We have skied in this area a few times but this was our first time staying at the Strass, booked with Crystals. The hotel is large and has good facilities, it’s right next to the lift station which is great for getting onto the slopes in the morning. Our room was in the quieter side of the hotel which was good. Food was ok and staff friendly. Best part is the spa which is huge and we paid to use the private spa pool which was worth it. The resort closed a couple of days after we left due to Covid so it was a slightly odd week but that of course wasn’t the hotels fault.
We stayed at this hotel as a couple and Would highly recommend staying here , We were looked after from start to finish by the staff and location of the hotel is Great too ! We came to Mayrhofen for a Snowboarding trip and this hotel was Great , located a few metres away from the Penken gondola and has bus stop for lifts to Ahorn ( is only a 5 min walk too ). Transfer from Innsbruck is just over an hour and a quick check in at hotel then straight to the room we had a room on the 4th floor and room had everything you need, had big bathroom and had a balcony ( were we stored our snowboards ) there is also a locker room in the basement off hotel !!! Breakfast and Dinners were in the main dining area and the Staff were Amazing , couldn’t have helped anymore if they tried and really friendly ! There’s a bar and sports bar in the hotel also and for a big hotel these were both easy to get drinks from The hotel also has a Spa area , Two Spa areas as one adults only !!! I have been to Mayrhofen a few times and would definitely return to this hotel…
This was our 3rd time here , and again we had a brilliant time . Alex ( and his girlfriend Sive?) , Babs and Willem looking after all our alcohol needs :) Pillows still too soft but we brought our own this time ;) We did feel the food quality had slipped a bit compared to the last couple of years we have visited but in my opinion still one of the best hotels in Mayrhofen and we will no doubt be back next year Another plus point is the sports bar is now smoke free which has made a big difference. Keep up the good work and hopefully see you all again next year. The 3 Glaswegians :)
Stayed at the Sporthotel Strass as part of a package with Crystal Ski. We were booked in the Sport part of the hotel, some rooms have been refurbished but our room hadn't, but this is because we had requested a bath through our travel company. Our room was on the 2nd floor above reception. The room was a great size which included a seating area, a single bed and big wardrobes for storage. The Hotel could do with updating their pillows as they are flat as a pancake, we did request some extra ones but these were just as soft. The balcony was great, we could see the mountains, the Penken Gondolas going up and down and it got the afternoon sun. On the 1st night the room was really hot and had to open the window, unfortunately there was a lot of noise coming from the Ice Bar and the street, so we had to close it again, which meant a very disturbed sleep on our 1st night, it got better as the week went on. The Spa area is great, there is a clothed area with a Swimming Pool, Whirlpool area, Sauna and Steam Room. There is a very nude area downstairs with lots of different saunas etc which is mainly used by men. Please be aware you need to a pay a deposit for your dressing gowns at reception on arrival. Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice although missing Pancakes or Waffles as an option (have had this at previous hotels). We were staying on a half board package so evening meals we included. Evening meals are okay if a little fancy, at previous hotels we have had themed buffet nights (Local, Italian, BBQ) but Hotel Strass doesn't do this, there is a Salad Buffet, then 3 different options as a main and 1 choice for dessert. We didn't fancy anything from the menu on the last night so went out to one of the local restaurants. Our server (a lovely dark haired girl from England) was very helpful and always had a smile on her face. There is a boot room in the basement of the hotel, there is lockers for Skis and Snowboards, and plenty of room on the racks heating up boots. The boot room can be quite crowded and hot at peak times, The hotel is just a short walk from the Penken gondala and the Ahorn Mountain is a 10 minute walk or you can hop onto the town buses if you don't fancy the walk. Possibly coming back to Mayrhofen next year. Would stay at Sporthotel Strass again as the Staff are fab, they couldn't do enough for you, in the centre of town and close to the main gondola station. But would maybe request a room at the back of the hotel or on a higher floor as these would be quieter.…
What a fantastic hotel well placed in town with super friendly staff. The wellness centre and the free skii guiding are the best that I have experienced. Will definitely be back. Not even the Coronavirus could dampen my spirits
