We booked this holiday for 6 with Iglu Ski - please avoid booking with Iglu Ski whilst staying at this hotel as the manager of the hotel will pass all responsibility of the room allocation to Iglu Ski due to the amount that Iglu Ski paid the hotel for the rooms. There is no representative for Iglu Ski in Mayrhofen and they use Crystal Ski who ultimately pass the book to the Hotel Manager or back to Iglu Ski who charged us a substantial amount of money for our 3 rooms. We booked 3 double rooms in January 2022 and requested a quiet area of the hotel. Unfortunately, we were given 3 rooms within the older part of the hotel which is extremely dated and in need of redecoration compared to the rest of the hotel. The rooms allocated were budget rooms on a ?floor that was not quite first or second level in the older area of the hotel directly over/near to the Ice Bar club which is open until 10 pm but noise does carry on outside on the streets and within this area of the hotel much later than this. It is a noisy part of the hotel where anyone from the street could walk into the hotel corridors from the Ice Bar (I witnessed this many times during my stay and my daughter and son both had people knocking on their doors in the early hours during their stay). Upon arrival my husband and I were allocated two single beds that appeared to be the size of a child’s bed and certainly were not fit for a 6ft adult. These beds were fixed to separate walls. When complaining about these rooms to the Manager we immediately got caught up in what appeared to be the politics of buying and selling rooms between Iglu/Crystal ski and the Hotel Manager who admitted at one point in the conversations that she would no longer be dealing with Iglu Ski for bookings due to similar situations which had happened to other customers this year. No real ownership was taken for the poor service we received on arrival having to wait until 5 pm to hear whether all 3 rooms could be changed. In the end only my husband and I were moved to a much nicer part of the hotel. We obviously felt guilty leaving our 2 children and partners in the other end of the hotel and tried our best to have them moved but the hotel manager was not prepared to assist even though at one point she had said she had availability only to take this back the day after as Iglu ski would only upgrade our room. She then said she had a waiting list for the rooms? We were confused by this upgrading talk as we had paid the going rate for the rooms but Iglu ski had obviously charged A LOT of commission and apparently allocated us these budget rooms. NEVER when we have gone on holiday have we been caught up in all of this and it really ruined our first two days having to deal with all of this. At the end of the day this is a business and this very much came across in the manager’s empathy for our situation. Please note the pillows in the hotel are big square lumpy pillows which really are not fit for purpose. We asked for more and received just that, more of the same. Apparently, they were the same in the older part of the hotel too. The best part of staying at this hotel was the experience at meal times and the lovely accommodating staff who served the delicious variety of food in the restaurant in the evening. They could not do enough for you. There again there was two separate food areas in the hotel and one could not help wondering if again this was the rich and the poor part of the hotel! Three of us had a massage in the spa and used the facilities there on a few occasions which was an added bonus to our stay. The spa was pleasant and perhaps a water machine could be suggested in the clothed steam room area as there is no access to water at all up there. Ensure you take your hotel pass or you do not receive a dressing gown, even if you are paying for massages, we had to make do without one on this day due to not having our pass, I am not sure how outsiders get on paying for spa days? The coffee was not great purchased from the machine in the bar area and a kettle in the hotel room would be a lovely touch but again I am not sure if this is due to budget rooms only not having them? The hotel has the perfect location for skiing access right next to the Gondola.…
Lovely hotel, in a perfect position for the Penken gondola. I stayed here in March 2023 with three friends, each in a single room. I had a room in the newly renovated Sport side of the hotel, which was lovely with a rainfall shower and balcony. The room was a bit on the warm side! My friends rooms were in the Strass section of the hotel, which they found comfortable, albeit perhaps in need of renovation soon. They were on the first floor, so could hear the music coming from the Ice Bar below, but this stopped by 10pm each evening so wasn’t a problem. The staff in the hotel were exceptionally friendly, including the lovely bar staff, restaurant, reception, spa and room cleaners. The lobby bar was a comfortable and relaxed place for a pre/post dinner drink or two, and for a ski hotel, the prices were reasonable. There was entertainment in the bar each evening - usually Mark, a great singer and lovely guy who kept us entertained! The hotel spa was great. It’s worth pointing out that the main spa area downstairs is naked. My friends and I didn’t venture down there but used the family friendly area every day and were not disappointed. The food in the hotel was exceptionally good. I am a vegetarian and could not fault the choices. Every meal was delicious and the desserts were divine. A real highlight of our trip was the ski guiding with Stocky. I cannot recommend this highly enough! (Stocky also DJs in the bar a couple of nights a week, and I think is probably a bit of a local legend!). Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and am considering booking again already.…
Just came back from a wonderful stay ! From the time we were checked in it was perfect. Breakfast was self service and consisted of all the usual- Eggs Bacon cereals cold meats cheeses etc . A selection of breads and croissants too. Dinner was 5 courses, help yourself salad bar, soup and breads . All of a high standard. Our waiter Meehi was very attentive and a lovely chap. We had one of the newer rooms which was beautiful, very big and spacious. Maybe a little warm if I could pick fault. We used the Spa which was NO extra cost and this to was very well run and glorious! A must if you can get to it . Location wise you could not get nearer to the Penken lift . All in all a perfect choice. Thank you for our stay
I am tempted to say this was terrible but upgrading to poor based on the spa center (which I now believe has an extra charge). We stayed in the rooms across the skywalk, which is part of the same hotel. However, from arrival, we were threated like second class guests. We were told not to use main reception as it is completely separate hotel (yet we used the spa, their bar for breakfast, and its the same building). The reception on our side was simply a chair and tiny desk just thown in a hall, which never had anyone sitting there, just had a phone number to call. We booked a twin room and got a double bed with two single mattresses which could not be parted. We arrived after 10pm and there was not so much as a bottle of water or any food when we arrived. A plate of cold meat, fruit or bread would have been basic. The breakfast was served in the bar of the hotel Strass - I can only describe it as terrible. The coffee was tar, and the food was worse than what I would imagine you could get in prison. Despite it being included, we opted to go out for breakfast. I imagine the first class in the main building had a better breakfast in the dining room. The room itself was in a very noisy location and the door to balcony had a poor lock. Bathroom was falling apart and this whole place has not seen attention is over 10years. Cleaners were supposed to come in daily to do basics even if card was not on the door. I left a towel on the floor to replace and it took 3 days. Despite being there for 1 week, only got towel replaced ONCE. Pillow and bedding was terrible, once you put your head on the pillow it was thin as a shirt, got a second one and doubled up it was still the same. The only thing positive about this whole experience was the location and the spa…
We stayed at the Strass from 31.12.22 to 07.01.23. I will start by saying that on the first day on the slopes I had an accident and ended up injured 🤦🏼♀️ the staff were absolutely fantastic, always asking if I was ok and if I needed anything - which I am truly thankful for! We stayed in room 1403 which is one of the newly renovated rooms, which was exceptionally clean and comfortable - maybe a little too warm, however we slept with the balcony door slightly open. The room was a good size - two twin beds pushed together for us. Towels were changed as needed, however some days we opted for our room not to be cleaned (trying to be a bit eco friendly!!) We stayed on a half board basis, the breakfast was served as a buffet with plenty of choice. In the evening there is a 4 course meal, which you choose the day before. All meals were cooked well, as expected, and presented nicely on the plates. There is a buffet for salad and bread. Our Waiter - Zuris (sorry I can't remember) was great, a lovely chap with a good memory too! All of the staff in the restaurant were lovely, service with a smile! The Spa was one of the best I've been too in a hotel, a number of different saunas and steam rooms. Robes and towels are available from the spa reception. Location was fab, next door to the Penkenbahn gondola! Lockers are available in the hotel to store ski gear, as well as being able to store this at the Penken too. The only criticisms I have - there's no tea/coffee making facilities within the room, there was also no fridge. It would have also been nice to see some afternoon snacks on offer, such as pastries and cookies. However, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return and recommend 🥰 …
Brought my misses here as a surprise valentines day gift. Did not disappoint! She's never been skiing before so having a good hotel was super important as we weren't always on the slopes. We both loved the sauna and pool onsite and the bars we're very comfortable with the really good food. We had the 5 course meal one night and it was awesome. Highly recommend!
We visited the Strass last week and wow. One of the best hotels on the mountain side, the food was exceptional and the rooms were 10/10 plus your right next to the lifts. Has a après ski bar called the ICE BAR where we spent a good couple of hours after we'd finished for the day. This place has a gym, sauna and pool which were all put to good use by us and really made the downtime fly by. They also had a musician, mark, on while we were there which made for a good place to chill out. Overall, faultless. The place to be in Mayrhofen.
We had a corner room with a beautiful view. Food was lovely, couldn't fault it. Rooms were clean and spacious enough for us, balcony overlooking the town and mountains was wonderful. So much to do in the area, we hired bikes, went white water rafting and did tandem paragliding. All in all a wonderful trip and excellent hotel.
My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful skiing holiday where we stayed at the Strass. I can only recommend it to anyone to me it’s the best for location, facilities, food and Entertainment yes live Entertainment! All top notch. The spa area is Amazing also. Definitely on my list of places to return to in the near future.
Another wonderful five day stay at one of my favourite hotels. Luxurious room, friendly staff, great food and some of the best views in Austria! A day spent in the Wellness and Sauna area and a massage left us perfectly relaxed to enjoy our stay…and the weather was perfect!
