bad. It is difficult to leave due to the roads, so better to plan to eat there. The food was great. The patios off the casitas were nice, very private, and the wood burning stoves inside were a real treat. There are nice trails for nature walks.
