Literally fell across this little gasthof at a crossroads (bus stop just outside) when I was walking along the Zillergrund Valley from Mayrhofen. Had walked for two/two and a half hours and was ready for a little morsel. iew of the mountains on each side.Sitting among the trees in the slightly rough and ready garden with a vThe proprieter (Herr Hausling?) served me up a large sparkling water not in a bottle but in a pint glass. It didn't matter it was icy cold and beautifully sparkling. The Tyrolean Grostl I ordered was served in a frying pan and on this occasion was a mixture of potatoes, onion and roast lamb morsels with a fried egg on top. Wow. Was able to get the hourly bus just outside the door back to Mayrhofen.
I was so impressed with the grostl I went back a second time a few days later and true to the leftovers tradition of the grostl this time the meat content was dominated by bits of bacon although I did find a few bits of lamb. As this made it even tastier I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I did get a surprised look when I asked for a Possibly the grostl usually finishes people off. The strudel was beautiful, more a stewed apple filling than the cubes which sometimes inhabit this beast but no bits of core which is always welcome. Along with another couple of pints of the ice cold sparkling water this passed the time until the bus came.
As an added bonus there was also a lovely little chapel just at the side of the gastof.
