Read all the other reviews and you have it in a nutshell. Everything they said, ditto. We've been going to the Kona area for 6 years now. We usually stay in a condo complex near Waimea or thereabouts. This is the first time we stayed near Kona. It was fabulous!! The Ranch is 5 miles above Kona on the hillside and a quick drive down into "town" when needed. Costco is nearby and our daily walk through the Garden at the old airport was only a 10 minute drive. As others have said, it is cooler up on the mountain and welcoming at the end of a hot day. We also thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool that overlooked the panoramic view of the ocean below us. Rick and Amy are the BEST!! We have made new lifelong friends and look forward to our return, again and again, and again.

We are a family of 4. We were looking for a quiet space to get away from the hustle and bustle and HEAT of the day. Silver Oaks Ranch was our home while we were on the Big Island of Hawaii! Not only were our accommodations clean and comfortable, hey were equipped with all the essentials we needed! We had a full kitchen and laundry facilities. We had access to bottled water, coolers, snorkels, masks, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach shoes, beach towels and sunscreen. We had loads of fresh towels, bathroom essentials and anything you could possibly need in the kitchen! I am positive if you needed anything else, you only needed to ask and it would be supplied! Our hosts, Amy and Rick, were so thoughtful. They were present enough that if you needed anything you knew where to find them....but gracious enough to be discreet if you needed privacy! We were treated like family! Their knowledge of the Island was absolutely priceless! We enjoyed farm fresh eggs, oranges, tangerines, tomatoes, avocadoes, bananas, Hawaiian coffee beans, Macadamia nuts and chocolate♥ We loved the animals and lost our youngest daughter each day to the caring of the animals. Staying at Silver Oaks Ranch, was like staying with family.... The one thing that stuck out for us accommodation wise, was that the temperature was nice and cool. 1500ft is a comfortable place to be when the sun gets too much! We loved that we could retreat back "home" when we needed the comfort and peace of being travelled out! There is no doubt in our minds that if ... no when we return to Hawaii....we will look forward to the sanctuary of the Silver Oaks Ranch♥

This is our 2nd time staying here. The first was 10 years ago, now all the kids are grown. Every day we enjoyed a cup of Kona Coffee and just enjoyed the views. All the beach necessities were right there and every day we went on some fun adventure. The kids (24, 27, 29 years old) enjoyed the goats and there was plenty of room for frisbee and other activities. It was a home away from home in paradise. Thank you Amy and Rick for opening up your home to the rest of us.

My husband and I stayed at the Ranchview Cottage at Silver Oaks Ranch for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Amy and Rick were very gracious hosts, and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the refrigerator along with chocolate covered macadamia nuts. They gave us suggestions for places to eat and things to do. The Cottage has a large bathroom, king size bed, full kitchen, dining area and living room. The loft had 2 twin beds, ideal for small children. There is a common area between the two cottages with a washer, dryer, and everything needed for the beach: towels, coolers, boogie boards, fins, masks and snorkels. After a busy day on the water, or touring Kailua-Kona (which was hot and humid), it was wonderful to retreat up the mountain to the Ranch and sit on the lanai, enjoying the view of the coastline and ocean while being cooled by the breeze. We enjoyed sleeping at night with only a fan, no need for air conditioning. It was fun to see and pet the animals. Amy and Rick keep a horse, chickens (no roosters), miniature goats and donkeys, and cats as pets. Also meandering around the property are wild pheasant, wild turkeys and a variety of birds. We had a relaxing, wonderful vacation and will definitely return to Silver Oaks Ranch.

If your are visiting the big island and want to stay on the Kona side then this is the place. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable, hospitable, and spacious are just a few words that come to mind. We stayed in the unit with the jacuzzi. There is a large bedroom, closet, bathroom, living room, kitchen and deck all for your use. There is also a shared space with laundry facilities and detergent, etc all at no extra charge. If there is something you need while on your trip it is probably available to you and included with the rental. Water, juice, coolers, snorkels, boogie boards, bathroom supplies, grill, kitchen appliances and even some food in the fridge and cupboards. You literally just have to bring your clothes.
