It was our first time in the French Quarter and I couldn't be happier with our visit! Before we even got there, we received a 70 page (not kidding) email attachment listing all the best places to see, do, and eat anything we could have ever dreamed! The dining room is filled with information on things to do as well... More

We spend a quick weekend in New Orleans and this B&B is great! The location is perfect for walking and enjoying the music, food, scenery, then have a quiet place to retreat to. The house is a sight to see, lots of cool history on the walls that probably have stories to tell! We did not stick around for breakfast,... More

Dear wchopin, It's so great to hear that you enjoyed your time with us in NOLA. Yes, we have lots of stories to tell. For instance, ask Mary about the banana plant in the courtyard from Cuba in 1958. She'll fill you in on your next visit with us! More

This was my first time at the Banana Courtyard , so first off, my friend and I stayed in the Pirate's Attic the first two nights, and my friend said it was too "musty" so we were then moved to the Steamboat Room which was a lot bigger, but the bed was hard. Breakfast was bakery goods and coffee/juice. I... More

Dar MissMuffet1234, Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you mentioned the new trolley that will be running on Rampart Street. We believe that it will open up all kinds of new shopping, restaurants, and neighborhoods for our guests--all for $3.00 a day. We hope it will be up and running if you return, so you can experience it for... More

For me it is a truly treasured experience when you travel and you stay at a gem of a place where you discover that it seems like you can actually feel the veins and arteries that are the lifeblood of the place. This Banana Courtyard B&B is a venue where you feel part of the extended family and welcomed into... More

Dear AW_Adam, We have many, many guests come and stay with us at the 1870 Banana Courtyard, but few have described what we do as well as you! As you have said, this is definitely not a "cookie-cutter" experience--but who wants that when you come for the first time to visit a city as magical as New Orleans? We have... More

Reading this B&B website and reviews I was very excited about our stay. Needless to say I did not feel the southern hospitality. Our night was ok when we checked in. Seemed awkward and stuffy. We got a drink and a map of the area, the man checking us in was slightly hard to understand, but nice. The questions we... More

This was my second visit. It is a quirky place but seems since I was there last that a lot has deteriorated? Maybe it is down to 'cutting a lot out', but the cleaning was really bad (our bathroom floor was really dirty and the shower was absolutely useless). I suppose since it such an old establishment there are reasons... More

Dear Englandswings123, It was with a great deal of sorrow and disappointment that we read your recent review of our B and B. When you were here, the owners had left for vacation and, as you rightly pointed out, some problems ensued. In addition, Mary's health has not been good due to difficulties with neck surgery. However, none of this... More

The pictures of the exterior did not equate with what we came across. I booked this hotel based on its quirkiness and location. We discovered that the location is at the very bottom of the French quarter - something to bear in mind when one has to walk all the way to Canal street to find somewhere that has wifi.... More

Dear steffie2010, Thank you for your recent TripAdvisor review. We are happy that you found Richard helpful during your recent visit to New Orleans. However, our B and B clearly did not meet your standards--or ours, for that matter. The owners are SERIOUS about investigating what happened during your stay. For instance, whether they are on-site or not, our high... More

Dear Denise G, In this day and age, so many people over-use the word "charm" to describe everything from doghouses to dinners. Returned again to Banana Courtyard for the 12 year, again felt very special especially since Richard has returned to help with all the day to day activity. He makes southern hospitality something everyone could learn. Love the place and so happy we can return yearly to our southern family.

A very interesting place, lots to look at inside, the host was very nice and I really enjoyed staying here. At the moment there are road works on North Rampart and it does get a little noisy at times.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
