Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa is celebrated for its tranquil atmosphere and renovated rooms, providing a zen-like retreat with a relaxed vibe. While the hotel’s cleanliness and picturesque, secluded location are well-regarded, enhancing activities such as snorkeling, some guests feel that the value is compromised by additional fees and renovations. Though the amenities generally receive positive remarks, service and noise level feedback vary, with some travelers experiencing issues with staff responsiveness and construction-related disturbances.

The wait staff was very good. The food was over-priced and only so-so. The female singer was too loud and a bit annoying. Not many other dinner guests on a Friday night which makes me wonder if there are no repeat customers. The decor was lovely.

Hotel's Favorite
The room was clean and spacious. Air condition worked. The pools have 2 sides for adults and the other for family. Water slide for everyone. Hotel guests Balcony to overlook and see the amazing manta rays in the evening. Breathtaking views walking around the resort. 2 restaurants on 1st floor. Coffee and food were great. The gift shop has fruit cups, sandwiches, wraps, tourist gifts, knick knacks, coffee shop with smoothies and more snacks. Strongly recommend you attend their Beautiful Luau. Staff was courteous and very helpful! An Honor and Privilege to have stayed in this beautiful resort, surroundings and most especially the staff and community.

Arrived not knowing that renovations were taking place. Very loud drilling and banging from early morning till late afternoon. Noisy plumbing meant water pipes were knocking all night disrupting sleep too. Friendly, helpful staff but this hotel is a long way from the town and the shuttle bus is very unreliable. Also a long way from the beach. Wouldn’t return sadly.

One ply toilet paper. Construction noise. Restaurants closed. Spa not open. Carpet fumes. This hotel is under extensive renovation. Unless you want to pay resort prices for staying in a construction site, book somewhere else. Hidden fees everywhere.

The entire hotel is under construction, all restaurants except one are closed, no pool bar, food or even a roll away cart offering beer/ soda or water is available. The front staff was rude about it and didn't understand why this was a problem...

This is an old and not well maintained hotel that is facing renovation. However even after the renovation the hotel will not be 4/5 * hotel, most likely 3/3.5 * hotel (Pool area is tacky). The landscape is beautiful. We checkout earlier and moved to a better option in the north. The staff were amazing and the hotel totally understood our frustration and only charged us the days we stayed.

Although the pool bar was closed due to construction our stay was very relaxing! We had a newly renovated room which was modern and nice. The bed was softer than what we like. We ate breakfast at the restaurant on site which was very good. We loved the 100% Kona coffee.

Do not use if you have any food allergies/dietary requirements!! Sadly we had an appaling stay here recently. Partner has coeliac disease and so gluten free food is an absolute non-negotiable requirement. Prior to arriving Outrigger told us and our travel agent they could cater for this. On arrival however, the only restaurant available for dinner is not suitable. There are items on the menu marked as gluten free which are cooked in a shared fryer and therefore not gluten free at all. Attempted to order a steak (again marked as gluten free) only for it to turn up with it covered items from the shared fryer. Spoke to the chef who told us he would just take the bits he couldn’t eat off - so dangerous. Meant we could not eat at the hotel and had to spend a fortune on Ubers so he could eat safely elsewhere. Email to restaurant manager which was later chased up by receptionist is still unanswered nearly three weeks later and incorrect menu is still listed on their website. Lack of care is at the least going to end up with someone very very sick. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Definitely do not stay here until all renovations are complete. Construction workers pushing noisy carts outside the room woke us at 7am every morning. Concrete grinding all day by the pool. One elevator shared by guests and workers. Dirty walkways not cleaned up from the construction debris. They should not be charging full price given how much noise and inconvenience. Only one restaurant on site and very overpriced for mediocre food. The hotel is far away from other food options. No beach either. The mantarays and friendly housekeeping staff were the only positives of our stay.

Despite the one star reviews and the good chance that the spa would be closed, we went ahead and made reservations at the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa for 3 nights because it was within walking distance of our friends' condo, whom we were visiting during our stay in Kona. But, although there was construction going on, we had a wonderful time throughout our stay. We were in a renovated Mountain View King Room overlooking the luau "lawn" and it was very quiet. We never heard any noise -- from the other rooms or the construction. The bed and linens were fabulous (the best pillows I've ever slept on). And, the light over the vanity mirror was so great it actually made me look rested. We also appreciated the efficient but laid back atmosphere of the resort and attitude of the staff. (We're not high maintenance travelers.) We also enjoyed walking the resort grounds and taking in the historical significance of the resort's location. We believe that when all the renovations are made and the spa is once again open, the Outrigger will be an outstanding resort and we plan to book another stay in a future trip to Kona.
