We stayed at the Royal Sonesta for 2 days and I was quoted a daily price on the phone. I had this price double-checked by calling the hotel front desk as well. The first room we were put in was very dirty, there was visible dirt under the sink (by visible I mean it hadn't been cleaned in a long time), there were stains all over the back of the bathroom door, and the molding was loaded with dirt. We requested a room change and we were promptly given a new room. This room was an improvement over the first room but still not something you'd expect for this hotel. It was still dirty, the blankets had stains on them, as did many of the towels. There were visible signs of dried vomit on the wall in the bathroom and it just didn't feel clean. The beds were not comfortable at all and very lumpy. When I checked out I was told my bill would be emailed to me. I didn't receive it until 4 days later after calling back again for the bill. When I received my bill it was much higher than I was told numerous times. They said it was due to the weekend rate change (Friday night stay). This should have been conveyed by the person on the phone and the front desk when we spoke to them as well as when we checked in. At checkout, you should either get the email before checking out or provide a run down when at the desk. I was told that I would not be given the price I was quoted and they said it was a training issue. This is a horrible way to handle a situation where the customer wasn't given the information. I am a personal travel agent and was scouting places for my clients, this will never be a place I recommend due to their lack of communication and cleanliness. Don't get me wrong the hotel itself is beautiful, but the rooms need a deep cleaning and booking staff trained.

Hotel's Favorite
I love staying at the Royal Sonesta and have stayed there several times. Our family all met up there recently and had a total of four rooms. The staff were all so great in meeting our needs. The location is great even though I’m not into the Bourbon Street scene. (Ask for a room on the sixth or seventh floor if you want to avoid the Bourbon Street noise) All the great restaurants are in walking distance and the hotel’s Desire Oyster Bar offers a good diverse menu for any meal. The Jazz Playhouse provides live entertainment and the Le Booze’ bar is a good place to get a drink and watch the parade of characters walking by on Bourbon Street.

The location of the hotel was fantastic as I wanted to be based in the French quarter and close to Bourbon Street. Our arrival was handled efficiently, and we found our room to be spacious and clean. The bed was really comfortable and was overlooking the courtyard so we did not get disturbed by any of the noise from Bourbon street. The room was cleaned, even though I was under the impression there would be no cleaning due to covid, so this was a nice surprise. Disliked · Although the bathroom was clean, the shower could have done with a new curtain. I also asked for assistance to book a restaurant, but the concierge said they could not do this and I should call from my own phone; being from the UK, I was not willing to spend a fortune calling for a reservation.

We stayed in a room with a balcony on Bourbon Street and we slept very little because of the extreme loudness until 5 AM! We asked to change to a quieter room and they were very nice and moved us. It's a nicer, much quieter room and we're looking forward to a nice stay for the rest of our trip.

I checked into a "Two Bedroom Interior Balcony Suite." At check in I was told it was a king and two queens. I asked the agent to double check that, because the online description said 2 Kings ("The parlor includes two connecting bedrooms, each one featuring a king size bed with a pillow top mattress."). I was told the two queens was correct. This isn't a huge deal for our trip, although my wife and I are now either sleeping in separate beds or crowded for our stay. I also requested coffee service via room service this morning from Desire, but was told they were too busy for that. I reached out to Sonesta using the online form, but have received no response. Unfortunately this isn't the first time we have experienced all of these same issues here. We very much want it to be our Nola home, but they just fail to deliver on customer service. The location is great, but don't expect your room to match the description or any real service. We will be seeking alternatives on our next trip. Show quoted text
