What a great week skiing we had! Arrived Saturday 12/03/22, family of four (two adults and two children under 10), on a Crystal Ski package holiday. Transfers from Salzburg were quick with two stops before ours in a small minibus/taxi. Check in was quick and simple, basic information on meal timings and spa facilities given. Shown to our room (706) which was across the road in the annexe (less than 50m away from main building). Lovely spacious room with lots of storage, bathroom was adequate, not the biggest for a family of four but ample and had everything required. There is a fridge in the room (two actually) which was handy for drinks etc. Beds were made up and towels changed every day as well as bins emptied. Beds were comfortable, but i guess that's subjective depending on what firmness of bed you like. Pillows weren't the best but again subjective i suppose and we didn't ask for more but am sure if we did we would have been given some. After being shown the room and unpacking a bit we then went and got lift passes, ski and boot hire and ski school for the kids sorted, so not hotel related but can highly recommend Furstauer SkiSchule Saalbach and the SkiFurst Saalbach Rent a Ski (both within 100m of hotel and booked separately from our Crystal Ski holiday package as found it cheaper than the ones they offered). The hotel is in a great location. 100m from the Schatberg Express Gondola and ski school meeting point 1 (if you're a beginner with Furstauer SkiSchule) in one direction. And in the opposite direction, 250m from the Turm-6-seater chair and Kholmaisbahn gondola and ski school meeting point 2 (again if you're with Furstauer SkiSchule) and 300m from the Bernkogelbahn - which offers great blue runs for advancing beginners and a great fun park for the kids (and adults) and ski links to Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn. Hotel food was great. Plentiful breakfast options at a self service buffet from cereals, to pastries and breads, hams and cheeses, fruit, yogurts, eggs (fried and scrambled) sausages, bacon, fresh coffee, fruit juices. You will find something you like I'm sure. Dinner was a mixture of buffet starter options (salads, hams, cheeses, breads etc.) followed by soup options, followed by a choice of main course which you choose the night before, there is a meat option, a fish option and a vegetarian option, and whilst some of the dishes seem a bit 'out there' we gave most things a go and on the whole it was very good and we couldn't complain, there is then cakes and pastries and ice cream from the buffet for pudding. We visited the pool a few times which we thought was a little on the cold side but was great for a short swim and relax in after a days skiing and the kids loved the bubble machine and big water fountain (both turned on by buttons on the side of the pool). The Sauna and Steam room are great, i wasn't brave enough to get under the cold tap or shower after but apparently it's good for you... The staff were Brilliant. Especially Caludiana and Fernando. Claudian was always happy and singing one night even letting my son (who loves music and singing) choose what songs were on next. Nothing was too much trouble. Reception printed off our boarding passes for the flight home and answered our questions about the resort during the week. We didn't use the hotel bar or Prosecco Bar as Apres on the piste was lively and wanted the kids to experience 'proper' Apres, but the bars were busy and the outside seating was always full near the end of the day when the sun was out - nice for a spot of people watching I'm sure. All in all, a great holiday! Would recommend this hotel and would stay again, actually my wife has already tasked me with looking for next year... Thanks Berger's Sporthotel for a great holiday. See you soon…
We 5 had a superb week skiing. The Shattberg lift was just 5 minutes walk and the sun shone. This hotel has a slightly old fashioned charm as has the host Frau Berger who greeted us personally when we arrived about 11pm. The buffet is extensive and perfectly adequate. We had nothing to criticise and had a lovely holiday.
Great hotel , nothing too much trouble , olde world style hotel with a twist , food was excellent couple of weird concoctions for British palette but everything well cooked and tasty Staff were very friendly and helpful I wud definitely stay again
Just got back from holiday in Saalbach Austria, we had to change dates due to work priorities so unfortunately also had to move hotels. We unfortunately stayed in the sport hotel Berger which is sold as a 4star hotel by Crystal, what an absolute dump this place is, we were charged the same money as the previous nicer 4 star Eva Gardens hotel. My point being we spent a lot of money on a hotel which is in dier need of a refit, poor food, tiny rooms, weird staff etc, also never had any communication off of any Crystal reps the entire stay, will never use them again and stay clear of that dreadful dump, the Sport Hotel Berger!
Had a good stay at bergers sporthotel. Positive notes, had a great time with claudiana at the rotsalon, and was helped wonderful in restaurant by melanie, marie and all the others. People working in hotel were all very friendly. Hotel is in the center of saalbach, next to lifts to ski slopes. Hotel was also very nice to see. Food was not very good, i think you should order a la carte in hotel! But had a wonderful week.
What a wonderful time we had!!! We managed to make to Austria as France was closed to British tourists and we couldn't be happier with this last-minute change. We were well received and taken care of. the staff of Berger's Sports Hotel was excellent, specially Claudiana & Laura. We were extremely happy with the vast diversity of food in the buffet, which helped as the main meals sometimes were a bit of a hit and miss. But as usual, you are very well fed in Austria. The rooms were a bit on the small side, but we were lucky as we were the first lot coming in for the season so rooms could be changed then. The owner of the hotel was so accommodating and that certainly makes all a big difference. Swimming pool & sauna was pretty good after a full day snowboarding. We have enjoyed so much our stay that would definitely go back. Thank you Claudiana & Laura, we miss you!…
Accommodated my 17 ski mates and I for a week without a problem, which isn’t easy!! Claudiana in the restaurant was particularly helpful and accommodating and handled our group well! Perfect location for ski holiday
had 7 days in bergers sporthotel. The rooms were nice, food was great. And the service from the staff was great. Especially Fernando and Claudiana who were our waiter and waitress did a great job. They were always happy, and made sure we didn´t need anything. We were 9 guys together, and even though we were a bit too loud sometimes, the just smiled at us. Great service. Will definately come again.
A group of 5 of us recently stayed at this hotel and we were all disappointed with the facilities, food and lack of interest from the staff. Starting with the plus side it is ideally located in the centre of Saalbach. This does have its drawbacks though with noisy passers by, vehicles and church bells. One of our group had a box size single room in the main hotel which you could barely swing a cat in. The other 2 double rooms were in an annex approx 50 yards down the street. Very unusual and a pain in the backside at meal times. The rooms were generally clean but very old fashioned. The 2 double rooms were very different in layout with one looking like the brochure and the other looking nothing like it. The more tired room had some kind of corduroy headboard and some ancient chandeliers. The balcony was also tiny and the furniture was buried under 2 feet of snow in the corner so it was no use at all. We also had 2 old and dirty mattresses leant against a wall outside one of the rooms for the whole week. GROSS! The walk from the annex to the main hotel was a bit of a mind field too having to avoid the ice and snow at the side of the hotel as the path hadn’t been cleared properly. The main hotel itself looked in need of some tlc and a massive update. The boot room was down a steep flight of stairs but did what it needed to do in storing skis and drying out boots. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was without doubt the restaurant. We were given a table on the ground floor and had to negotiate a twisty staircase and a long corridor before we got to the cramped self service part of the restaurant. Breakfast was the usual mix of continental food with the odd bit of hot food but not a great deal of variety of quality. We had to constantly ask the waiters for top ups if something ran out and generally there wasn’t a replacement. This occurred more than often on the evening service. When we arrived we were given a choice of evening food service. 6 pm or 8pm. It appeared the best food went out at 6pm and the 8pm sitting had whatever was left. Very little fresh food was introduced on the later sitting with old stale food left out from the first. In addition to the poor food and service we also had to endure members of the public being invited into the hotel and given far better service and quality food than what we had. When I questioned the restaurant manager, Tomasz, about the disparity he said it was because they paid twice as much as the residents! Not a good answer and when he showed me a receipt for a table of 4 persons who ate like royalty I had to laugh as this was clearly not the case. The restaurant was more bothered about generating extra income from outside trade than its own guests. In my opinion, this is not how it should be. We were so perplexed by the lack of interest from the hotel staff that we eventually ate out most evenings and just had breakfast in the hotel. Overall, it’s safe to say this hotel is no way 4 star. The facilities and decor are 3 star at best. The food and service nearer 2 star. It’s safe to say we will never return or recommend this hotel to anyone and a complaint will shortly be made to our holiday company.…
A very warm welcome once again from Karin and the whole Berger family on our arrival. I just love this hotel and have lost count of how many times I have stayed, it’s central for lifts, nightlife & shops. Rooms are always kept very clean with comfy beds we were also very kindly given rooms as we had requested. Can’t fault the food, Breakfast offered such a great choice including juices, cereals, yoghurt, fruits meats, cheeses, hot selection, breads, pastries and even energy bars to get you off to a good days skiing. The new Spanish Chef offered a varied choice at evening meals which was plentiful and first class. I've always feel at ease staying here when a single traveller as nothing is too much trouble for any of the friendly staff. This time our main waitress was Melanie who was very attentive and friendly. The pool and Spa areas are spotless and offer a a chance to relax whilst enjoying the views of the town. I would never hesitate to recommend this lovely family run Hotel and hope to return again in the very near future.…
