We loved our time spent at the lovely Lookout Inn! The cool, clean pool and outdoor bar area was a perfect night cap to our summers day stay. The room was cool and tidy with everything we could have needed during our visit. The tall ceilings and large windows give the room that old New Orleans feel. The comfy bed, flat screen tv, and claw foot tub we added bonuses that we also enjoyed. Last but certainly not least, the Inn Keeper Kelly was a more than gracious host, with a list of perfect restaurant and bar recommendations. A must stay on your next visit to the Big Easy!

We currently live out of state but we return home often to visit our families and friends in New Orleans and our visits tend to be a week or more. We usually stay at a random hotel but this year we decided that it would be fun to stay at The Lookout Inn; let me tell you what a good decision that was! Kelly and Mark have such a great space; there's a pool, a hot tub, and an outdoor cabana - it's a veritable oasis in the city. If I could live there year-round, I most certainly would. The rooms are comfortable with private bathrooms, a sofa, TV, refrigerator, and parking is easy – all around a super cute place! We were also fortunate that we, along with friends, were able to rent the whole house for the second half of our trip for French Quarter Fest and it was an amazing place to serve as a meet up spot and for socializing. Love. Love. Love. We will be staying at the Lookout Inn for our future trips home. Thanks Kelly, Mark, Tiny Flo, and Percy – by far, one of best trip home yet!

We were surprised by the spaciousness of the Mission suite. We stayed four nights and were it not for air reservations would have opted for longer. We found two reasonably priced restaurants within easy walking distance, plus a bar with a good burger a few doors away. Evenings, we unwound in the courtyard. We did not use either the pool or the hot tub, but enjoyed the overall atmosphere.

My wife and I stayed here four nights recently while on a road trip of the Deep South USA. This is an old house split into three apartments for rent along with living accommodation for the owners (Kelly from England, Mark, their baby daughter and English bulldog Percy). We stayed in the Mardi Gras room on the ground floor which was full of appropriate memorabilia. Out back there is a small yard containing a pool, hot tub and cabana where guests can enjoy some afternoon sun (we visited in Spring, the pool I am sure will be more welcome in the hotter months!). Plenty of free parking is available on the street either directly outside or within a few yards. Jack Dempseys restaurant is virtually across the road and there is a small bar 20 yards away, along with other bars & restaurants in the neighbourhood within easy walking distance (try "The Joint" for BBQ food!). There is no breakfast offered in house, but again there is a breakfast cafe probably 10 minutes walk away, but we preferred to walk a little further towards New Orleans French Quarter before we took breakfast each morning (we highly recommend the Satsuma Cafe, a 15 minute walk away). Kelly, Mark and family (we met Kelly's Mum!) were lovely and we had a good chat poolside when we discovered that I had worked in the area Kelly grew up in! The cabana out the back has a tea & coffee machine with an abundant selection of both drinks to help yourself to. There is even some alcohol on offer! We enjoyed our time at the Lookout Inn, but there are some things that prevented us awarding a 5 star rating. Firstly, the location on the edge of town (Bywater) is scruffy and a little edgy, having said that we never felt in danger even though we tended to walk everywhere (it's a 35 minute walk into the French Quarter). You can drive to the edge of the French Quarter in 5 minutes and find plenty of free street parking if you park on the east side of Elysian Fields, leaving a very short 2 minute walk to Frenchman Street. In addition, there is a goods train line that runs perhaps 50 yards away from the house and some nights we were disturbed by a goods train blowing its horn to alert drivers on the local roads it crossed, on one occasion we believe this happened 6 times in one night (usually less so though)! We also had an issue with the drain from the toilet blocking up one night, only for it to overflow! A plunger was present in the bathroom, so I was able to clear it myself and clear up the water which flooded the floor. So almost a 5 star rating, but not quite!

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such an extensive review about your recent stay with us. It was a pleasure having you guys. What a small world, huh?? I'm glad you enjoyed the colorfully appointed Mardi Gras Suite, our outdoor area and the plentiful street parking. The Bywater is a changing neighborhood, but very authentic New Orleans being a bit rough around the edges. It is a working neighborhood with lots happening, both railroad and river boat noises transporting cargo along the Mississippi. I'm sorry to hear about the toilet issue. Had I known, I would have been happy to take care of it for you. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your Deep South road trip. Please come and see us again! Best, Kelly, Mark, Florence and Percy
