Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for a family new year skiing holiday. Location lived up to everyone’s reviews and was fantastic. Within a 5 minute walk you could choose to be at two lift stations.
Hotel was clean and tidy at all times and staff were very friendly and polite.room was spacious, bathroom was a good size with a great hairdryer, beds were big (singles put together to make a double) with single duvet. Hotel and room were lovely and very warm.
Food was delicious, but felt there could be a bit more variety of meats for the main plate. Think younger children may struggle to like their mains as very rich. Saying that, they cooked a different dish one night for us as we didn’t like the two choices which we were given at breakfast to choose from. They also have a buffet dinner in the week and you just pick what you’d like. Agree with a previous comment that water was at a premium of €5+ as they don’t serve tap water (this seems to be the case in the restaurants here). A soft drink would cost you just under €4 and a large beer just under €6.
Breakfast was good and in a buffet style again, great tea and coffee choices (coffee brought to your table).
In the month of January they also have apres cake, which were tasty (this also turned out to be soup and bread a few days, not cake).
Boot room was good and had heated facilities for your boots. Plenty of space for everyone’s skis/boards etc.
Gym was small - didn’t use it so can’t comment, but only opens up later (not 9am as mentioned in their book) when the swimming pool and wellbeing room is open. Wellbeing room was clean and good space, heated outside swimming pool didn’t feel that warm, yet good all the same. Just remember that you’re in Europe and if you take your young children to the heated swimming pool you may get to see naked Europeans walking into the sauna/steam room.
Would highly recommend this hotel and trying Austria out if you’ve not been here before. The only major disappointment we had here was the nightclub next door (just outside the boot room). After a day and evening of skiing the last thing you want to hear is people shouting and getting into fights outside your room. It would kick off early hours of the morning p(2-4am) every night. You cannot hear the music from the club, just where people are standing outside socially smoking. We did try to move to the other side of the hotel, but as the hotel was fully booked we weren’t unable to move. Just pack some ear guards!

First of all it needs to be mentioned that the location is unbeatable, it's on the main pedestrianised street, about half way up on the right hand side. It's surrounded by numerous bars and shops (supermarket is two minute walk away) and it's literally a 2 minute walk to a ski lift.
Location of my room was at the rear of the property which faces the nursery slope. If the temperature outside is cold enough then the snow cannons will be pumping out fresh snow all night so take your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper as I believe it can be quite noisy at the front of the property too.
The room was clean and an adequate size with large windows, temperature control in the room was good.
Now then...onto the food. Breakfast consisted of the usual eggs, bread, meats, cheeses, sausages etc, however there isn't any fresh coffee or fresh orange which in my opinion isn't acceptable. Evening meals were what I can only describe as 'school dinners'. One meal in particular stuck in my mind....four tinned potatoes, a wiener schnitzel (not freshly prepared) and a bit of cranberry sauce, no vegetables. Another meal was an absolute shocker (pic attached) a thin slice of beef with three potato croquettes which were obviously frozen at some stage, all drowned in a sea of gravy!! This is not a balanced meal that a chef would be proud to send out of the kitchen.
I'm a bit of a foody and I got the distinct impression that all the food was either frozen, tinned or pre-bought. Every main meal was either pork, beef or fish which lacked imagination considering the whole range of delicious Austrian cuisine they could have put on the menu.
The 'dessert' was a choice of two square mushy....desserts with no discernable flavour. Service was attentive and good just be careful of the drinks prices during your meal.
I didn't use the wellness facilities but I believe they are good.
To summarise I would say that the food needs dramatic improvement, the hotel is clean and in a good position but not a 4 star, I have stayed in 2 star pensions with a similar feel.

Had a great ski holiday and the hotel staff couldnt be more helpful. They have all been very friendly, even giving me ice for my knee at the end of a long day on the slopes and even though we arrived on the first day after 11pm we had a plate of cold meats and bread in our room.
Our room is one of the largest we have had when skiing and had a balcony with view of the slopes.
The food is good basic Austrian food. The breakfast has a range of cooked and cold options and if things ran out they were restocked.
There were choices of mains every evening with a salad buffet amd soup to start and a range of deserts. The wine was nice and at 25 euros a bottle similar to other places we have stayed at. We got bottled water for free every night.
My husband loved the outdoor pool, although it was small it was very warm and the sauna was excellent.
If we visited Saalbach again we would stay here

I think this hotel is riding on a 4* purely because of it's location, which is indeed excellent. The staff are also great and will go out of their way to make you welcome. The food is a massive let down. It is simple canteen stuff. Breakfast is ok but nothing seems that fresh, tinned fruit cocktail with yoghurt and limited cereals which are bog standard, the eggs, sausage, bacon, cheeses are fine.
Dinner is dire. Again canteen food and nothing seems fresh especially the veg which is just water logged frozen mixed veg every night. The soup is broth and the same every night with a variation of something floating in it, it tastes like a watery stock cube. For the money you pay you should be getting something a lot better than this. They seem to have cut corners on everything and you get the impression they are serving food up that's been left over from the night before under a different guise. The deserts consisted of many variations of blancmange or mousse.
The rooms are ok but very out dated and small. There was a patch of black mould in the corner of the room when we arrive which seemed to receive a coat of paint every day when we were out to try and disguise it.
The sauna facilities were ok but not up to the standard of other 4* places we have stayed at before, very small.
If your priority is location then this would be good but not if you enjoy good food as you will be very disappointed.

Despite being a comfortable stay I would not recommend this hotel. The evening meals were below average and you have to pay for all tea and coffee. The bottles of wine were also very expensive at around £30 a bottle. This is the first hotel, chalet or B&B that I have ever stayed in on a skiing holiday where you do not get drinks provided with cake etc after a days skiing. Also don’t expect the outside pool to be very big - great idea to have a ‘wellness’ centre but the pool was not very warm and certainly not big enough to do a reasonable length in. On the plus side it’s comfortable and close to the pistes. However the proximity to the pistes means you have the noise of piste bathers late at night as you are trying to sleep

I have been skiing almost every year since my early twenties and have usually stayed in a 3 star hotel or catered chalet hotel. As we are now in our mid 60’s we decided to go for something more luxurios and opted for the Panthera.
The hotel is superbly situated just a few yards from the two main lifts in the resort, it is on a busy street and as a result does suffer some noise at night. We loved the spa and the outdoor heated pool, which were ideal for relaxing in after a hard day on the piste. The hotel has been totally refurbished in the last couple of years and the public rooms, spa and bedrooms are beautifully furnised, modern and spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was good, a buffet of meats, cheese, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and hot options of bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage and beans. At breakfast they asked you what you would like for dinner. Each night there were 3 options meat, fish or vegetarian, they gave you no idea of the starter or sweet and didn’t produce a written menu which i found very strange.
Dinner was a disaster, I opted for the meat option each night. For starters there was a choice of two soups, beef broth every night and one other which was different each night plus a warm starter like a small piece of quiche. The main course was a small poor cut of meat with a bit of sauce, virtually no vegetables or potatoes and was followed by a small sweet, which was difficult to identify. Cheese was not offered at all, very strange for Austria. The main course one night was meat balls and spagetti which was also the warm starter the following day. On the last night the meat option was described as Coq au Vin which turned out to be a small chicken leg with a bit of pasta and a small amount of sauce. I have attached a photo so you can make up your own mind about it, it was awful, so bad I complained to the manager who couldn’t care less. They also flatley refuse to serve you tap water with your meal, despite the fact we purchased pre dinner drinks and had wine and beer with our meal each night. They would only serve mineral water at a staggering €6 per bottle which was dearer than the beer.
This could have an excellent stay which was ruined by the simply awful food, the quality and size of the portions was simply not good enough for. 4 star ski hotel. Despite it’s good points and excellent position I would not stay here again

50 yards from 2 different lifts. Rooms cleaned daily, friendly staff.
Probably the worst hotel food I have had in Austria.
Breakfast passable. No fresh orange juice, no English tea! Small details I know.
Half board evening meal very disappointing. The soup course(no choice) consisted of beef consome 5 days on the run! Bit of pancake, croutons etc thrown in to give a bit of variation!
Main course a bit of meat with sauce with potato or dumpling etc, veg almost no existent. The fish course seemed to consist of the same pearch-pike with slightly different sauces.
Dessert courses choice of two, same every day with superficial variation, one of themabig tray of tasteless mush!
The owners should be ashamed of their so called gourmet restaurant

We paid for half board but ate out as we were offered the same meal of pork 5 times for the evening meal within a week. There were also no vegetarian options with only fish on offer. Quality of the food was also poor.
Also the same starter EVERY night of beef broth.
Room was satisfactory, outdoor pool was nice, location was great but as mentioned in previous reviews this is the only reason it is a 4* hotel.

The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. The rooms are very dated and although clean it would be what one could expect at a 2star hotel. The food however can best be described as 'school dinners'. The main course each day I expect was 'boil in the bag' and if you were not one of the early diners, the desert may have run out. The croissants at breakfast also had a habit of running out.
I heard that there are to be new owners who intend to refurbish the hotel. Hope so as it is in a great location.

I was one of a party of 12 staying in this hotel from 4 January 2020 to 11 January 2020. The hotel is very centrally located for skiing in Saalbach.
The hotel was very accommodating to us , even providing us with a late (11pm) meal as we arrived late. The staff were great. We had a very affable Croatian waiter Peter (or Pio) who was very hospitable and looked after us each morning and evening. We also made friends with the bar tender Christina who was also very hospitable
All our group were very happy with our week skiing and our time staying in the hotel panther.
