First, if you want Hilton, Waldorf or Holiday Inn accommodations DO NOT stay at St. Vincent's Guest House. If you're traveling to New Orleans on a budget and you want a convenient place to stay in a nice area of New Orleans, then St. Vincent's Guest House is the place to stay. In the Garden District of New Orleans (a... More

I absolutely LOVED this place. Our room was super clean and we had our own en-suite. My friend, myself and my son shared a room and, besides the ghosties above us, it was absolutely perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, as well. I would definitely stay there again.

This place is an IDEAL GETAWAY PLACE. Four days of unwinding. Major street but no noise. Landscape relaxing. No radio or tv in the room, EXCELLENT! I WAS SO RELAX when I went to my convention. TV lounge was an excellent place to talk with others. I will surely use this place again!!! The bus is the best way to... More

Exactly what we wanted and exactly what we expected! This place had a lot of character and great people. The pool, courtyard, and bathroom were wonderful. We just completed a road trip covering 22 states (11 lodgings) in 28 days. For this trip St Vincent's wins for our families favorite lodging. Our room and bath were large, walls were are... More

The worst place ever! Filthy! Looks like a flop house! Checked in and out within 30 minutes. Scary place! Wish I had taken photos. Could be a great place but needs complete renovation. Don't be fooled by the photos they posted. Looks nothing like that. Old, worn out mattresses. We were scared to sit down anywhere!

The rooms are clean and well kept. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's in a great position in the garden district. Easy walk to the French quarter. There are nice restaurants close by. Pool in the guest house. Great spot to relax and socialize with other travelers.

Saw bad reviews but still went, glad we did. It was an orphanage build in 1860, so a little worn but they are making repairs. Don't expect the hilton for these prices. Great location, wonderful staff.

Never stayed here before - won't ever stay again. Wanted a authentic old style vibe and based upon the pictures looked like a cool old vintage guest house... for the price I figured we would try it out. Old does NOT have to mean dirty - this place was just a step above a crack house I'd imagine. Room reeked... More

I have been a globetrotter and backpacker for 15 years, and have travelled around the world living in all sorts of places and accommodations an a low budget. The standard of St Vincent Guest house cannot justify the price per night, and I compare their standard with places I have lived that cost from $ 1.50 til $ 7 per... More

This is my first time leaving a bad review for anything, but I feel I have to warn others not to visit St. Vincent's Guest House. It is very run down, so bad faucets are not working, and paint is falling off the walls. The staff lives on the premises and seem to find it appropriate to be drunk and... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St. Vincent Guest House is Under New Management!!! As of December 1, 2013 The Guest House will be operated under a new management team that is dedicated to improving both the aesthetics and overall condition of the entire establishment. Steps are being taken to bring this beautiful and historical building to its fullest potential and offer our guests a wonderful experience and comfortable stay. St. Vincent's is not a full service hotel, it is more of hostel/quaint budget hotel that is both economical and located in one of the best areas in the City of New Orleans. (The Lower Garden District) First opened in 1861 as a orphanage; the building has a distinct and colorful history that is worth exploring. The lobby is adorned with photos that reflect the history and show the building's usage over the last 100+ years. Each room has an individual decor and design scape that will make you feel as though you are walking into an era of Nola history gone by... The grounds are well kept and offer several areas for outdoor seating for morning coffee, an evening cigar or just great conversations... Our staff have been trained and are dedicated to providing each guest with the highest level of customer services with courtesy and a smile. Although there are not a great deal of amenities available, every guest will find that the Guest House offers a tremendous value for the price. We have both private sleeping rooms as well as dormitories available. There have been several negative reviews that have been posted in the past and those reviews have been duly noted and taken into consideration for action as we move towards improvements... Likewise, there have been several positive reviews from guests who have enjoyed their stay and the experience at the Guest House; and for that we are thankful! We look forward to this new era at St. Vincent's and welcome each and every guest with open arms... ... more   less
