I arrived during 4th of July weekend and the Essence Festival. It was the cheapest (still $165 a night) and closest spot to the French Quarter that I could find. It was a pleasant surprise. I was greeted at my car and helped with my bags. I was given an upgraded room in the guest house with better access to... More

When we first walked up to the Lions Inn, we encountered two women who had just checked out. "Have you seen the garden yet?" they asked. "It's paradise." We rang the bell. Ed, the charming, low-key owner, showed us to our room, right off the garden with its lush foliage, palm trees, koi pond, hot tub, and a lovely swimming... More

This is the third time I have stayed at Lions Inn. Ed and the staff always make me feel welcomed. Ed and staff do a great job of keeping the place clean and inviting. The breakfast in the morning is always ample. The pool area is like a tranquil tropical oasis after a busy day of touring around the magical... More

I cannot say enough good things about the Lions Inn. First of all, the website photos do not do it justice. From the quaint rooms, to the beautiful pool, I can’t express how lovely the whole place is. The innkeeper, Ed, has got to be one of the kindest men I’ve ever met. In dealing with his replacement (whose name... More

Love this place. They used to only book by word of mouth. I'm not saying much...I want to keep it secret. It is intimate and quiet...you won't feel comfortable with kids and frankly you may offend people. It is relaxed with a very local feel. There is the BEST breakfast at the bakery nearby. Get the boudin and eggs. They... More

This place is just about six blocks away from Jackson Square but it is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. Our room was beautiful and comfortable and we didn't hear any traffic from the street. Around back the courtyard opens onto a sparkling pools with a heavily landscaped back yard. This was so perfect we didn't want to leave. And the... More

My husband chose this B&B and we stayed here with my MIL for a short trip. I have nothing bad to say about it. It's a couple of blocks from Frenchman's Street and maybe half a mile from the French Quarter. It's in a quiet residential location and we didn't experience any problems. Ed, the owner, is nice. The backyard... More

Lions Inn is a rare gem. It offers a heavenly perch conveniently located to all things musical, gastronomic, commercial. It is quiet and offers a magnificent garden, pool, hot tub, a wonderful retreat from the heat and bustle of the city yet so centrally located to the french quarter, etc. Ed, the owner, sets a most personally warm and hospitable... Fantastic place. Great location and no noise at all. The bedroom was very comfortable and it was all clean and neat. The breakfast was very good and complete, and the owner is a very nice, helpful gentleman. It has a beautiful patio with a pool and a hot tub (we didn't use it because of the bad weather). We will... Visited in Feb for the tail end of the Mardi Gras with a group of friends. As we had 5 of the rooms booked it really was a bit of a Brit invasion but the rest of the guests didn't hold that against us! All of our rooms were great. Some bigger than others but all neat and tidy with... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
