If you want to experience the charm and hospitality of New Orleans this is the place. The hotel is a colonial style building furnished with period pieces but not lacking in modern comforts. Located between the French Quarter and Frenchman's Street, it is within walking distance and/or a short trolley ride to attractions, yet since it is on the edge... More

Great to have a nice refreshing pool to use available during the hot months. Great location just outside of the French Quarter and steps from Frenchman Street and all sorts of live bands, especially jazz.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were excellent, clean and that AC keeps nice and cool. Their pool is great as well, saline so you don't get all dried up. Mostly couples and groups around their 30's, the vibe was fun and laid back. Will be back if I can score those great off season rates again!

Erica is AMAZING but there is another man that also works in the front office who is terribly unkind. Made me feel unwelcome. I asked for shower towels and he told me to go outside and check the pool towels. I thought that was weird since the pool towels aren't the same but did so anyways. There were none there... More

Reservations and check-in/out were smooth. Staff members were friendly. Room/s (antique double suite) was spacious and had charm. Pool and whirlpool and surrounding courtyard were well-maintained and enjoyable. The location was even better than I anticipated, with easy walking to French Market, the Mint, French Quarter and Frenchmen Street. The only (small) negative: the hotel parking lot had quite a... Having wanted to visit New Orleans for the better part of a decade, this house was exactly what I wanted. It's in walking distance to the main attractions of the French quarter and looks pretty authentic. It could use some maintenance, but we couldn't work out if perhaps the place was so old that a few little things like doors... More

We arrived in the evening to music coming from Frenchman Street. It was magical! The music was not too loud and stopped at a reasonable hour so that you could get a nice night's sleep. The courtyard was nice as was the pool. It is salt water but not as strong as the ocean. The rooms were simple but very... More

My wife and I have visited NOLA half a dozen times as a couple, but this time we brought our teen kids- ages 15 and 18. We had a family room on the first floor, right below the second floor office. The building and our room were beautiful. If a historic, antique filled atmosphere are what you like, then this... More

This hotel is tucked in on a row of other houses, but it was easy to find. You walk in and are instantly in another world! The entry is all marble and wood and old world elegance. Two sets of stairs lead to the small check-in desk on the second floor. The gentleman who met us on our first night... More

Great room, quiet, black out curtains, good a/ c, comfy bed and pillows, quality sheets. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pool is salt water and a great bonus. We met many fun people during afternoon or early evening breaks in the pool. The location to Frenchmen street is fantastic and just a short walk to crazy Boirbon street. Good restaurants... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, the ornate architectural detail of the past meets modern comfort and convenience in our restoration of the historic Lamothe House hotel. Featuring an elaborate courtyard accented by mature landscaping, a garden pond, and a refreshing pool, peace and relaxation are just steps away from the thrill the Crescent City has to offer. In addition to 30 guest rooms refinished in traditional style, five Grand Antique Suites have been preserved from the original 1839 construction of the home of Jean Lamothe, a wealthy sugar cane planter of French descent. Furnished with antique furniture & artwork, the detail and charm that exemplifies old New Orleans is accessible to today’s traveler. Not to be overlooked is the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood the Lamothe House calls home. Here visitors will find Frenchmen Street, often referred to as “the local’s Bourbon Street”, which features some of the best local music and cuisine found in the French Quarter.Whether it’s your first or your next visit to the Big Easy, find the authentic New Orleans experience you are searching for at the Lamothe House. ... more   less
