This property was in a great location – within walking distance of the French Quarter, the World War II Museum and many other attractions. The staff was mostly friendly, though there were a few that were fairly disinterested, and a couple looked a bit disheveled. The hotel itself needs some attention, despite looking to be relatively new. The first issue arose when we requested a luggage rack for our room and were told they didn’t have any. A hotel without luggage racks – really?!!?! The Wi-Fi was unsecured, which wasn’t great. Sheets and pillowcases on our bed had holes and were ripped. The towels were thin and scratchy and put on the towel bars inside out. The shower leaked and all of the mirrors in the room and the bath were dirty. The bathroom set-up was awful. There was no door between the sink and the bedroom, so if someone was using the sink, the other person was disturbed and there was no privacy. In addition, the location of the bathroom door was terrible – anyone at the sink would get hit by it if someone else wanted to enter the bathroom. The carpet was fraying where it met the sink area tile and there was a sharp edge where the tile met the carpeting – glad we didn’t cut ourselves on it. The change of sheets I requested didn’t happen and for 2 days in a row I had to call to get washcloths because housekeeping didn’t leave any. They did, however, leave me a wet and used box of soap. And the door to the room itself was so heavy I could barely open it. Breakfast was fine – the usual Fairfield fare. One morning I found a big clump of hair and dust hanging from the bottom of our table – very appetizing. The breakfast attendant was very nice and friendly and seemed to keep things stocked well. With a little more attention to detail this could be a really nice property, especially with its great location.

When making the reservation weeks in advance and again at check-in, I asked for a quieter room, away from the elevators. The front desk person completely disregarded this request and put us in a room facing Baronne Str. The window in the room was a single pane and even though we were on the 4th floor, it was as though we were at ground level. The street noise was overwhelming. The worst night was on a Friday when a block party outside on the street lasted until almost 5am. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable; pillows flat with no support. Rooms a tight fit for a family of 4, even in the double queen room we had. Buffet breakfast was OK, at least the room was quite large and we found a table every morning. The staff responsible for the dining area were very friendly and helpful. Walls in the rooms are thin and my 15 year old woke in the night and heard someone in a nearby room vomiting. Housekeeping came regularly, the room looked fairly clean. It was a short walk from the hotel to the French Quarter, but the area around Canal street to get there was quite sketchy. We avoided walking after dark. This was our first time to New Orleans and if we were to ever return, I would not choose this hotel to stay. Too many cons, not enough pluses. Overpriced and lack of quality.

This hotel is very old, and has a marvelous history. The location is just far enough away from the madness of New Orleans but close enough for walking through the heart of the French Quarter. The breakfast offerings were wonderful, the staff was great for helping us find our way around. Although the hallways looked rough the room was fabulously large and comfortable! We would definitely consider this hotel if we were back in the area.

Room Tip: not sure but we were on the 5th floor and it was fine. Not a great view but we didn't care.

This property is located a short walk from the French Quarter, only a block farther than. the Aloft on the same street (Baronne). My top floor (7) king bed room was spacious, and offered a lot of power outlets: 2 x AC and 2 x USB at the desk, and more at the bedside tables. The shower was a good size and there was a lot of horizontal space by the vanity. The TV was large and offered several HBO & Showtime channels for free. There was a small refrigerator and mini microwave. The free breakfast was typical for a Fairfield Inn.
