Bear Lake Lodge is a unique gem located just a few miles outside of Seward and from the hiking trails. The lakefront is picture perfect, complete with kayaks and canoes for guest use. The owners and staff are welcoming and accommodating to all of your needs, including breakfast requests, ice cream, and building fires for a fun evening. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, and you have access to a kitchen for cooking your own meals. Perfect combination of wilderness and amenities. Thanks to Pat, Dennis and Margie for a wonderful weekend!!!!

It was a wonderful time hosting you, and we love it when our guests take advantage of the canoes and kayaks we offer free of charge. Nothing like a fire to create great "new friends and family" atmosphere. We hope you are able to visit us again some time, as we look forward to "repeat" guests because, with their new knowledge of the area, we love to build on that and help create new adventures.

I wish I could have stayed there forever! First, the lodge is beautiful. From the decor on the inside of the house, to the views of the lake and mountain tops in the back. Margie does a wonderful job of making each guest feel at home by preparing yummy breakfasts and keeping the place as neat as a pin. Pat and Dennis (owners) are so passionate about providing the best experience possible for their guests, and it is evident in the hospitality that they showed to me and my family. If you visit, be sure to take advantage of the kayaking in the lake.

As a large group, we were able to book the entire B & B. Accommodations for each family & children were great! Margie, the Innkeeper, was very attentive to details from breakfast for children & adults to making nightly specialty ice cream bars. Dennis, the owner, was very knowledgeable about the area, the state, and his float plane....he was so kind to our 8 year old grandson and let him get in the plane to learn more about flying the aircraft. Our kayakers were thrilled to get in the water. A beautiful location and near the Kenai Fjords National Park & Seaveys' Iditaride Adventure. I hope we can return in the future!!

So thrilled to read your review and it's exactly what large groups planning to come to Seward need to read. We will be downsizing for 2022 and limiting the number of rentals. Should you be coming with a large group, please call us directly to arrange - as two of our guest rooms will be removed from the inventory. They will be available for special arranged larger groups that are looking for a stay of 3 nights or longer. Future guests with smaller families or just a couple - watch for changes in our B&B for 2022. We will still have many of the features that our property offers, but in a more self directed stay atmosphere and many the great features plus all the natural beauty of our B&B still available.. Limited rooms will be available, book early! To find us and enjoy Bear Lake please search for the B&B through online search to locate our website for "Booking Direct". We look forward to having you enjoy our home and all the GREAT activities that Seward offers with a 3 or more night stay. Thank you again reviewers! We hope you can return to visit us again! Pat & Dennis

I can't stop thinking about how wonderful it was to visit Bear Lake Lodgings! One of the best parts of staying here is that you get to take the kayaks/canoes out on the lake as part of your stay. The entire area is just gorgeous! We got to see brown bears, eagles, ducks, and were served amazing homemade gourmet ice cream bars at night and a delicious breakfast in the morning! The beds were very comfortable, they think of everything to you make you feel very much at home. Book as many nights as you can, you won't want to leave and you'll think of it fondly when you do!

Thanks for mentioning that you took advantage of the kayaks and canoes, and for your comments about your wonderful stay. We love it when our guests felt "at home". That is our goal! We chose to live here for many of the reasons you mentioned, like the views! And the lake! And the wildlife! And the ice cream. Wait, the ice cream wasn't already here, but it helps! I'm certainly not "waisting" away because of it. Would love to see you again if you decide to come to Alaska again in the future. Please check our website to assist you on making reservations.

Bear Lakes Lodging was the perfect accommodation for us as there were three of us-my husband, myself and our 25 year old daughter. We had a nice suite with a "master bedroom" and another room with a let out couch that was a very comfortable bed. I don't think our daughter ever realized it was actually a couch. The comforters were thick and SO cozy on those chilly Alaska nights. We also had a kitchen and a bath and a half as well as our own deck overlooking the lake. Margie (housekeeper and overall B and B organizer) provided us with tasty breakfasts each morning-waiting for us in our fridge to be heated and eaten at our leisure. Bear Lakes is a great location, being just a few miles outside of Seward and very close to the Exit Glacier and National Park area. The B and B was everything we were expecting and more and we had a very memorable trip-hiking, kayaking, viewing salmon swimming upstream from the Salmon Weir (see the UTube made by Pat Peary), cruising up close to a glacier and seeing Puffins, Eagles, Otters, even a moose! We also got to hold some darling sled dog puppies! The complete Alaska experience and we never left the Seward area!

Response from Patricia Perry, Innkeeper at Bear Lake Lodgings B&B

Very nice to hear our reviewer loved our new stay-style we offered starting in 2022. I have mentioned it in recent management responses and it’s well explained on our terrific website - but it’s so good to know we are receiving the positive feedback we wanted! Switching from full-time Innkeeper with set breakfast hours and menu to our new style of getting to pick breakfast entrees ahead of stay to heat and enjoy at guests leisure. Guests are given more impute into their menu entrees and have all the accompanying side items too. Seward does offer LOTS of activities to experience - these guests certainly took advantage of that fact. If you are planning a trip and need suggestions like these, we have a list that we’ve formulated touching most all the activity options in Seward. Just email and we’ll forward it along for your trip planning. Besides the list, our reviewer mentioned my YouTube efforts on our channel with hiking suggestions, use of our kayaks and canoes, and the latest called “Our Fishy Story” about the Salmon Weir. See our channel at Bear Lake Lodgings B&B, Inc. Seward, Alaska to view our growing Seward list of videos. Looking to stay with us, please visit our website and “Book Direct”. Thank you Lillian for waiting out the Covid virus and making it to Alaska and our home!!!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay. The location is tranquil, on the shores of Bear Lake, yet Seward is just a few miles down the road. Each day when we returned, we would stop at Bear Creek where to observe the salmon below the weir. We took out a canoe our last morning, to explore the lake, to see bald eagles and salmon. The property is immaculate and the welcome engaging and sincere. A rarity these days, we were served a wholesome cooked breakfast each morning and we enjoyed this chance o get to know the other guests, interesting all. My wife swam in the Seward High School pool, where Lydia Jacoby had trained, the day I was out salmon fishing. Huge thanks to the owners and staff for a highlight of our first Alaska trip. It will not be our last.

The guests' review touched on so many good things for future guests to know. Always wonderful to read complimentary comments about our efforts. It was a treat to have our guest get to swim in our local pool with me, yes... it's Olympic blessed waters due to our community Olympic Gold Athlete! Future guests, we will be mixing up our offerings at the B&B. Our plated and served breakfast will be changing in 2022 to a self-help breakfast with special "choose ahead" entree choices, hearty enough for all the action ahead each day. Not alone making wholesome food as the reviewer stated, you'll get to choose. Plus, have an early morning activity, breakfast time is now at your chosen time or let us know to bag up a "To Go" breakfast. Complimentary kayaks and canoes will still be ready and at your disposal to experience Bear Lake. DISCOUNTS to see the Kenai Fjords National Park and Alaska SeaLife Center will still be offered to our guests. Along with the GOOD discount on sales tax, accommodations outside of the city limits have only 3% sales tax, where inside the city of Seward - be ready to pay 11% sales tax on your accommodations! Seward offers plenty of activity options and we are asking our 2022 guests to book a stay for 3 nights or longer. Only our vacation rental style suite will be available, if you are traveling with another couple or a family - we will offer two suites sharing the kitchen in the vacation rental suite. If you want all 4 rooms in the house for a family gathering, that's possible too - please call. Please see our website after October to view the many changes coming. Hope what we'll be offering will be just what future guests are looking for in the following years. Please find us online and call NOW for information on 2022. MANY thanks for posting a review!

Absolutely loved our stay at the lodge. It is conveniently located a few miles from the town of Seward which is a less than 10m drive. The place itself is beautiful and quiet, sitting on a beautiful lake. Pat, Dennis and Margie were great hosts: Dennis told us plenty of amazing stories and knows everything about the area and the lake (don't hesitate to ask him questions, he will be happy to answer, he even offered us a private boat tour!) Margie is a great cook and makes delicious breakfasts (loved the waffles) and you will have the privilege to taste Pat's delicious ice creams every day. The room was great and had everything we needed. Great place to stay at if you want to relax or explore the region, strongly recommend it!

We really appreciate that you would take the time to review your stay with us. I enjoy telling stories about Alaska and what living here is like. Good thing is that I don't usually have to tell the same stories over and over again because this place is conducive ti creating new ones all of the time. (I'll take the encouragement but don't tell Pat because she thinks it goes to my head!) Margie IS a great cook and loves hearing that people enjoy her breakfasts - I'll pass it on to her. Speaking of Pat's delicious ice cream, I have decided to eat them only on days that end in "Y" from now on. Otherwise they go to waist!

We had a group of 8 and we spread out through the entire place. There are separate rooms with some shared baths--depending on what room you use. We had a kitchen and access to a grill, so we cooked our own fish and ate it by the fire.
The hosts are great. They are friendly and will help you figure out how to do other things in Seward. Or, you can hang out on their decks in the sun or use their kayaks. It's 3 miles out of town so it's quiet, but it's also easy to get into town.
The breakfasts were delicious! I highly recommend!

My family joined me for a week in Alaska to celebrate my birthday, and staying here was a highlight! From the ice cream bars to the kayaks, everything was perfect. Wonderful hosts who helped take some gorgeous family photos of us to mark my birthday. The homemade breakfast, beautiful scenery, and kind housemates we encountered here made the trip even more memorable. I can’t recommend staying here enough!

Thank you for planning the perfect ending to your 50 states before your 30th birthday to be with US! Amazed and thrilled that you have come back around to thinking about us and taking the time to write such a sweet review, it's much appreciated. We all throughly enjoy sharing our B&B with extended family groups and watching them connect and explore our small and special area of Alaska. Pray your family is all doing well and that Alaska might call you back north to explore more. Hugs from Bear Lake B&B and do hope your 30th year is doing GREAT!

This was our third visit to Alaska and third time at Bear Lake Lodgings. We absolutely love this property. It is located 10 minutes outside of Seward on a beautiful lake. We have stayed in two different rooms and both were very well appointed and spotless. Delicious homemade ice cream bars in the evening and a great hot breakfast in the morning, The owners are super friendly and can provide any information you might need. They have a canoe and kayaks you can use to get out on the lake. We used them one evening and were treated to bears feeding on salmon on the shore. It was a highlight of our trip. When we return to Alaska we will not miss staying with them again!

The best time in the whole state to see the Northern Lights is January and February due to the cold temperatures. The storms pass through without leaving clouds and fog as often as they due in the fall. Weather plays a HUGE role into whether you see the lights or not. Typically, the further north you go - the better your chances are of getting to view them - that is why most visitors head to Fairbanks.
We would love to have you visit us in Seward - but counting on seeing the Northern Lights in Seward is very optimistic. The University of Fairbanks has a website for forecasting the Aurora - please reference their website for lots of information at the Aurora - Northern Lights! gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast
We are open in the winter months - please call and check to be sure we are planning to be around! Our winter rates are VERY good and Bear Lake is usually frozen allowing for xc skiing, snowshoe walks or snow hikes. The Alaska Sealife Center is open year round in Seward too. THANKS for asking! Pat
