Thurnerhof is absolutely the hidden gem in Ski Circus Saalbach, Leogang, Fieberbrung, Vierhofen.

We come to this place for many years already, but the owner definitely is on a mission with a clear vision: relaxing in a luxury setting. Over the years there were many improvements that started with the upgrade of the rooms. They have now done a completely restructure of the whole place. A relaxing area with sauna’s and even a infinity pool we’re added. Out of the pool area you have a clear view without any blockings over the slopes. If heaven exists on earth, this is heaven.

After a nice breakfast including salmon and a glass of Prosecco, the free shuttle brings you to the lift of your choice. You are normally able to ski back to the hotel, but you are also allowed to grab a taxi in the village on cost of the hotel. Although the hotel is on walking distance of Saalbach center and ski busses are available this extra service is making your stay even more comfortable.

With the new chef, dinner is a celebration. A salad bar and a five courses menu that is part of the half board make it a real treat. Wine pairing is possible, but also the numerous gin, cocktails and rums are worth it.

Keeping in mind that the skiing areas is one of the best in Europe, the same with the après-ski, it must be that you create good memories.

Thurnerhof’s staff is making the extra mile. In a relaxed atmosphere the provide service with a smile. Where in some places it feels forced, here you feel that staff just like to give you a great time during holiday.

We will definitely come back as we always do, can’t wait for next year!

The best hotel in Saalbach. Friendly staff, spotless rooms, great wellness. Every day a vast choice of fine food and on top of that a superb shuttle service to and from the skilifts.
We have been visiting this hotel for years and it gets better every time.

We've just returned from Thurnerhof, where we had a really nice one week. First of all, it is a traditional Austrian house, but with a modern inside. It was surprising that they have a lift (elevator), which is not usual in these ski pensions. Room was spacious, had not just a twinbed, but a sofa as well - it is an advantage, when you want to put somewhere your ski clothes after a hard day.. Bathroom is superb! We never saw such nice bathroom in similar ski pensions.
Naturally they had a heated room for ski boots and skis in the basement, and could be entered from outside as well. A large play room with table tennis, console and other stuffs can be also used.
The location is perfect on one hand, as the view to each hills is wonderful, and the house is bit farther from the main streets of the village, so it is quiet. On the other hand, if you want have apres ski too long, you have to get back to the pension somehow. The village and the ski lifts are around 10-15 minutes walk, or few minutes by car. The pension offers a shuttle to the surrounding lifts (Bernkogelbahn, Schattberg Xpress, Kohlmaisbahn etc), so we used that. The grandfather took us to the lifts, and when we called them, he came for us in minutes. Very convenient! We had no problem with it. Once we went to Hinterglemm (as the apres ski is one of the best there, at the lighted slope), we came back with the local bus, as the pension's shuttle is availabe till 17h.
Food is something to mention. Breakfast is typical: ham, sort of cheese, eggs, cornflakes, fruit, jam etc. But the dinner.. wow, that was amazing. Not just the usual Austrian food, something better. We had several first class meals, from veal to household young chicken, or zander (brilliant fish), salmon, sirloin. Every dinner they serve a soup, main course with huge bowl of fresh salad, and a desert. First class!

Last thing to mention is the hospitality. Familie Kröll is a brilliant host, and Thurnerhof is really a family-run business with three generation. They helped us in every question, were smilling all the time, so thank you very much. Danke, danke, danke!
Would recommend them definitely, perfect place!

We've been visitors almost every year since 1999 and experienced the development of Thurnerhof from being a small and simple youth hostel to what it is today, a truly perfect hotel with great service.

It's always been run by the same family and, of course, some additional staff who are always polite and give a great service.

Each year we find something new developed in the hotel. The latest addition, which used to be the biggest deficiency, were the saunas that now complete the services and now there is really nothing more to complain about.

My recommendation is that you should always try to book the 'newer' rooms as they are a lot nicer in design than the older ones, which are still OK.

We've always liked the half board service of the hotel. Both breakfast and the dinner are extensive, the dinner almost always being a menu with a few options for the main dish. We have never had to complain about anything.

The location of the hotel suits us well however some may find it a bit out of Saalbach town. It is a 15 minute walk, not very far but the path leading back to the hotel is quite steep so we usually drive to town (3 minutes).

The hotel is not located close enough to any of the ski slopes but you can literally ski in the hotel at the end of your day through a beautiful mountain trail winding through a pine forest. It is a 10-15 minute ski descent from the nearest slope / Hütte.

There is no ski lifts near enough but in the mornings however you can use the very convenient service of the hotel that they take you to one of the three closest ski lifts with their van or you can descend on your skis to take the ski-bus that stops right at the foot of the hill the hotel is built on.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm (+ Leogang + Fieberbrunn) is an enourmous ski destination with perfect infrastructure and an unmatched atmosphere. We've tried several ski regions both in Austria and France but Saalbach-Hinterglemm is BY FAR the best we've ever seen.

We definitely recommend both the region and the hotel and will definitely stay here again. We tried a few other places to stay in Saalbach-Hinterglemm but always returned here in the end.

Charming small hotel on the outskirts of Saalbach (approximately 1Km).
Courtesy bus provided by the lovely Grandfather to one of the the four main lift stations for the days skiing.
However, the return in late afternoon is a different kettle of fish. On phoning the taxi number provided by the hotel you can be waiting up to 45 minutes for the trip back after an exhausting day on the slopes.

Now the issue of rating this a 1* review.
On checkout my wife was accused of stealing somebody else’s ski poles by the woman/owner/manager.
My wife was shocked & saddened by this and told her that the German guests had taken hers and left the only ski poles in the dry room.
Upon our return after a day on the slopes, the ski poles magically appeared.
We thought that would be the end of this trivial saga….
The manager took the Germans story has they have been returning guests!!!
My wife is an officer of court and would not dare to carry out such a thing.
The woman who is a manager/owner and now a cleaner couldn’t be bothered saying goodbye to us and left some ski poles outside our doorway to make some silly nonsense point.
This is a family run hotel and it shows quite clearly some managerial skills need to be honed in especially the ones who didn’t build up this business from previous generations.

The hardworking general staff are attentive & professional especially Angel a Bulgarian gentleman.

Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2018. The place is simply awesome. The views from our rooms were breathtaking. We had our breakfast and dinners included in our package. The dinners were amazing on all nights. Breakfast However got very monotonous as there was no change in the menu for our entire stay. The staff were very warm towards us and took great care of us throughout our stay. We were travelling with a 2 year old and they were very accommodating of all his needs as well. Highly recommended place to make your base as it's not very far from Zell am See and the grosslockner. Kudos to the entire team at hotel thurnerhof

This place seems to have revised its name since it was first reviewed. Is now calling itself Thurnerhof Hotel-Appartements.

Anyway this was an unexpectedly pleasant stay in this small family run B&B.

Location is on the fringes of Saalbach village on a lovely hilltop. Really beautiful and peaceful. With the windows cracked at night you get lovely sound of a nearby mountain stream rushing down to the river valley. (Long) walking distance to the shops, facilities etc in the village Center, but away from the noise at night. There is a free local bus but we had a car and used that instead.

We took one of their newly renovated hotel room, with half pension. The room was brand new and done in a modern style. Only complaint here is the toilet room had a smell of stale urine. In a brand new room, this has to be down to superficial cleaning by the cleaning crew. Otherwise the room was perfect. Shower room seemed to be properly cleaned.

It seems this is one of a few newly renovated rooms. The others that I got a peek into seemed more traditional.

Meals were excellent and varied . I'd be surprised if you can find better at the restaurants in the area.

They have a sauna that I didn't use. Also a pool/billiards room and a small children's game room with table tennis, a video console and a table football.

Reception desk is not staffed at all times but they cheerfully accommodated our late night arrival and seem to answer the mobile phone if needed.

Overall this was a nice place to stay for a summer visit if you don't need to be at the centre
of the "action " so to speak. Might be different considerations in winter season when you probably wouldn't want to walk as much.

We booked Saalbach a bit late this year, hence staying slightly further out. But we needn't have worried.
The family-run Thurnerhof is a perfect spot for relaxing ski holiday and draws a mix of nationalities and groups. Brits are definitely in the minority (not a bad thing) but everybody was friendly, the atmosphere very relaxed and Herr Kroll (and his extended family) was always around to help with help or advice.
Children are welcome and there are ample places areas downstairs and outside for them to let off steam (wish we'd known this place when ours were younger!) There are new spa/sauna facilities (enjoyed by Mr S) and spacious ski and boot rooms)
The hotel runs a free shuttle service to the three main lifts in time for ski school through until around 10am, then in the evening a local taxi company takes over - free for four people and 5 euro for less than five. You can ski down a long zig zag track through the woods (20+ bends) straight to the chalet, or catch the ski bus - the track up is short but pretty steep (no thanks with skis and boots!) Taxi into the top of town - Spitzbub bar etc - about 10 euros. Walk to the top of town 20-25 (taking it easy)
We all enjoyed the food - good varied breakfast (hot options on request), and very tasty suppers, although not always quite sure what we were going to get with one or two interesting translations in the menu!
We were in the new rooms on the second floor (there is an elevator) which were quiet, very comfy and spacious, lovely new decoration throughout and a balcony overlooking the town - our only gripe, as always, was that we were too hot with big thick duvets and we ended up sleeping with the windows open despite it being absolutely freezing outside. Perhaps it's just us?!

All-in-all a great hotel and I'd definitely recommend it.

Had a lovely week at the Thurnerhof with our family (with 21 and 18 year old children) and assume we were in the new rooms as we had a heated bathroom floor and could even have music in the bathroom! The staff were all very friendly and very helpful, good choice of food with a selection of main course for every evening. Our only criticism was the salad bar had a lot of the different bowls soaked in dressing which left things swimming in it when the bowls got low. Other than that food was of a very good standard and good variety.
Hotel just away from the centre of town but didn't find this a problem as excellent shuttle bus service to slopes if we didn't want to use the car & free taxi back (for 4 people) or a ski run back to hotel. This was our 6th time in Saalbach and first at the Thurnerhof but we hope to come back here again.
