I wanted to leave a five star review after my first thirty minutes here, but out of a sense of obligation to my fellow Tripadvisor users, I waited until the end of our stay in order to offer a thorough review. My husband and I love it here! The night before we arrived, we looked at the website, and he said, "Oooo! This is the place I've been looking forward to!" The Lookout Inn lived up to the hype, and will surely be the highlight of our cross country road trip. With COVID-19 in full force, we knew we couldn't do a lot of the activities we normally look forward to when we visit New Orleans. This was the perfect COVID safe place to hide out from the world. The rooms...are huge! It almost feels like two separate rooms, because the bedroom and living areas are separated by a partial brick wall. We stayed in the Bollywood Suite, and as a recovering hippie, I was loving the bohemian vibe full force. What would you want to know? The bed was comfortable. The bathroom gianormous! Hello, clawfoot tub! Couch in the living area, along with a mini fridge. You'll have access to the kitchenette with sink, micro, and toaster oven in the pool cabana. BBQ grill on site as well. The courtyard area was majestic. Cute pool, and a hot tub! Done and done! The owners are adorable and super sweet. When Kelly found out my leg was injured, she was able to move us to the bottom floor so I didn't have to climb steps. What else? Say it with me, dog friendly! Lots of free street parking. The neighborhood. I read what someone else wrote that said the neighborhood was bad. I disagree. The neighborhood felt safe to me, and from what I've read, the Bywater is the new, up-and-coming neighborhood in New Orleans. I hate using this term to describe this area, because I hate the word, but love this neighborhood, but shall we say it has a hipster vibe? And what the neighborhood lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for with quality. Quality eateries, quality bars and breweries, etc. This is the place you stay when you're done with Bourbon Street. And honestly, who isn't after...oh I'd say...about twenty minutes. LOL! Close enough to Frenchmen Street and St. Claude, but I find even Frenchmen has become a bit overrun in recent years. Drawbacks? Minor, if any. The pool wasn't heated, so I didn't go in it. Though I knew this when we booked, and I bet I'm one of those rare weirdos that like to go swimming in 50 degree winter weather. LOL! I'm sure it's fabulous in spring and summer. There are train tracks nearby and you can hear the train, but it never bothered me or woke me up. I suppose I'm in agreement with Jimmy Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life when he said, "The three most exciting sounds in the world...anchor chains, plane motors and train whistles." Once when we heard the train my husband said, "That's it! I'm giving this place four stars!" I said, "You're joking, right?!?" He grinned, "Yeah, I'm joking." =) We were discussing the inn on our last night here and I asked, "So...is this our new place when we visit New Orleans?" Yes, yes it is. We will be back!…
A really gorgeous house, lovely yard that includes both pool and hot tub and great hosts. My partner/gf and I visited right before Halloween 2020 and Hurricane Zeta had a direct hit on New Orleans during our stay. Kelly and Matt kindly provided us food, beer and flashlights and all were super appreciated when we lost power during the hurricane. The rooms are super pretty with high ceilings, comfortable lounge area and super large, cool bathrooms. Percy and Flora were the icing on the cake to a wonderful stay (which was our first...will definitely be back for our 2021 NOLA trip!). Bywater is a really cool area and you'd have to be a fool not to like this place and appreciate the owners' hard work.
I rented a couple of the suites for a birthday staycation during the Covid Lockdown. Most places in New Orleans where I would usually celebrate were closed, so I wanted somewhere chill and private to have a relaxing pool day with a very small group of friends. I am so glad that I found the Lookout Inn. All the care they put into every detail really takes the experience above and beyond! From the beautifully decorated room, to and stocked pool cabana, we were blown away. Thank you so much Kelley, I will definitely recommend when I have family visiting, And hopefully be back soon!
Just blocks away from Bacchanal Wine! This hidden gem is where you want to hang in the Bywater, if you are over being in the quarter and the CBD's touristy mess and want a real southern getaway this is the place. Clean, quiet, private, beautiful and way better than an airbnb, this is a lovely family run place to stay. Great for adult families, to host your parents in town, staycation by the pool and the perfect place to enjoy how NOLA lives.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. If you are planning a trip with several people I highly suggest renting the entire property as we did. There are two rooms on the second floor of the property and two on the main floor, all are separate from the owner's unit. It's 10X better than renting hotel rooms for large or small groups of travelers. The rooms are sparkling clean, the AC is powerful for those hot summer days. There are room fans to circulate the air and high ceilings that make you feel like you are rooming in decadence. Kelly will bend over backward to make your stay unforgettable. She ran to the store before we arrived and purchased all the cold drinks we requested and snacks. She ensured that our common pool area was tidy and ready to relax daily. The location is unbeatable in my opinion because it's where the heart and soul of New Orleans lives. Kelly is an excellent communicator, if you need anything or have an issue, communicate it with her and she will wave her magic wand and make it right. The pool area is a great place to relax around. WE CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN.…
