Rooms are large but sparse. Décor is worn but functional. Location is within walking distance of everything in Kona. You'll get a free luau twice a week if you set up by the pool - the stage is next to the pool so you see the show for free.

We just returned last night from 2 weeks at the Royal Kona Resort. I don't have much good to say. It was old, poorly maintained (we had 3 1-foot holes in our carpeting, rusted latches, mold in the bathroom, etc.), and the "fantastic restaurant" Don the Beach Comber, was only o

Aloha Thank you for taking the time to let us know that your experience was less than exceptional. This does not at all reflect the high quality, comfortable vacation we are dedicated to providing for our guests, and your feedback will be shared with our management for thoughtful and careful examination. We hope to have another opportunity to show you the true Royal Kona experience in the future and sincerely apologize for your disappointment and inconvenience. Warmest Aloha Tara

Like most comments read before we arrived, yes, the rooms could use an update. But seriously, you are in Hawaii- how much time should you be in your room anyway? Nice balcony, mini fridge in the room, and restaurant in the resort and others 2 minutes away. No need for a weekly

It was wonderful stay again. We stay the hotel at least once a year. We love the location and setting of the hotel, especially MaiTai Bar where is the best place to watch sunset. It would be perfect if the bathtub is bigger.

Lots to enjoy about this classic cruise ship looking hotel in the heart of downtown kona. Love Dons Mai Tai Bar and i get to see dolphins often in the mornings. This isnt a hotel built in 2018, so a tad dated in the rooms, however, when on vacation i see no reason staying in the

does this resort have BBQ that we can use?
Ignore Dora K. I would use Island Resort loosely. This was the 1st resort on the Big Island, so it is not like the newer and better resorts in the Waikaloa area. That said, they do not have a BBQ area but there are grocery stores in the area where you can buy picnic like foods that are reasonable in price especially if you sign up for their discount card. The condos down by the Sheraton have BBQ areas as do several of the beaches, especially where the locals hang out.

can you rent cars by the day close by?
You know... after living in Kona for 15 years I never rent a car from anywhere else except from the airport. I’m sure you can rent one at your hotel though it’ll still cost you big bucks. Car rentals and hotel stays have added “tourism fees and taxes”.

How is the comfort of your beds? Hopefully they are pillow top or soft because I can't sleep on hard beds and will determine if I can stay at your location! Thank you
Aloha, We have comfortable Serta mattresses. They are not pillow top but they are neither too soft or hard. We hope this helps with your question. Mahalo!

"There are 3 buildings...ask for the one in the middle. Much more convenient and looks better than the other 2."
"If you want to get a good night's sleep ask to be on any side besides the Kona town side."
"We aim for a corner room overlooking the pool and luau grounds in the main tower, the "XX19" series"
"Ask to stay in one of the towers with a full or partianl ocean view. The back of the towers and the main building can be noisey."
"The best views are the ocean side or partial ocean view."
