Stayed in a lovely self catering apartment in Schuttdorf not too far from the Arietbahn gondola. Its a lovely area if you want more peice and quite than the centre of Zell, yet is only a 15 minute walk around the pretty lake. Or only 7/8 minutes walk into Schuttdorf town centre where we found some great welcoming places to... More

This place is right at the top of the mountain with great views and has great Apres ski with a good atmosphere. We went here several times for drinks and on the last day decided we would treat ourselves to lunch in the restaurant. The food was good and we sat inside due to it being a bit chilly outside.... If you like making first tracks before breakfast, you can't beat this! I've been coming here since 1994, and enjoy the atmosphere thoroughly. Always a party in the afternoon, with the owner playing DJ. Over the years, the owners have invested heavily in improvements. It's certainly better that when Emperor Franz-Josef stayed there!

Being located on top of the mountain above Zell am See this hotel is everything a keen skier could ask for. The rooms are functional, although small and spartan. Note there are no toiletries provided so you will need to bring your own and the pillows are very 'thin'. The food (breakfast and dinner) is very good, with a good... More

Berghotel Schmittenhohe offers a fantastic stay in a wonderful family run Austrian chalet. Located 2000 metres up at the top of the Schmitenhohebahn, the chalet offers spectacular panoramic views of the mountains. After a fantastic breakfast you just pop your ski's on, step out onto fresh powder snow and set off for a day's skiing! Apres ski is in full... More

I didn't stay at the hotel, but stopped here quite a bit for some drinks and entertainment at Schnaps Hans! This is the place to have a nice drink when you're on the slopes, as it is at the top of the mountain, so you can resume skiing immediately and ski for a very long time (before you obviously come... My title says it all. I was there the first weekend of Feb 2013 in room 306. The location is wonderful for morning skiing -- but weather wasn't so cooperative for us as it snowed non-stop for 72 hours reducing visibility in the early morning. The room was definitely one of the smallest I've ever stayed in. There was one... More

We had the amazing opportunity to stay at the Berghotel Schmittenhohe which is located when you get off the cable car at the top of the Schmittenhohe mountain range. The food is outstanding (try the locally sourced mushroom soup), the service is fabulous (Tomi and the chef looked after our every need) and the views, well SPECTACULAR! We had the... More

We were given a room in the old section and I agree with the previous reviews that they were very small. The hotels best feature is it's location, and I found the restaurant/bar staff very friendly and efficient. The view makes it worth the stay, but the recent renovations should have put more thought into the ski storage room, it... More

Despite what other reviewers write, I'd say the experience and relative convenience of staying on top of the mountain was quite enjoyable. The limitations are obvious, so don't stay there if you don't like being constrained to the gondola schedule. The views from the hotel, the ability to ski before breakfast, and the hospitality of the staff all made for... More
