Location couldn't be better for skiing and the food is really good. The rooms are clean and tidy and the leisure facilities are excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful and you really are close to the skiing.
We stayed for a week skiing with Crystal Ski and have a mixed review for this hotel. Firstly the good points. It's well located in Niederau, easy walking distance to the gondola and button lifts at Markbachjoch. The rooms are a good size and very clean. We enjoyed having a balcony. The pool is really great although differed in temperature each night and would have benefitted from being a few degrees warmer as it is outside. Being able to enter the water from inside works really well though. We swam and used the sauna every evening after skiing and there were rarely more than 3 or 4 other people using the facilities. The sauna and steam room area is also great. There's a good sized ski/ boot storage room which is heated and so boots are dried over night and no need to take ski/boot into the bedroom. For us the food was disappointing. We were on a half board basis. Breakfast was OK - there was a selection of cereal, different bread, cold meats and cheeses. The hot option was always scrambled egg and some very fatty bacon. It got a bit boring over the course of a week - would have been nice to have some variety. If you want a healthy option there was a bowl of fruit salad each day that was the most tasteless, soggy tinned fruit ever experienced. Otherwise if you wanted any fruit there was a basket of apples. Dinner is chosen at breakfast and you get a choice of 3 options each day. Our experience was that every evening the meal was beige and fatty (fried meat and chips). Meat dominated, fish was only an option one evening, there were very few vegetables and although there was always a vegetarian option it was very basic - pasta with cheese for instance and on one night a vegetable lasagne that had only a few pieces of vegetable in it and nothing to accompany it. The lack of vegetables was an issue for us - one evening my meal of roast lamb and roast potatoes came with 2 slices of carrot with it! The 'gypsy kebab' was awful - overcooked dry meat on a skewer along with a chunk of frankfurter covered in a tomato sauce. There was a salad bar every evening but again very basic -the same 5 bowls of iceberg lettuce, sauerkraut, carrot, cucumber and potatoes each night with 2 other dishes that varied. You can have salad or soup to start. The soup was salty and stock-like with occasional beans or pasta added. You get a small desert each evening. We're not big drinkers and my partner asked for tap water one evening with our meal. This is fairly standard in the UK and I would have expected there to be a jug of water on the table. He was told that we could only buy still or sparkling water and tap water was not served. He declined to do so and was ignored by the woman that ran the restaurant for the rest of the week. She would pointedly ask me what I would like to drink and not ask him if he would like anything! Reception is rarely manned. The notice says to ask in the restaurant if you want information but when I asked about buses they weren't able to help me. Also you're asked to leave your key on a hook in reception when you're out for the day but anyone could wander in and take your key. A disappointment was the bathroom, which had a shower in the bath, but no shower curtain and a very low set shower head. This made taking a shower without soaking the floor difficult. A simple £10 shower curtain and moving the shower head would be a very cheap option. Finally there are no safes in the rooms. There is satellite TV but only one english speaking channel which is France 24. Wifi is good and available through the hotel. We were on the church side of the hotel and the bells toll at 7am every morning so if you want a lie in you need to request a room on the other side of the hotel.…
Good quality, authentic and welcoming Austrian hotel, situated next to the local church. Lovely staff, family run. The food is plentiful and reliably tasty. The skibar on the front of the hotel is a lovely touch (usually open afternoons onwards) and the barman is very helpful. The boot-room is easy to access and the pistes are only a short walk away. There's a SPA supermarket down the road which is great for lunchtime extras. Bank with cash machine next door. The rooms were decorated and kitted out very well a good few years ago but everything is spotlessly clean, good quality and well maintained. Breakfast buffet with cheese/meat, cereals, bacon and egg and plentiful bread and preserves. Evening meal is usually pre-selected from 3 choices when you have your breakfast. They were very accommodating for dietary preferences. Overall a lovely relaxing week. Niederau is a pretty resort with everything you could need on your skiing/walking holiday. If you are fed up of over-marketed and oversold holidays and resorts (disney-style), then Niederau and the Hotel Simmerlwirt are for you! Lovely…
Not a pretentious hotel with comfortable rooms though we did miss a safe. Food plentiful in a well run restaurant. Vegetarian option. Staff friendly and efficient. Access to skiing easy either by foot to Niederau lifts or by bus to Auffach and beyond to Alpbach. Roomy boot room. We chose the hotel for the outdoor pool and spa and here the hotel exceeds many 4 star and 5 star hotels. Watching the sunset in the bubbles of the warm outdoor pool a real treat. The roomy sitting area at the pool perfect for relaxing with a good book. The spa was very roomy with saunas and steam room as well as sitting areas. Children were permitted with parents which could be an advantage to some and disadvantage to others. Thank you family Seisl
Clean and tidy rooms serviced daily. The food in the Restaurant is very good, even on half-board. The staff are unbelievably efficient, they run like clockwork and don't miss a thing even at peak times. I’m impressed!
