Wonderful Experience Stayed in this hotel with a charming friend and found it to be just wonderful. It’s in a very quiet part of Sankt Johann with no outside noise or traffic....so a good night’s sleep is guaranteed. The hotels location in Sankt Johann is a perfect place to explore this unique and beautiful area of Tyrol. The hotel is quaint and typically and beautifully Austrian. My room was spacious and looking out to a beautiful garden. The room was immaculately clean at all times with really comfortable and appropriate furnishings. Breakfast was an absolute feast with a very large table laid out with I would say possibly 60 plus items including hot and cold options. Service at all times was attentive, friendly and absolutely professional. Evening dinner was of a very high standard with about 6 or 7 courses with plenty of choice. Again service was of the highest standard and on one evening we had the pleasure of dining in the garden on a memorably beautiful evening. Wines and drinks available in the restaurant and bar were of a varied choice with reasonable prices. To be honest I have stayed in many hotels around the world but this place was something special. All staff members were always attentive and professional ( especially Sonya) The hotel also provides a very uuseful card for travel on trains and buses in the area. This is a well run hotel which is a credit to all involved and I can’t wait to return again in June of next year…
Last minute trip to the alps for family skiing led us to this charming hotel and resort, Since walking through the doors we have felt at home. Nothing is too much trouble. The location to the slopes is superb, Food wise we have a Gluten Free requirement and also two teenage boys who know what they like, The meals I have to say are superb, there is an option for a kids alternative to mix in with the wonderful 4 course meal and with a lounge to relax in with games it’s a perfect mix. Rooms are clean, spacious with it made as a twin for the boys. After skiing a dip in the pool is a great end of the day. Snow of course is never guaranteed in any resort but we have lots of great slopes, no queues and more snow forecast tomorrow. Traveling over half term and under covid restrictions with our lads using the ninja holiday pass, FFP masks are needed and a simple test in the local Spar, don’t let covid stop you .. it’s so easy and not a problem at all .. Definitely recommend this hotel and holiday and give it a deserved 5 * .,, Will be back !!…
This used to be my favourite place in St Johann but it has slipped badly. The positives are the owner and the staff all very friendly and helpful. The negatives are now many . I always thought the standard of cuisine was excellent but alas this is no more. Terrible food combinations badly cooked often tasteless and at best luke warm . The week we stayed there were too many faults even to begin a list. All fish dishes were overcooked and the sauces on them were like gloop. The chef seemed to have very little ideas on what would be suitable combinations to serve with various dishes and even how to cook the food. One example is the Gala night dinner which had a sorbet but every single person was served this dish and it was melted and at room temperatue. I have never seen so much food returned uneaten much to the embarrasment of the servers. I must mention Sonya who did her best to apologise. As a result we ate out on three different evenings because the menu was so bland and made no culinary sense. One eveing we were served " Fish Quiche " this came out and looked like a serving of green vomit from "The Exorcist" it was so bad that all six at our table were untouched . Overall the food in the evening was only 1 star and it was noticeable how reduced the choice at breakfast was compared to previous years. I voiced my concerns and they were accepted and an attempt to improve was made but the chef didnt seem capable of reaching anywhere near the standard of previous years. This view was shared by many of the other guests to the point we were laughing about it. The hotel is perfectly placed for the slopes and the town and it was such a shame to have to put up with sub standard meals. The rooms as always are warm and neat and tidy , the pool and spa area are spotlessly clean but the awful food let the hotel down . I'm not sure if I could give Sporthotel another chance too big a fall from grace for me.…
This is the second time at the Sports Hotel. My daughter and I had a fabulous week here. The food is outstanding. So fresh and always presented so well. The staff are so helpful and always have a welcome smile when you return after skiing. My daughter hurt her leg skiing and the owner and staff were so caring and helpful. Our bedroom was spacious and a beautiful view of the mountain. It is like a home away from home and hopefully we will be able to return next year. We would recommend this hotel for location, comfort, excellent food and all the home comforts.
Fantastic week as a family of four (with 2 young kids) on a ski holiday at Sporthotel. Very close walk to ski gondolas and ski school. Lovely breakfast buffet and excellent gourmet meals in the evenings at the hotel. The pool and spa were a perfect way to spend time after skiing. Very traditional feeling hotel with Johnny and his team providing splendid hospitality. Thoroughly recommended.
We recently stayed at this very comfortable hotel. Our room had been refurbished and was perfect in every way. The hotel facilities are very good. There are good sized lounges to relax in, the pool is lovely and behind the hotel there are pleasant gardens. Overall the hotel is very well presented and spotlessly clean. The food at the Sporthotel was very good. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection, and the food at dinner each evening was of a high standard. The staff are friendly and efficient. Special mention for Betsy who appeared to work 24/7, and was always cheerful. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the centre of the village. St Johann is a delightful village with good shops and wonderful views. Thanks to the management and staff for making our stay so enjoyable.…
I loved this hotel. I was a solo traveller and couldn’t have felt more at home. The food was delicious - a choice of two options to be selected the night before, freshly cooked and beautifully served. Dinner also included a salad table, starter, soup and dessert. Breakfast was also good with an extensive choice. My room was spacious and clean. The decor overall was traditional, and I thought quite charming. The hotel location was perfect - near the ski lift and railway station with plenty of opportunities for walking and for expeditions. The hotel was very quiet. The restaurant team were fantastic and the manager was always around and seemed very engaged with guests, but was not intrusive. The weather during my stay was very mixed, but the scenery just was stunning, and everywhere was very clean. I will definitely return. Thank you to all the team at the hotel. .…
Fab hotel. Exceptional staff. Ideal location for slopes no lugging ski gear on long journeys. Clean lovely hotel. Gorgeous food every morning and evening. Highly recommend this hotel. We a family of 5 stayed here in early march and had two rooms to accommodate our numbers. Great lounge in evenings and pool also to keep children entertained and ease the tired muscles from day skiing.
We spent a week here in March 2019 half board for a skiing holiday and couldn't fault the hotel, staff or facilities. The rooms were spacious and very clean, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. The hotel is located centrally and an easy 5 minute walk to the main gondola. The ski room facilities were very good with heated boot racks and plenty of room. The pool, sauna and steam room were also a welcome bonus. We would definitely consider using this hotel again and would recommend it.
The benefit of this hotel is that it is fairly convenient to get to the ski lifts by walking to the end of the road and then walking within 10 mins to the gondola or shushing down (then slightly up) to the old chairlift. Other hotels are located in the centre of town and quite a distance from lifts. However, we didn’t think that this was a 4 star hotel, only a 3. During the last two days when the hotel was less busy, the food was very good. Up to then it was ok, but little choice compared to other 4-star hotels. Many components at dinner looked as if they were previously frozen or processed (not kitchen prepared). Dining staff were very friendly and helpful. On arrival, we were not shown to our room or asked if we need help with luggage. The first allocated room was terrible. Old furniture, cavernous room, dirty and stained carpet and resembled a furniture store room. It took two attempts to get the room we had booked and paid for through Inghams and only after we advised we would contact our travel company. We were originally told that the hotel was full. The second room was small, contemporary, clean and fine. I had to ask for bathrobes and these and the towels were holed and frayed. The “spa” is a small room where a sauna, steam room and light room have been squashed in. Very utilitarian and not at all pretty. Same goes for the pool which had no charm and resembled an underground carpark. The ski/ boot room is small, heated, old fashioned, unlocked to the public but adequate for our needs. There were two benches out in the hall to sit on to put on boots. Not great when four people were down there. Communication from the hotel was poor, referring us to scant information in the room folder. We only found out at the end of our holiday from dining staff that an afternoon snack was available on Mondays and Wednesdays as the notice in the reception hall was in German. Overall we were disappointed with our experience at this hotel.…
