Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for nearly a week with our two children aged 7 and 5. The Resi apartments are connected to the main hotel and you can have access to everything that the hotel offers, but at a lower price. Our apartment had a curtained off area with bunks for the children, and a balcony for sitting and reading. Breakfast is superb - loads on offer and we deliberately ate enough at breakfast that we wouldn't have to have lunch. Kids loved the buffet and trying new things. The hotel is in a good location to explore all the cablecars of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. The village of Hinterglemm is less than a ten minute walk along the river from the front door. The staff are super friendly and helpful. There is also a kids club onsite which is free, where you can send the kids to do activities for a couple of hours at a time, including 6-8 in the evening (thank you Melanie!). The kids club highlight of the week is Thursday, when they get to make their own pizzas. The hotel grounds are lovely, with several different pools and many corners to sit and relax. Fantastic hotel in a wonderful place. We would love to return.

This is our second stay at the Resi and it works brilliantly for us. The location is great - a short distance out of Hinterglem (easily walkable) yet lovely and quiet. The Skill ski school is opposite as is the beginner ski slope. We love having the flexibility to cater for ourselves yet be able to use all the facilities of the main Theresia hotel (the outdoor pool is wonderful).
The staff are wonderful and very helpful.
We can’t wait to stay again!

With my wife stayed in Hotel Johann for New Year 2013-2014 and we are disappointed in rate value/confort. Probably, we got last room in hotel, on back side (no 611) and there is no plug in 220 nearby table (we have in 4* hotel after cable nerbay my bad). Also WI-Fi didn't work good just a litle in small toalet. We said three times to repair or arrange that I can buy SIM card (Austrian T mobile maybe) for my budget, but they in all days didn't even discouss on this mater...
So, we stayed in small room, less then 19 m2 for big money. But maybe is that our mistake, we are last guest on list..
Our table for breakfast and dinner are on (hot) galery, and we can see just a staff. So second one, we can't observe outside, like from our room can't (we see a hill form our window). We don't have luck! We are like on prision. Room, eating table and sauna all is in bunker.
But we must say that kichen (dishes) was excellent and that make our feelings better. Also sauna world is excellent, just pool area isn't becouse you don't have a rest area.
When is not enought snow, you can't skiing to the hotel, and also you can't skiing from the hotel to skiiarena. So you need a Bus, what is on the moning full, and you wait more than 30 minuts if you are not early bird. So between 9 am and 11 am it is trafic on bus, but pozitiv is, that bus stop is no the entrance of hotel!

+1
This place is perfect. The food is fabulous. The staff are just perfect. Thanks Daniel for your superb wine recommendations and indulging me in my love of cocktails! Thank you Charlotte and the rest of the team for answering my endless questions.
Ski bus right outside. Ski school for beginners opposite and for second timers or refreshers, a 5 minute walk or one stop on the bus. Ski passes from hotel and ski rental on site. Great ski storage space. Beautiful surroundings.
Best part. Definitely the hot tub and outside pool whilst watching new year fireworks and the instructors snake down the mountain with their torches.
Childcare any time in house.

I have a decidedly mixed opinion of this hotel. We booked it through Hotel Theresia, the sister property next door, and did not realise that there is a difference between the two. If you stay here, you can use the Theresia's spa, swimming pool, etc. One should be aware that some of the pictures on this site, such as of the pool area, are for the Theresia and not for the Johann. Again, you can use them, which we did regularly. We liked especially the outside pool and the spa area in the basement. But there are differences between the two hotels. The Johann's rooms are in serious need of an update. The bathrooms are very basic (no bathtub, loud toilet) and the sleeping area is what was hip in Austria some years ago.
In terms of food, the hotel staff claim it is the same as the Theresia. In general, I was very impressed--some of the best vegetarian food I have had in a hotel setting. We really liked the wait staff in the Johann--friendly, caring. In fact, I would say that, having spent six winters at a half pension someplace in Austria, the food was the best I have had over six week-long stays. So big picture is lots of praise.
But one should be aware that the Theresia is still a better choice for food. One night at the Johann with a buffet some of the food items listed on the menu were missing; we were told there was not enough room to put them out. Another night for fondue there was no salmon as advertised and the shrimp quickly ran out; our waiter commented that the Theresia got most of the salmon that evening. The wine list is a lot shorter. So we took pictures of the Theresia winelist on our phone and asked the waiter to get some wines missing at the Johann. The Theresia has a guy each morning making crepes and omelettes before your eyes; if you ask, you can get some of the same things at the Johann, but the setting is simply different. The dining room at the Johann, in fact, is narrow and not particularly charming.
To be honest, these are minor issues--given that so much did work well and given how friendly the staff were, if we had paid less to stay at the Johann, I would say nothing, but the price was still pretty high. And that is the reason why I list this property as "average" in the review--we have stayed in similar rooms for less money in Austria.
To sum up, if we return--and because the owners and the staff are so delightful we very well may book again--I would want to stay in the Theresia. I would give the Theresia alone 4.5 to 5 on a scale of 5 (depending upon cost--it really is a lovely hotel with great management).
One more comment--It is useful to have ski rental right on the premises for a fairly small hotel.

We visited the Johann for the fourth time this winter and are certain to book again for next year. It is an excellent place to stay and very, very relaxing. We visited twice before our daughter was born and loved it. As soon as she was old enough we came back and enjoyed it as a family holiday. She loves it (esp Charlotte!) and said 'this is my best holiday ever'.
The food, service and welcome from the staff are excellent, the rooms are well decorated and very clean. There are fantastic pools, sauna and hot tubs, good quality childcare and play facilities. The lobby and bar area is great for a drink, catching up on work or for sampling the excellent cake and ice-cream buffet. We have visited Saalbach Hinterglemm with various friends over the years and when they don't stay with us in the Johann, they want to visit every night as they love sitting in the lobby.
I can't recommend it highly enough. Book direct- the packages are excellent value and it is a very quick transfer from Salzburg.

The hotel is very nice. We booked an apartment for the four of us (2 adults and 2 kids). The accomodation is high level and the people there are gentle and always trying to help for the best. Food in the restaurant is very good. For skiing, the teachers are very good and the rental is easy.
Very good first stay here, looking forward to coming back next year.

The hotel is set in landscaped gardens with mountain views. The food is outstanding and the high quality organic ingredients make a real difference. We found the staff friendly, helpful and very competent. The pool and spa facilities are also first rate. The family room in the Hotel Johann building was on the small side but there are plenty of other room categories to choose from between the two adjoining Hotel Theresia and Hotel Johann buildings which are connected through a footbridge. Our daughter was very happy with the multilingual staff of the Kids Club.We thoroughly enjoyed the surrounding mountains and numerous outdoor activities.
Overall a great experience .

Our family really had a wonderful time at Hotel Johann. We had already been here il 2003, and wanted to come back eager to see the changes the hotel underwent in this decade. Well, I would say they just got better growing up! Excellent food, excellent facilities, good location and the all the staff really make the difference. I woul surely recommend this hotel to averybody and I will definetely come back.
