Beautiful historic hotel. Loved our stay, the rooms were lovely and very plush. Beds were comfortable and the whole hotel is well cared for. Public transport at the door, the trams were great fun and so cheap. Easy access to explore the rest of New Orleans. Grocery store and fantastic restaurants close by. Excellent value for money, can't wait to... More

Lovely 100 year old hotel. Beautifully preserved. Comfortable beds. Cozy rooms. Polite staff. Only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 out of 5 was that the parking was either metered or valet. Very expensive. I thought we were getting an amazing deal on the room but didn't realize till we arrived that the parking was extra. So it was... More

We were two couples traveling together, and we both booked balcony rooms. Ours was a nice-sized room with two queen beds while the other couple's room was pretty small with one king bed. Their bathroom was larger than ours, but I think our room was still larger overall. Our balconies were on the street side, and on the second story.... More

First, let's get the bad news out of the way. The lobby is ugly and non-existent to speak of, so if you like to lounge in an expansive, luxurious lobby, go elsewhere. Also, I would agree to some extent with my fellow reviewer GSO-Mike that some additional customer service skills might help an otherwise nice stay. When we entered the... More

The staff at the hotel was wonderful! We checked out, left town and made a U turn to go back for one more night! The atmosphere was one of elegance. We felt like we were back in time with a modern twist. The coffee was wonderful in the room as well. Lastly, so many hotels have terrible water pressure and... More

I'm a New Orleans Saints fan. We come to town to see a game at least once a year and end up staying at the Lafayette. Many times over the last 15 years. Things were not good there for a while, thought I'd have to find a new place. But they have remodeled some bathrooms and put in flat screen... More

I recently stayed at the Lafayette for a quick one night layover. The area is terrific, right next to Lafayette Park and on the St. Charles streetcar line. It is very safe area, convenient to the French Quarter without the noise and party atmosphere. I had an exceptional room, very large with an entire wall of windows overlooking the park... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
