With its dramatic setting overlooking Kailua Bay, the Royal Kona Resort is an oceanfront landmark in the heart of Kona town, conveniently located just steps from many fine restaurants, shops, historical sites, and activities. Completed in 2021, guests will enjoy the $15-million renovation to the resort’s 436 guestrooms and suites, and oceanfront pool deck.
Drawing inspiration from the tropical surroundings and sheer beauty of the islands the new Deluxe guestrooms and suites are designed with modern coastal inspired décor and finishes, rich teak furnishings, colorful natural fabrics, and beautiful marble wet bars outfitted with coffee makers and mini refrigerators.
The relaxing open-air lobby, surrounded by a tropical saltwater fishpond, leads out to an expansive newly refinished oceanfront sundeck impressively set directly above the ocean featuring luxurious teak loungers, beach umbrellas, and pool cabanas. The Resort also offers a private sandy beach cove and sheltered saltwater swimming lagoon perfect for beginner snorkeling.
Guests will find light meals and a variety of tropical beverages, including the Original Mai Tai, showcased in a world-class oceanside setting at the signature Don the Beachcomber Restaurant & Mai Tai Bar. With its open-air setting, right on the water’s edge, Don’s is the perfect spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of all the activity taking place on Kailua Bay, and it’s a great place to catch a breathtaking Kona sunset. Several nights a week, the Resort is home to Kona’s best oceanfront Luau, the "Voyagers of the Pacific Luau” presented by the award-winning Tihati productions.
Other resort amenities include four tennis courts available for day or evening play; rejuvenating massage and spa treatments; a fitness center; Hawaiian cultural activities; yoga classes; and a great sundry shop. Island specialists are available at the Resort’s Activities Desk to assist guests in booking tours and to recommend other island attractions, and specialists are also available on-property to assist couples with destination weddings and vow renewal ceremonies.
For a great location in the heart of Kailua-Kona, gracious Hawaiian hospitality and service, and the Big Island’s best value, choose the Royal Kona Resort.
Awesome ocean view from the balcony/lanai! Was supposed to have a king bed but they were out, so ended up with two full size beds. Room itself was average. Bathroom is small and the shower had very low pressure. The view made up for it and we don't spend much time in it. The front desk, room service and bell hops were excellent.
I loved the Royal Kona! They have big and spacious rooms, an amazing restaurant on the ocean, a great pool and lagoon area to swim in, and their staff was awesome! They were so friendly and helpful! I love that I could text them if I needed anything including checking out. They made everything so easy and enjoyable! I felt like I was part of the Royal Kona family! And the hotel is within walking distance of all the Kona shops and restaurants. I will definitely come back and stay again! I loved it!
We had a great time at Royal Kona! The staff was pleasant and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and picturesque. We loved that there was a water purifier available to refill our bottles and the fitness center was adequate for what we needed. The location of the hotel is great, with easy walking to many amenities including sundries, restaurants, farmers market, and tourist shops. Our only contention is the rooms are kind of small and outdated. Nonetheless, housekeeping was great and attentive to our needs or lack thereof on certain days. For the price it was fabulous and we would return in the future.
We came for a short overnight experience. We enjoyed our room in the Lagoon Tower as well as the Luau. The room was remodeled and had the best view! The pool had a great vibe with soft beach chairs and good music.
The Royal Kona was the perfect location for our five year anniversary. We had a great corner suite on the ocean, beautiful view (and sounds) of the ocean. Located close enough for walking distance to other bars, shops, and restaurants. We used the pool every day, and also arranged for excursions right in the resort. We will be visiting Royal Kona again !!!!
Wonderful resort in a great location and awesome views of the pacific. Excellent ocean side bar and swimming pool. A cool lagoon with tropical fish. Resort is a little tired but would definitely come back again. The town of Kona isn’t quite what it used to be.
We went to the Royal Kona for our Anniversary. We checking in early to an upgraded room, given the gift of chocolates. Allowed an extended stay for check out. Great bed! We were treated royally! Wonderful staff, Haidee treated us so well. Trip was last minute and could not have gone smoother.
Not my first time staying at the Royal Kona and it will not be my last. Location , Location , Location is all I need to say ! The rooms have been renovated which makes the stay even more pleasurable. Cheers !
Staff was amazing! Dolphin watching from my balcony. Room clean and comfortable. Restaurant and bar superb! Would come back anytime. Would recommend to everyone. Close to shopping and restaurants everywhere. Nightlife around was lots of fun!
Great stay, older hotel but perfect for our needs. Has a restaurant/bar on-site that was great. Staff was friendly. Nice pool. Close to everything, shopping, beaches, lots of restaurants all within walking distance. Would definitely stay again when visiting the Kona area.
