Great selection of food at breakfast and dinner.
Excellent Spa facilities, including the heated outdoor pool
Right next to 7b Ski run, so almost ski in/ski out, if you know where to get off.
The free ski bus stops just below the hotel, which makes access to the main ski lifts easy.
I would like towels to be changed when needed by guests, as nowadays with everyone trying to look after the environment they should not be needed to be changed every day. Great having free bikes here too, we wouldn't have enjoyed staying here so much as we love cycling and Zell area is perfect for cycling, cycle paths are brilliant here and in a better state than our main roads at home!
This a a fantastic place to stay and if we come back again to Zell am See we'll be coming here! Miss the place already.
This is THE BEST ski hotel we have stayed in , in approx 20 years of skiing ! Our bedroom was huge and had lots of cupboard and wardrobe space ( with plenty of hangers).
It had a large flat screen TV but as expected, the only english programs we could find were BBC news and BBC entertainment, but the picture on the TV was superb. Although there was only 2 of us , we also had another room with Bunk beds in .
The choice of food at breakfast and for evening meal was fantastic , with something to cater for all and every meal we had was absolutely excellent. The hotel even allowed us to make up sandwiches at breakfast time , for us to take up the mountains for lunch.
We picked up our hire skis from the hotel, which was really easy and saved a walk to a hire shop. The ski buses are free as long as you have a lift pass and the bus stop to go "UP" to the ski lifts or "down|" to other ski lifts were approx 50 to 60 metres from the hotel front and were very easy to access.
There was entertainment in the hotel in the bar , but as we were pretty tired , we only went on one night. The hotel is 4 star , but for the life of me I cannot see why it is not classed as 5 star as it was absolutely brilliant and i would thoroughly recommend anyone else to stay there .Plus there were lifts to all floors and they had a ski locker room and boot drying facility .
Thank you Hotel Der Waldhof for a fabulous week.
The rooms are very dated. Restaurant area is relatively modern and the breakfast was reasonable. However, the evening meal was very poor in quality, for example, "bbq night" consisted of a tub of pulled pork with a drizzle of bbq sauce, flavourless chicken wings and some slabs of meat whereby one of the chefs coughed into his hand before picking up the meat and slapping it on the grill. We ate out a few nights to get a decent meal.
We had an upgraded room but the only difference from a standard room appeared to be a bath as opposed to just a shower.
The spa area is OK, but nothing special.
Staff were generally rude. No hello from anyone at reception. When checking out at c7am on the day we were leaving, I was asked why I didn't check out the night before and asked if this was "the first time we had been on holiday" whilst he laughed out loud - incredibly rude and frankly disgusting service, hence the 1 star review instead of 2.
The ski / boot room is a total mess, no lockers for most rooms, old benches and a sofa which looks like it's been rotting in there for many years.
Bar area is relatively dated but service here was generally good and prices reasonable.
The location is decent, being a short walk to the bus stop and town. However I am sure that there are far better places to stay in Zell, which is a great town and the skiing is excellent.
Negative: drinks are not included in the all inclusive, personnel is a bit hit and miss - at carnival, one of the staff got drunk and tried and failed to animate the guests during dinner. The cook cutting the meat was not very friendly, which made our smaller children to scared to ask for a piece of roast. This is not true for all the staff though, most were very professional. A special shout out goes to Ferenc, our waiter for the week in the family restaurant, who had all of our rooms memorized by day two (group of 4 couples with children), including our favourite drinks and which children belong to which couple. He even anticipated our requests a few times and sometimes the correct drinks were already waiting for us when we returned from the buffet before we even saw him. That is some four seasons level of service right there.
The hotel is only ski in/out for the hardcore not like some chalets we’ve stayed in but the buses are frequent and bus stops are nearby. If you want to party in Zell, stay in the town, if you just want the option to occasionally party in Zell this hotel is a 10 minute walk. The staff were friendly and there’s lots of space in the bar to sit and chat. Some people just like to moan, don’t be put off by bad reviews.
For the more adventurous, the new link to ski circus makes Zell am See a viable base. Don’t under estimate Kaprun it’s great for snowboarding despite the trek. If the bus queues at Kaprun are off putting get a taxi, not that expensive between a few people.
Johnny the barman at the Waldhof is a great source of local knowledge and very friendly too. We’ll definitely try to visit you in your new summer business compadre.
We stayed over the road (or through the underground walkway) in a clean and large family suite.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Great having lots of free bike to take out - including kids helmets.
Loads of food choices and different every day.
Slight downside of having no iron to use so had to get housekeeping to do it (chargeable).
Two good pools (outside one a little chly though)
Good to get free bus into and from town - as hill a little steep.
Not much evening entertainment happening though - but nice to sit on balcony with free beer and enjoy the views
"Don't book room 113 too noisy and room 111 directly onto swimming pool area so no privacy from balcony door. Agnes our cleaner was fantastic"Read full review
"Its a bit of a walk back up the hill from the town, however don’t let this put you off, you can always catch the bus if it becomes a problem"Read full review
"Stay at the hotel at least one day to get a quiet pool maybe to yourself and a hot lunch. Very relaxing. "Read full review
"The inside pool can get busy, although we always found it to be a bit quieter from around 6:30pm - 8pm"Read full review
