Built in 1896, the original house being destroyed in the Great Fire of Algiers in 1895, this charming, relaxed "shotgun double" style cottage is nestled within the beautiful Algiers Point Historic District, a short, 8-minute walk from the $2 ferry ($1 for seniors) to the French Quarter, Convention Center, etc. This three bedroom B&B features 11 foot ceilings, hardwood floors, eclectic decor and private bathrooms for each guest room. Enjoy a free welcome drink in "Jelly Roll's Jumpin' Juke Joint" (our covered back porch) or relax there in the evening on the swing bench with a glass of wine or local beer. A healthy breakfast is provided each morning. A delight for Blues and Jazz fans! Visit our local bars, restaurants, coffee shops and stores and mix with the friendly locals. Or walk, jog, cycle, run along the Mississippi River levee and enjoy the most spectacular view of the French Quarter, day and night. Come and slip back in time in New Orleans' best kept secret - Algiers Point.

We had never been to Mardi Gras or New Orleans previously and were unprepared for the wonderful experience that awaited us. The B&B sits 5 minutes walk from the ferry across the Mississippi which takes less than 10 minutes into the heart of the French Quarter and the hub of the streetcars. Ferries are on the half hour and more frequent at the peak of Mardi Gras. Algiers Point itself is a delight with an English pub, coffee shops, glass blowing factory and much more to gree the weary traveller on his return from the French Quarter or any of the other NO districts. Kevin our British host, a veteran of 30 years living there is always ready to provide good advice on the parades, restaurants, walks, local car hire and has written guided walks on the Algiers Point location. Beds, super comfy, showers powerful and great fruity breakfasts. Each room is music themed. We stayed in the Memphis Minnie. Co-host Wendy, a local is also on hand with even more suggestions and their dog Otis is a pure delight and a real character. We wanted to take him home with us. Possibly the best holiday we have ever experienced! How about that for a recommendation.

We came to New Orleans for a wedding, and we decided to stay somewhere different. What we found is that Algiers Point is definitely a gem. Kevin whips up a wonderful breakfast, and Boudin is immediately a friend. The house was clean and comfortable. My favorite part of the house was the back porch - perfect spot for coffee in the morning or a beer in the evening. Just like the website says, there is plenty to do within walking distance of the house. Also, the French Quarter is just a ferry ride across the river. Stay here and expect to have a wonderful time.

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast and we loved it. The room was just as pictured on their website; clean and comfy. The house is lovely. Breakfast was delicious. I booked directly through their website with no problems. We can’t wait to go back for another visit to historic Algiers Point.

This is my second stay at the Rising Sun b&b for Mardis Gras. I was invited to join my wonderful hosts Kevin & Wendy to join them, their other guests and friends on Mardis Gras Day for their annual 'saunter' down Royal Street and through the French Quarter. Every year they have a costume theme and this year it was 'cocktails, ....how suitable for New Orleans! They were also kind enough to invite me to their .'Bacchus Sunday Brunch' at the Rib Room restaurant which was great fun! A fantastic buffet and all the champagne I could drink for about $65. They had a jazz band wandering from table to table and we all danced the 'second line' The B&B is cosy, electric, clean, and filled with soft blues and jazz music. It is situated three blocks from the short ferry ride to watch the parades and visit the French Quarter, it is so convenient! After all the madness of Mardis Gras and Bourbon St.across the river, it is great to return on the $2 ferry ride to the peaceful streets of Algiers Point and hang out with 'Boudin the Wonder Dog, at the local bars. Cant wait to go back in a year or two.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for three nights just before Mardi Gras. The location was perfect! It was so easy and convenient to walk to the Algiers ferry terminal and take the ferry, and it was nice to have a quieter place to return at the end of the night for rest and recovery. Kevin and Wendy (and Boudin!) were gracious hosts and had wonderful recommendations for places to eat and things to see. We had our own room and bathroom, both clean, and there were light snacks and water provided. We definitely would stay here again and really appreciated the hospitality!

My sister and I went to Mardi Gras, and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun Bed and Breakfast. The location was great in the historic district, just a short walk to the ferry to go across the river to downtown and the French Quarters. This was our first experience at a B&B, and it was a great one. We will stay here again if we visit New Orleans in the future.

I've lost track of how many times I've stayed at the House of the Rising Sun B&B. (6? 7?) I keep going back there because it's so comfortable and homey and I love the area so much. It's located just a few minutes from several bars, restaurants, and the ferry to the French Quarter. It's New Orleans without the crazy....and it's wonderful. I will absolutely be staying there again on my next trip to the Big Easy.

Kevin and Wendy graciously welcomed me and my partner into their home for two days and we had a fantastic stay. The room was comfortable, clean, and charming. The breakfast was delicious and vegetarian too (something Kevin and Wendy were happy to accommodate). Best of all, Kevin and Wendy were fantastic host. They were friendly and interesting to talk to. They made sure we had all the comforts of home. They also provided ideas and guides for fun and quirky things to do while we were in town. After we left and I realized that I had left a shirt there, they also coordinated with me to make sure I got it back with ease. From the beginning to the end of my trip, I felt that Kevin and Wendy did everything to make sure I had a comfortable stay. Next time I am in town I will be staying with them again.

Returned to this gem of a property for another visit in October 2019. This was my first time staying in the Memphis Minnie Room. I usually opt for the Frogman Henry Room but it was already booked. I was not at all disappointed by the change of scenery, and enjoyed the novelty decor in this room, which both honors the city's jazz tradition and gives a wink and nod to New Orleans' historic Red Light district. As with the room I usually stay in, this one was spotless, comfortable, and quiet. My 21 year old daughter was able to join me for a couple days as well and we had plenty of space sharing this room. This was also my first time staying with Kevin and Wendy where they had a full house and all rooms fully booked at max capacity, as I typically travel here for business and tend to be more of a mid-week, low-season visitor. While I always enjoy Kevin and Wendy and Boudin's undivided attention, it was a treat to share breakfast with a full table of visitors from different parts of the US and abroad! This visit fell the weekend immediately before Halloween and during Voodoo Fest and a Saints home game, so the city was particularly abuzz. It is always nice to be able to retreat to the peace and quiet of Algiers Point after being immersed in the energy of the rest of the city. That's possibly one of the best things about the neighborhood - proximity to the Quarter, CBD, etc, but separated just enough to escape when you're ready. Unfortunately the ferry was not in operation this visit, so we had to rely on the terminal-to-terminal bus service and Lyft, which made getting over to the East Bank somewhat less convenient than usual, but I understand the ferry is back in service now and visitors are able to once again be across the river and into the fray of Canal Street within 10-15 minutes of stepping out the door of the House of the Rising Sun. I will be returning again in just a few weeks, as I consider this place my home away form home in New Orleans. Can't wait to head back!
