Grand Hotel Zell am See garners compliments for its spotless facilities and rooms, with guests often mentioning the well-maintained cleanliness. The hotel's prime lakeside location and charming, historic character are a hit, complemented by live music and scenic views. While many appreciate the comprehensive amenities, including a spa and shuttle service, some travelers feel extra costs diminish the hotel's value. The rooms offer impressive views and space, though a few guests suggest updates are needed. Service quality seems inconsistent, with experiences ranging from highly attentive to disappointingly slow.

From the moment we arrived we knew we were staying somewhere special. The hotel has a very cosy traditional vibe and the staff are all just so warm and friendly. We had booked the Comfort room with balcony and lake view and it was spectacular. Well worth the extra money.

The dining area provides amazing views of the lake and mountains and we were lucky enough to have been moved to a table by the window halfway through our stay. (You're allocated the same table for the week, which is very convenient).

Breakfast had everything you could imagine and plenty of it. Pancakes, bacon, fruit, cereals, plus a chef there to make omelettes upon request.
Coffee was from a machine and wasn't great but it was the same everywhere we went in the town.

For dinner, you're given a choice of three menus with the option to swap dishes from one menu for another. The food was for the most part very tasty. Mario and Hamza were our waiters and they were fantastic.

The bar was lovely and cosy and perfect for a pre or post dinner drink.
One great incentive is that you can hang a sign on your door saying you don't need your room cleaned and in exchange you'll receive two tokens which you can redeem at the bar for either a glass of Prosecco or a soft drink.

The spa areas are fantastic, especially the Grand Spa in the Annex building. We had booked massages and they were well worth it after a day on the slopes.
The location of the hotel is about a 5/10 minute walk to the main Ski station but the hotel has complimentary shuttle buses running every 15 minutes if you don't feel like walking.

If I were to mention any cons it would be that the pillows have zero support in them, so if that's important for you then maybe pack your own pillow from home and also, our original table before we were moved had the tendency to be quite dark in the morning at breakfast, so some brighter lights installed would resolve this. These were only minor things but overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thank you to the great team that made it for welcoming for us.
We've already booked to stay there again for Xmas and can't wait to return!

Just returned from a week skiing and have to say the Grand Hotel is amazing in all aspects. Some of the reviews had made me nervous. Bur firstly, all staff were so friendly and kind at all times. One morning at breakfast I did not order an omelette and the chef checked I was okay! Amazing service. The room was lovely and very much 4 star as per the hotel rating. It was hot like some have mentioned but I just opened the window. The heated flooring was amazing - especially if you left your skiing clothes on the floor for dressing in the morning. The swimming pool and spa were lovely after a day skiing. Also the ski storage was perfect. HOWEVER what made this hotel very special was the food. The bar was lovely to visit before dinner and then the dinner was way beyond anything I have ever experienced in a 4 star hotel - much more 5 star. A 4 course meal every night that was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Amazing find and I would very much recommend. In summary, amazing staff, food and facilitates. Thank you Grand Hotel! I will never find another skiing hotel like this!

We would definitely recommend this hotel. We went for a family ski holiday with 2 grandparents who weren't skiing. The location is fantastic- right on the lake with magnificent views. The town is nice to walk around and the hotel is close to the train station with direct trains to Salzburg for day trips (the train takes 1hr 30mins and cost 39euros for 2 people).
The hotel has a fantastic ski bus service which takes you to CitiXpress lift or Schmittenhohebahn. The bus is frequent and even when there were others waiting, we never had to wait for long- they have 2 buses running. They run until around 11.30 in the morning and then start back up at 3pm.
The rooms are spacious and perfect for families. We had a family room which consisted of downstairs lounge area with bunk beds. A lovely balcony with chairs and table. Then a double bedroom with wardrobe. Bathroom with bath/shower and a seperate toilet. There was lots of hanging space by the door for ski wear.
The boot room is large enough to store skis, boots and helmets with heated boot racks.
On to the food. This was delicious every night. There are 3 set menus each night (1 vegetarian) but you can pick and choose from each menu.
Would definitely return.

This hotel has a lot going for it , great position on lake , fab views, rooms may be old fashioned but they’re fine and the deluxe rooms are spacious . The ski shuttle is good , every 15 mins, the grand spa is wonderful ( the lower level pool and spa is dreadful) . However there are too many poor points which would put me off ever coming again. Xmas is an expensive time to book and we booked 3 rooms at quite some expense. So to be told that I couldn’t have a small jug of milk for tea in my room without a charge was beyond mean. They do not provide milk in the rooms at all just a few tea bags and 2 sachets of coffee. I would expect a 4 star hotel to provide creamer or milk sachets at the very least.
The tv is a smart tv which has Netflix but you cannot receive English channels even on Netflix ?! No wifi on tv apparently even though the hotel has wifi throughout. Only German speaking channels available.
The staff in the bar are incredibly slow to bring drinks over , it takes 3 of them to get your bill! 🤷‍♀️ And the price they charge for a tea with a small teapot of hot water is ridiculous .
The food in the restaurant whilst nicely served and plentiful and varied is very bland . Surprising for Austrian food which is usually so good. Our waiter was nice though.
One of the staff in the grand spa was very rude when we first arrived , completely ignoring us . (We didn’t know where to go and she wasn’t interested in telling us) .
It’s a lovely looking hotel with a lot of potential but the devil is in the detail . And the details are sadly lacking

Dear stephaniefreeman, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback with us. We genuinely appreciate your insights and the time you took to let us know about your experience. As we already discussed during your stay, we addressed some of the issues on-site. We replaced the TV in your room to resolve the concerns you had. Additionally, we are planning to upgrade all TVs in the rooms by the summer season to ensure that features like Netflix are fully accessible to our guests. Regarding the availability of milk in the rooms, we provide coffee sachets with creamer, but we kindly ask for your understanding that we do not offer fresh milk in the rooms due to its limited shelf life. We sincerely apologize if you did not feel well taken care of in the GRANDSPA. Your comments regarding the interaction with our staff there, as well as the slow service in the bar, have been noted, and we will take measures to ensure improvements in these areas. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We are committed to enhancing our services and facilities to provide a better experience for all our guests. We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Best regards from the entire GRAND HOTEL team.

The food was terrific - I'd say restaurant quality every single night. The choices were fairly limited, but the menu was varied and sufficient. The staff were attentive and extremely polite at all times. The facilities were first class, a great sauna, decent pool and well equipped gym. The bar area, and lounge were comfortable, the evening entertainment low key and inoffensive.

The problem we had was the temperature of the bedroom. I set it to 13 deg C within an hour of arrival, having noticed a high heat when we first entered the room. On return from our first evening meal, the room was unbearably hot, to the point where sleep was difficult. Our room backed directly onto the railway line, so opening the windows was not a workable solution, apart from that the posted information on the heating settings advised for the air conditioning to operate, the windows should be closed. The reception staff he next morning made a phone call, and told me the room had underfloor heating and would take a while to cool down, possibly up to two days. On Wednesday it was no better, a thermometer in my room at night read 24 degrees! The staff member promised it would be fixed by the technicians closing some vent or other. Later that night, no change. I spoke to staff members four times, each time they promised it would be sorted. One morning, two ground staff called at the room after breakfast and promised the heat problem would be sorted within an hour. It never was. The temperature continued at 24 degrees the entire duration of our stay. It was stifling. In the end we had to open windows, and with trains passing regularly, little sleep was had. Very disappointing for a 4* hotel with a premium price tag for the stay.

I would struggle to recommend it.

Dear calvincoulter, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your stay with us. We sincerely regret that you experienced discomfort due to the temperature in your room. Our hotel is centrally controlled, which is due to the age of the building. Unfortunately, the air conditioning does not function when the outside temperature falls below 18°C. However, we do have the ability to adjust the temperature to some extent, though it may take 1-2 days for a noticeable change to take effect. We deeply regret that, despite multiple discussions with our team, a satisfactory solution could not be found for you. Please rest assured that we will internally review your feedback and assess how we can better manage such situations in the future. Nevertheless, we are pleased to hear that you appreciated the food, facilities, and service provided by our team. Despite the described circumstances, we hope you will give us another opportunity in the future to fully convince you of our service and comfort. Best regards from Zell am See

A wonderful property with a perfect location on the lake (which our room's balcony overlooked). We had a view of the fountain shows at night (and day) which was extra special.

The convenient location to the middle of town provided us with numerous dining, shopping, and strolling opportunities as well as boat rentals. I will say the breakfasts were substantial and served in a very classic fashion (with the modern twist of a robotic dish retrieval for added entertainment). An afternoon or two in the bar was also an elegant experience. Overall, with the art deco styling, you could imagine yourself in an Agatha Christie novel.

Free valet parking, in a location like this, was also an unexpected bonus. About the only negative we encountered was apparently encountered by other reviewers: the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. This might not be an issue for the Arabian guests but, for the rest of us? Well, it was nice that there were fans in our room.

We're not gamblers so just did a quick walk-through of the small, adjacent casino. Nothing to get excited about (but it was mid-afternoon, not peak time I'm sure).

A definite thumbs up to all the staff who clearly "get it" when it comes to customer service.

Lovely hotel in a great location. We had 2 adjacent rooms overlooking the lake. Rooms lovely and clean etc noise from the railway behind can be heard depending on which room you have and if you want to sleep with the window open. Couldn’t get the air con working also. Ate in the dining room and it was a set 5 course meal ..delicious and the staff were so lovely and attentive. Marco was v funny with his magic tricks at the dinner table . Would definitely stay again. Pedalo boats 1 minute away for the lake, lovely town, cable cars 10minutes away for the mountains [Which are stunning and are a MUST)

This has to be written with the caveat that we stayed in February school half term.
Great location and stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Staff were attentive and worked very hard for the guests.
Facilities cover most needs with Spa, pools, saunas, gym etc.
Good parking facilities at a reasonable price, that said having paid a few thousand Euros for a room for a week, adding parking on top is a hit.
Food options cover everyone’s needs, and were of a decent standard.
The bar is a great social area after a day on the slopes.
The issues I have are that the hotel is stuck with feet in 2 camps, the past and the present and for me gets caught up with what not knowing what it really wants to be, that said and this the crux, school half term was more like Butlins Bognor than a 5 star hotel, and that’s down to the lack of parental control of a minority of the guests.
So expect kids running up and down corridors shouting and screaming past midnight, with the associated door slamming as they enter and leave rooms.
Free for all in the swimming pool of dive bombing/throwing of pool toys etc. to the point where I took exception and hunted down the parent who was absent to get them to control their out of control offspring.
The hotel has a duty of care to ensure all guests safety and enjoyment and they failed on that point, leaving a large number of guests dissatisfied by the actions of the minority, and not stepping in to ensure that everyone had a great time.
I am sure that staying at the hotel outside of a school holiday would give a totally different view, but the reality is sometimes you have to stay at these times and it was rather spoilt.
Last moan, please park up and hide the restaurant robots when loads of kids are present, it was like watching the Pied Piper, who ever decided they bring value to the hotel should be shown the door, the poor restaurant staff looked so fed up with marshalling kids that were constantly running up to it and around dining tables.

We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed our prime location, stunning views, and the range of facilities available, including our spa, pools, and dining options. The staff is a disaster! Wanted to have a coffee in the rose garden but were not served, although the waiter saw us. As soon as "ARAB" guests arrived, they were immediately served. So you are served as a "local" guest and you will probably not be wanted there......will avoid this hotel in the future...all designed only for ARAB guests....may not happen in such a hotel....

Booked a junior suite for myself and teenage son via booking.com junior suite is large with mezzanine bedroom space and a sitting room sofa bed

I emailed the hotel to advise to please ensure the sofa bed was made up. On arrival it wasn’t and housekeeping were sent up. A very rude housekeeper said the sofa bed was broken and offered I just sleep on the top. I wasn’t happy to do this for almost 400euro a night. Reception said the hotel was full and no other available rooms so abed which resembled a hospital bed was wheeled in. Not ideal

Other rooms were available to book online!

I had booked half board but the manifest In reception noted B&B only I had to take photos of my booking and email them to prove otherwise. It was sorted but all such a drama when you just want everything to be simple

Morning of day two renovation work started at 7am loud banging and drilling continued constantly until we left for the slopes at 9am. Not the quiet peaceful holiday we had expected

The good aspects were overshadowed by the bad. The staff were lovely but clearly some issues

First time at The Grand next year back to The Tirolerhof far superior even if rooms are smaller
