We booked a 2-queen bed suite at this hotel. This turned out to be a long, narrow room with a balcony. Starting from the door there's a bathroom, fridge/microwave/Keurig area, small living room with couch and TV, 2 beds and a desk with a second TV, chair, and a door to the balcony. Overall, it was a spacious room with a lot of flat surfaces for luggage, and hooks for backpacks or jackets. The bathroom was nice and had eco-friendly soap dispensers. The private balcony faced a water feature and was pleasant to hang out on, although it got very hot in the afternoon; reserve a room with a balcony facing the city instead if this would bother you. The hotel has a large lobby downstairs, outdoor seating with a fire pit, only one (slow) elevator, and 3 staircases. There are 2 laundry rooms, each with 4 machines. Daily housekeeping is still suspended, so you can leave used towels and trash outside your room for pickup if needed, and get fresh supplies at the front desk. Breakfast is pretty basic with the welcome addition of cinnamon rolls and a pancake maker. We really enjoyed our stay here.…
only hotel in five that actually had done all the precautions we asked for. Husband has bad lungs, manufactured scents sets his asthma off. we have to make sure all fragrances are removed. They did it!!!!!!!!! extremely clean, staff helpful. even the pool area was extremely clean with a full hotel. my only complaint could be a hard bed. if it was closer we would use for a weekend getaway.
Alex at check in was very friendly and got me into my room a bit early, which was helpful because we had a wedding to get ready for. Hotel grounds are very manicured. Lobby stylish, spacious and clean. I did get some snacks from the little store, just the usual options. Room was clean, bed and pillows comfortable. The only downside was the breakfast - food was just awful and most options were just gone and not refilled. The breakfast staff just looked they didn't care as they walked around. Very disappointing as Holiday Inns usually have a good, quality breakfast.
Probably the best hotel in Custer. Relatively new property (I think). Good front desk staff. Good location for Custer. If you are traveling to see Mt. Rushmore, this is likely best hotel in reasonably close proximity to Mt. Rushmore.
Typical Holiday Inn Express. Clean room nice facilities. My only complaint was the breakfast. Late every morning of my visit. Asked one of the two breakfast staff ladies where something was and got the hitchhiker thumb in the general direction of the item and a scowl without a word or smile. The two women were very unpleasant. Need some talking to by the boss in my opinion. Other than that the place is great.
Centrally located near the Black Hills and Custer State Park, this hotel is comfortable, clean, and enjoyable. Stayed for two nights and it was a perfect “home base” for our activities. Complimentary breakfast with room temp and hot options. Would gladly stay again!
The room smelled bad, like bad body odor and pickle juice mixed. We were told when we checked in that they don't clean every day. Okay, no biggie, but it got to be 5 days and still no cleaning of the room?? Save your money, go to a different Holiday Inn. We will not be back here again. The room we had was not set up well for older people - no grab bars in the bathroom by the toilet, etc, no exhaust fan in the bathroom. This was supposed to be our vacation and it was not a restful one with the people above us stomping around all hours of the night. We definitely will never stay at this place again.
We planned 3 nights in what was supposed to be a King suite. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready in spite of checking in well over an hour after check-in time. The room was clean, but was configured so there was an uncomfortable sofa sleeper and chair in one chamber but they seemed to be placed there as an afterthought. The room with the king bed was comfortable enough and had a nice balcony. There was no indication on the hotel chain website that there was no daily housekeeping services. We've stayed many places that indicate they are taking guest safety seriously due to COVID, but they still provide daily towels at the very least. We weren't too happy to find when we checked in that there was no daily housekeeping service. If it had been clearly disclosed on the site that there was no daily housekeeping, we would either have stayed elsewhere or planned our trip for a different year.…
This central location is perfect for visits to Mount Rushmore, Hot Springs, and Custer State Park as well as traveling the Wilderness Loop Road, Iron Mountain Road, and Needles Highway. Linens were clean and rooms were clean and spacious with 9-foot ceilings (even in bathrooms). If you plan to do Needles Highway or Iron Mt Road earlier in the morning to avoid the crowds, don’t count on breakfast before you leave. Breakfast starts at 6:30 and the coffee was not made ahead of that time and ran out by 7am. Very sluggish breakfast help. and no fruit or pastries ready ahead of time. There is a very nice backyard patio with a beautiful waterfall feature with tables and chairs for outdoor dining and relaxing. The ambiance was sacrificed a bit because the waterfall leaked all over the patio stone floors. No one ever cleaned this common area during our three-night stay. Hot tub was nice but chemicals in it made me cough when jets were activated.…
Probably the best HIE I've ever stayed in. Great location. Staff is helpful and professional. Facilities are beautiful and well kept. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area. Room and bath were great.
