The Bavarian Inn was a delightful surprise! Its prime location in the Black Hills made exploring nearby attractions a breeze. The clean and inviting indoor pool was a huge hit with the kids, and the ample supply of towels was a convenient bonus. The staff was friendly and accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere. While we didn't use the on-site safe, we did enjoy the reasonably priced and tasty food. The folks that run this establishment really thought of everything! My wife greatly appreciated the abundance of fluffy towels, black makeup towel, TWO luggage racks, and the closet organizer. We patronized the neighboring café nearly every morning for hearty breakfast sandwiches to get us through to lunch.

Nearby attractions include Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and the Needles Highway. We especially enjoyed the town of Deadwood which is about 90 minutes north.

Overall, our stay at the Bavarian Inn was a refreshing change from the typical chain hotel experience. We would definitely return!

We stayed one night, on our way through town. Wish we could have stayed longer! The rooms are very clean and nicely appointed, if a bit small. We even had our own private patio with French door access. Bed was very comfortable. The place has it all! It's located on the top of a hill, and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There are both indoor and outdoor pools (and a hot tub indoors), as well as corn hole sets, pickleball court, basketball court, board games, and so much more. Off the lobby is a darling lounge/seating area, where they have a "cookie happy hour" each afternoon. There are also soft drinks to purchase and a "F'Real" milkshake maker you can use. There are washing machines (free to use) and dryers ($1.25) for laundry, and they even provide complimentary detergent and dryer sheets. There is a restaurant on site but it's only open for breakfast and we didn't get to try it (arrived too late and left too early.) It's about a 10 minute walk to the main street in Custer (slightly longer to walk back, since it's uphill.) Much better than the other options in town. Great for couples and families.

This was my second stay at this charming motel and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. It’s in a great location to access the must-see Black Hills sites.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The grounds are great with wooded areas, lovely patio, pickle ball court, basketball hoop and outdoor pool. There’s also an indoor pool. The cookies and milk happy hour was a daily highlight for my granddaughter and me.

The staff was outstanding and made sure we felt at home and had everything we needed. When the keycard reader for our son’s room stopped working, a technician quickly came, replaced the batteries and reprogrammed the reader within 30 minutes. Every staff person we encountered during our stay was friendly and provided excellent service.

The Feel Good Cafe is just steps away and offers delicious, quick service breakfasts at reasonable prices.

Overall, a delightful experience!

We were pleased to have booked a suite with a “full kitchen” at this highly-rated hotel. The suite was clean, spacious and well-stocked with towels. Although the hotel is located along a busy road, we found it to be quiet. We appreciated the (free!) machines in the laundry room, complete with detergent and dryer sheets.

There were some pots/pans in the kitchen and many nice plates, bowls and mugs. There were a few mis-matched forks, knives and spoons. We were quite surprised to discover that the kitchen did not have any beverage glasses of any type - only plastic and paper cups. There was no kettle for boiling water.

Be aware that the hotel does not provide dish soap for handwashing the dishes (no dishwasher, which was fine). As a result, we obtained some dish soap and washed all the dishes/utensils that we planned to use over several days, since we had no idea how/if previous guests had washed them.

The heating in the room is via floor-level heaters that do not have fans, so it took MANY hours to heat the room (overnight temps in the 30s).

The bathroom sink barely drained. This was reported on the second day but never fixed.

We had multiple questions/"issues" that we reported to the front desk. Each of the three people we encountered: didn't believe what we were saying; or gave us incorrect information; or were not helpful. Unfortunately, those encounters resulted in a frustrating stay. But the hotel was otherwise OK and well-located for our sightseeing plans.

My friend and I stayed here the first couple nights of our road trip and we wish it had been our last day because we thoroughly enjoyed this charming motel. The beds were amazing and the laundry facilities are free to use.I loved that you could still get housekeeping service without needing anyone to go into your room by filling out a little check sheet of what you needed restocked and placing it outside your door in the laundry basket. There are a bunch of board games in the motel lobby that you can check out and take with you back to your room.

The only small quibble my friend and I had about the place is the patio furniture placed outside every room. We were on the second floor and it is hard to maneuver your luggage around the furniture, especially when other guests are occupying them and don’t move, as there is not much space on the walkway.

This is was our second stay. Room 103. Deluxe double Queen room. Good size room, plenty of room to navigate around the beds.
This room has a rectangular glass top table with a side chair rather than an office chair so I had to use a couple of pillows to make it comfortable for work. Mouse didn’t work on the glass table top, you’d need a mouse pad but we made do with the menu as a buffer.

Beds are firm but have a cushioned top so they’re quite comfortable. Soft pillows, so if you need firm you’ll want your own. Linens are good, better than standard. Towels are not luxury, but they are bath sheets and better than standard. Toiletries are also better than average. Shower/tub is older but sufficient. All the other ammenities definitely compensate for this.

Tons of amenities: indoor pool and hot tub good sized and are well maintained. Outdoor patio with chairs and tables and a fireplace. There’s also a deck on off the hot tub area with more seating. There is seating in the lobby area with a fire place and a side area with books and games. They also serve really good free chocolate chip cookies and milk every afternoon. You also have the option of purchasing cookie service to deliver to your room. You can also order Kuchen that will be placed in your rooms fridge before you arrive. It’s worth the price.

There a kids playground, a seasonal outdoor pool, basketball and pickleball courts. I loved the hammock and the giant chess game. There are a few other outdoor activities to find as you explore the property. I would love to bring my grandchildren here for a visit… they would absolutely love it!

Staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive. Everyone from front desk, housekeeping and grounds/maintenance is friendly and actually care about the quality of your stay. Your stay here is worth every penny.

This is the 4th time staying at the Bavarian Inn and it has not disappoint.

The rooms are nice and come with various amenities and can provide extra if needed (like shampoo, towels, etc). We stayed in a 2 queen bed room and there was ample space. The room does have a TV, Micro-Fridge, Microwave, and a table and chairs. The room was cooled by an air conditioning unit and it will cool the room down if concerned this will not be the case. The doors to your room (on the first floor) do have privacy curtains and blinds.

Cookies and milk is offered around 3:30 every day. Which is a great treat. You can also order this as room service and will warm the cookies up and serve with two cups of milk.

There are two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. I have only been to the indoor pool and the water is not freezing, but cool enough to easily slip into and not be shaking when you come out. There is a hot tub that is nice and refreshing.

Throughout the area are seating for relaxation, board games to play, and just spots to hang out in.

The one thing no longer available is the free morning breakfast and drinks (coffee, milk, etc). But they do have a much better selection at the Feel Good Cafe

A shot out to Fiona who made our stay memorable and exceptional service. Thanks!

This is the best most charming inn I have ever stayed at. There are multiple advantages to staying here. Onsite there have a laundry room with multiple washers and dryers for use free of charge. They also provide the detergent and fabric softener. In the back, there are two charging stations for EV visitors. The amenities include a pickleball court, a half court basketball court, and two swimming pools. Most of all, it is just a 3 minute drive into downtown Custer. I will definitely have to visit here again!

Out of the 4 hotels that we stayed in this past week, my daughter said this was the most comfortable for her. The extra sleeping area in the suite was nicely done with extremely comfortable bed linens. The hotel is quaint but clean with a very nice heated pool/hot tub area. The start of the show for this place though was their breakfast spot (not included in your stay) on property. They have everything from over night oats with chia seeds and fruit to huge breakfast croissants all extremely reasonably priced. So even if you don’t stay here, be sure to stop in for breakfast. Oh and their pastry cabinet of SD state desserts is amazing! All house made!
My only negative for our stay was that the room didn’t have darkening shades and it was extremely bright at night due to the parking lot lighting. That being said, we would stay here again!

In a world of poor customer service this place positively shines! We havent had such a pleasant stay in a long time! Every staff member top to bottom was so lovely and welcoming!
We were traveling with our two kids and dog and we were all made to feel so welcome and accommodated. The room was impeccably clean and the bed and pillows were amazing! The shower was extra hot and air conditioning worked really well. The complimentary products were great and smelled amazing. One of the employees was so kind and took it upon herself to bring us extra for my daughter’s long curly hair. The kids had such a blast trying out all of the extra amenities and the pup was welcomed into every space (and even got treats!)
We were accidentally skipped for service one day, which was no big deal except we needed toilet paper. When we asked one of the employees for some he was so apologetic and rushed to correct the oversight. Later that evening, there was a knock at the door and we received a surprise room service delivery of milk and warm cookies as an apology. The kids were so excited! It was such a nice gesture!
We ate at the cafe every morning and it was delicious! Half of our family needs gluten free food due to celiac and the employees were so careful with our meals. Didn’t get sick once!
Overall such an amazing stay!
