This is one of the nicest hotels of any that we have stayed at - large enough to have good facilities but small enough to be friendly. On arrival we were greeted with a very warm welcome and given a free upgrade to one of the best rooms. We particularly liked the fact that we were given a table in the dining room for our entire stay. Also it was expected that guests would make a packed lunch from the buffet breakfast although there was an option to eat in if preferred. The all-inclusive was perhaps not quite as extensive as in a huge Spanish hotel but the quality was excellent. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the town but it is a steep hill. Buses run regularly during the day from the town to the cable car past the hotel and are free to guests. There are indoor and outdoor heated pools, spa, exercise and children’s which are of good quality. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean.

We've just spent 2 weeks in Zell staying at Der Waldorf and had a fabulous time. Booked with Tui and booking flights and transfers all seamless. The hotel is situated in a lovely location on the road up to the Schmittenhohe. It's 10 mins walk uphill from the postplatz where the busses (free with a mobility card) go from which is so handy. There isn't a lake view but it's still very scenic with direct access onto the walking trails in the woods behind the hotel. The flowers are gorgeous at this time of year. Reception were very friendly and we were able to check straight into our room even though we arrived just after 1pm. We had a junior suite in the annex which was a lovely big room. It was hot as no air con but bearable with the windows left open, the sound of the stream outside was very relaxing! Indoor pool is very nice but busy at this peak time, very few folk braving the outdoor pool as it was baltic (only heated in winter) but we loved it for a refreshing dip after hiking in the sun all day. Only slight grumble was queues for food in the restaurant as it was so busy and the area for the buffet is not big for the number if people so meals were pretty hectic. Like all hospitality venues they were short of staff with new recruits so service could be variable but they were all working their socks off. Special mention to waiters Richi, Harry and barman George who were fantastic. The food was good though we did get a bit bored of the packed lunch options after 2 weeks and there was very limited dessert options, mainly just ice cream but everything else was lovely. Just a wee note to point out that the hotel is NOT part of the Summercarte partnership which is a fairly big deal. The carte gets you free rides on the scittenhohebahn and big savings on other gondolas so you will miss out on this (bearing in mind one gondola can cost as much as 24€ per person per ride). For 2 weeks the cheapest option we found was the season pass Alpin card which set us back nearly €500 for 2 adults and 1 child. The hotel says the all inclusive package and free kids club makes up for this but I'm not convinced. The kids club is not run by the hotel or even at it but locally in Zell and Kaprun and you have to get your child to various locations in the area to use this which isn't that easy, eg for climbing we had to walk down to the bus station then take bus to Shuttdorf then walk 10-15mins to kids club to get him there for 0930. Some other activities involve parents being there, which isnt really my idea of kids club. Our son only did the climbing session which he did love and it was good that we didnt have to pay for it and nice for hubby and I to get time for a run round the lake. The playroom in the hotel is not supervised so kids club really isn't a thing. Zell is stunning and we packed in so much. Didn't pay for a bus once with the mobility card and we went all over including Kaprun, Sigmund thun gorge, Lambrechtshohe cave, Krimml waterfalls and we spent a lot of time over in Saalbach and Hinterglemm all fabulous for hiking and biking. Also caught one of the summer festivals in Zell which was brilliant fun, great music, light show, fireworks and beer! I can not recommend Austria enough for a holiday and Zell was a great base and Der Waldorf was just what we needed.

Great hotel with excellent food. We stayed over the road (or through the underground walkway) in a clean and large family suite. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great having lots of free bike to take out - including kids helmets. Loads of food choices and different every day. Slight downside of having no iron to use so had to get housekeeping to do it (chargeable). Two good pools (outside one a little chly though) Good to get free bus into and from town - as hill a little steep. Not much evening entertainment happening though - but nice to sit on balcony with free beer and enjoy the views

We came back to Hotel Waldhof after being here in 2007. So much changes, and for the better. The food is very tasty and a good choice, maybe could do with more than ice-cream most nights for dessert but they are catering for lots of families. Try not to book a small room as its tiny for a two week stay though we managed, just. The staff are very nice expecially George, Harry, Nela and Ester though some struggle with english. If they could only say a few english sentences eg. would you like another drink? Or can I take your plate away? That's all it would take. Where did they find George!? he has turned the hotel bar around completely, it is a pleasure to be there, unlike our last stay. He is the life and soul of where ever he is, and is very conscientious, they are lucky to have him. I would like towels to be changed when needed by guests, as nowadays with everyone trying to look after the environment they should not be needed to be changed every day. Great having free bikes here too, we wouldn't have enjoyed staying here so much as we love cycling and Zell area is perfect for cycling, cycle paths are brilliant here and in a better state than our main roads at home! This a a fantastic place to stay and if we come back again to Zell am See we'll be coming here! Miss the place already.

I would like to say a special thank you to george who works in the bar and Ester who waits on tables. They always had a nice welcome for me and my son.

I thought it was an amazing stay and all the staff were so nice especially Jonnie, considering it was the end of season. I really liked how there was an outdoor pool and indoor pool. The food was great and there was loads of variety. Overall very welcoming.

I returned from a weeks stay at the Der Waldhof last Saturday. The building decor , dining room, bar , leisure activities and our bedroom were all truly excellent. This is THE BEST ski hotel we have stayed in , in approx 20 years of skiing ! Our bedroom was huge and had lots of cupboard and wardrobe space ( with plenty of hangers). It had a large flat screen TV but as expected, the only english programs we could find were BBC news and BBC entertainment, but the picture on the TV was superb. Although there was only 2 of us , we also had another room with Bunk beds in . The choice of food at breakfast and for evening meal was fantastic , with something to cater for all and every meal we had was absolutely excellent. The hotel even allowed us to make up sandwiches at breakfast time , for us to take up the mountains for lunch. We picked up our hire skis from the hotel, which was really easy and saved a walk to a hire shop. The ski buses are free as long as you have a lift pass and the bus stop to go "UP" to the ski lifts or "down|" to other ski lifts were approx 50 to 60 metres from the hotel front and were very easy to access. There was entertainment in the hotel in the bar , but as we were pretty tired , we only went on one night. The hotel is 4 star , but for the life of me I cannot see why it is not classed as 5 star as it was absolutely brilliant and i would thoroughly recommend anyone else to stay there .Plus there were lifts to all floors and they had a ski locker room and boot drying facility . Thank you Hotel Der Waldhof for a fabulous week.

Our party of six stayed in the hotel der Waldhof in March 2022. We had lots of reservations about the hotel having read recent reviews but the food was nice and there was lots of it. The hotel is only ski in/out for the hardcore not like some chalets we’ve stayed in but the buses are frequent and bus stops are nearby. If you want to party in Zell, stay in the town, if you just want the option to occasionally party in Zell this hotel is a 10 minute walk. The staff were friendly and there’s lots of space in the bar to sit and chat. Some people just like to moan, don’t be put off by bad reviews. For the more adventurous, the new link to ski circus makes Zell am See a viable base. Don’t under estimate Kaprun it’s great for snowboarding despite the trek. If the bus queues at Kaprun are off putting get a taxi, not that expensive between a few people. Johnny the barman at the Waldhof is a great source of local knowledge and very friendly too. We’ll definitely try to visit you in your new summer business compadre.

All inclusive is NOT all inclusive (no house spirits, can’t have a hot chocolate/cappuccino unless you want it at breakfast as at all other times it must be paid for). House wine is poor! Restaurant is a free for all, kids running around and putting there hands into the dishes of food! last night at the bar a group of men assaulted the single bar staff and smashed glasses all over the bar and nothing was done! even before the assault, the hotel is full of drunks that appear to start drinking the watered down beer at 3pm and by 8pm they are abusive to anyone that try’s to get a drink! Waiting staff in restaurant try their best - only staff that seem to be friendly (Tina, zana and Johnny are lovely - rest of staff are rude)! Don’t sit in the bar with your children unless you are happy for them to listen to the kitchen staff swearing and shouting at each other! Spa - not relaxing! There was a young boy sat in the sauna with his ski suit and boots on! Funny but place was then covered in dirt! Family spa opens 2-8pm. Adult spa (nude) is 2-8 and when I dared to walk in with a towel on I was shouted at by a cleaner! Outside pool advertised in room paperwork as opening at 1400, on paperwork on tables in restaurant it says 1500 but doesn’t actually open until 1600! Constant buzzing of fan throughout the night - not sure if it’s from the room above or a fan outside but staff on reception have said there is nothing they can do! Heating and wardrobe door in room is broken - asked to have it fixed and was told someone would come over - I’ve been here 6 days and still waiting! Unfortunately would not return and can no longer recommend.

Hotel was lovely. Room was a perfect size. Food was great. Spa was lovely. Very difficult to find any fault with it. The only thing was you need to walk up a short but steep hill in ski boots to get on the piste, but it was very close. But this would be easy for any moderately competent skier. The staff were super friendly and the wine list was pretty good too.
