Our vacation plan was to relax and also explore the Big Island. The "Shack", with its central location, proved to be a perfect place to goof off in between adventures. J had provided a book in the room, "Hawaii The Big Island Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook - Paperback by Andrew Doughty", that is a wonderful resource. Buy one way ahead...

Just minutes from downtown Kona and some of the best snorkeling and boogie boarding on the island. The rental has a full-size refrigerator which makes it nice to eat breakfast or other meals "in" with kids. You can borrow coolers, beach chairs, towels, boogie boards to use at the beach. And they have coin-operated washer and dryer. Hosts John and...

After reading previous reviews on TripAdviser, we booked to stay 3 nights at the Kona Sugar Shack whilst on the Big Island. We received a very warm welcome from Jae and John and they continued to be the perfect hosts during our stay - helping us with useful/local information and making sure we had everything we needed. This is the perfect home away from home for your big island vacation. Jae and John are the ultimate hosts and are always ready with a great restaurant or hike recommendation. The property is beautifully maintained and our suite had everything we needed for our 4 days in Kona. Little touches made a huge difference. For instance: a closet full...

We stayed at the Sugar Shack for a week in mid April with 2 young children (7 & 4). We thought it was the best, most charming and delightful place to stay. We stayed in the Ocean Suite which is like staying in a large condo. It had a full kitchen, dining area, living room, large lanai with ocean view,...

The Kona Sugar Shack is fabulous with a gorgeous view of the ocean, steps away from a white sand beach, a wonderful pool with waterfall and everything you need to have a fantastic vacation stay. The owners are very informative, providing guidance and directions for all the sites on the Big Island, yet are very mindful of their guests privacy....

We stayed in the honeymoon pool suite and loved our stay. The room was perfect for us. We especially loved the outdoor kitchen and dining outside by the pool and ocean view. The sunsets were amazing every night and we had our own private viewing. We could walk right across the street to the beach and boogie board and snorkel...

The Sugar Shack was a delightful place to relax and watch the sun set from the deck. The grounds are exquisite and Jae and John went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, including giving us helpful hints for bike and kayak rentals and favorite restaurants. There are 2 beaches right across the street, great for snorkeling, volleyball...

Mango Suite was perfect. Nice bedroom, comfy futon in the living room, full bathroom, large closet, and a stocked kitchenette. Gas grill on the private lanai, where we grilled and ate the fresh ahi, shark, mahi mahi, and ono from the market up the road. Jae and John were friendly and available but not at all intrusive. Beautiful grounds and...
