Rooms are large but sparse. Décor is worn but functional. Location is within walking distance of everything in Kona. You'll get a free luau twice a week if you set up by the pool - the stage is next to the pool so you see the show for free.
We just returned last night from 2 weeks at the Royal Kona Resort. I don't have much good to say. It was old, poorly maintained (we had 3 1-foot holes in our carpeting, rusted latches, mold in the bathroom, etc.), and the "fantastic restaurant" Don the Beach Comber, was only o…

"There are 3 buildings...ask for the one in the middle. Much more convenient and looks better than the other 2."
"If you want to get a good night's sleep ask to be on any side besides the Kona town side."
"We aim for a corner room overlooking the pool and luau grounds in the main tower, the "XX19" series"
"Ask to stay in one of the towers with a full or partianl ocean view. The back of the towers and the main building can be noisey."
"The best views are the ocean side or partial ocean view."
