We stayed at Orca Island at the very end of the season, the first week in September. We were a little concerned about the weather but we did get lucky about half the time. We stayed for two nights and had warm and sunny weather the day we arrived and about half of our first (and only full) day. Just like any experience planned in Alaska, good weather can really make or break the experience. The whole thing was magical but if it was cold and rainy the whole time we definitely wouldn’t have had such a great time. The yurt itself was AWESOME! So comfortable and cozy with everything you need. Even better than some of the traditional cabins and hotels we stayed at during our time in Alaska. We brought much more food than needed but I guess it’s better than too little. We used the grill both nights for salmon and steak. We made baked potatoes in the oven one night and rice on the stove the other. The ice box was super efficient but if you are staying more than two nights you may need to ask the staff to pick up more for you on their daily runs. We took advantage of kayaking, paddle boarding, the hike across the bay to the WWII bunker and used the row boats for fishing. If you are serious about fishing you may want to bring a little of your own gear. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend- it felt like a splurge but it was the highlight of our trip.

My wife has wanted to stay here for a long time, Im the frugal one so its always been no way, this year, COVID brought a better price. Now if you are not aware, this place is among the most expensive a middle class person can afford, so know that, there are two other properties nearby that are lower price that are similar so thats your comparable. One is a Hostel style and jas kayaks but no water taxi the other is near identical in amenties and what you get but is a few hundred less. The setting, honestly is fairy tale level, and this from a person who has visited resusrrection bay and many other places around the state. So what do you get, in a nutshelll, you get picked up, by there baot taken to the resort, you get a yurt that has the basics to prepare meals, and a BBQ grill, you get unlimited use of fishing gear, and boats, kayaks and paddle board or a skiff ride to hiking. What you dont get food, of any sort, and what we thought was odd, was the house rules, wash your dishes and take out your trash? My wife asked well for the price what do they do? Its a fair question not a complaint just a hmmm? Staff is AMAZING and mostly family. Would we do it again, yes but for longer we hope. Well see but we are working stoff so we will have to save a little.

Make sure that you read and understand everything before you take off on your journey. You have to bring your own food, drink, and ice. They have all the gear you need for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. It was a great experience

This place is the real deal. My wife and I stayed here for our 5th wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been better! The yurt was super comfortable and fantastic place to lounge and play games. The deck was an amazing place to relax, cook food and enjoy being right on the water with killer views. All of the cool walkways, bridges and fireplaces made it a magical place to explore. The waterfall, beach, hike, blueberry picking, paddle boarding, kayaking kept us plenty busy and we got so much enjoyment out of it. We are already thinking about coming back and maybe getting some friends to join to share in this special place so close to home!

I can't say enough wonderful things about this place and the staff. We stayed here with a group of 7 (3 yurts) and it was incredible. Views are spectacular, setting is out of this world, and the activities are so much fun. We had a last minute cancellation and the staff was quick to ask others to fill, so no money was lost -- over and above what they needed to do. Dennis and Simon are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. We kayaked to the waterfall and around the cove, SUP-ed, hiked to the old army bunker -- all were amazing. Saw lots of wildlife along the way. Seriously, just take the leap and book it!
