I have been a globetrotter and backpacker for 15 years, and have travelled around the world living in all sorts of places and accommodations an a low budget. The standard of St Vincent Guest house cannot justify the price per night, and I compare their standard with places I have lived that cost from $ 1.50 til $ 7 per... More

This is my first time leaving a bad review for anything, but I feel I have to warn others not to visit St. Vincent's Guest House. It is very run down, so bad faucets are not working, and paint is falling off the walls. The staff lives on the premises and seem to find it appropriate to be drunk and... More

This was our first time staying in a hostel and we thought we'd jump into it feet first to get this experience under our belts. If you are looking for fancy digs then this place is not for you. If you are looking for a really cool experience out of the norm then it is! This hostel used to be... More

Great place to stay, rooms are basic but CLEAN, perfect if traveling on a budget (you get what you pay for). The guest house is very old but I loved that about the place. There is a nice coffee shop across the road and the street car going to the French Quarter is around the corner

It was reasonably priced, great location. Walking distance to different things. Quiet at night, comfortable bed. If I had one suggestion, it would be to wipe out the refrigerator and clean the ceiling fan. Otherwise, good. Staff was very friendly.

I spent two nights here over 4th of July weekend. I had a private, ensuite room on the 3rd floor. The property is a bit drab but charming overall. No complaints on the room. The sheets and towels were all clean and fresh, the room and bathroom were clean, there was good water pressure and hot water in the bath/shower.... More

Unfortunately the TV in my room didn't work. When I went to the front desk (who wasn't very helpful) to enquire about it I was told that none of their TVs worked. I now see that their websites states that their rooms don't have TV but it stated quite the opposite when I booked my room a while back. It... More

Whatever you do, DON'T book this place through booking.com. They advertise rooms with "free cancellation" but what they don't tell you is that the guest house charges a spurious $10 "admin fee" - so not free at all. I complained about this to booking.com who incredibly said to me "well it is free" ...but ONLY if you can be bothered... More

Obviously there are a lot of strong opinions on this board and others about St. Vincent's guest house, This is not a 5 star hotel but you knew that when you saw the prices. Many of the negative reviews are greatly exaggerated however, one called it the worst hotel in the world. It is far from that. It is not... More

This was my first time to visit a hostel. I would for sure do it again after my experience here at St. Vincent's. I happen to visit at off season, so I had a room with 4 bunk beds to myself for 2 nights and a couple of girls came on my 3rd night. I had read reviews before coming... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St. Vincent Guest House is Under New Management!!! As of December 1, 2013 The Guest House will be operated under a new management team that is dedicated to improving both the aesthetics and overall condition of the entire establishment. Steps are being taken to bring this beautiful and historical building to its fullest potential and offer our guests a wonderful experience and comfortable stay. St. Vincent's is not a full service hotel, it is more of hostel/quaint budget hotel that is both economical and located in one of the best areas in the City of New Orleans. (The Lower Garden District) First opened in 1861 as a orphanage; the building has a distinct and colorful history that is worth exploring. The lobby is adorned with photos that reflect the history and show the building's usage over the last 100+ years. Each room has an individual decor and design scape that will make you feel as though you are walking into an era of Nola history gone by... The grounds are well kept and offer several areas for outdoor seating for morning coffee, an evening cigar or just great conversations... Our staff have been trained and are dedicated to providing each guest with the highest level of customer services with courtesy and a smile. Although there are not a great deal of amenities available, every guest will find that the Guest House offers a tremendous value for the price. We have both private sleeping rooms as well as dormitories available. There have been several negative reviews that have been posted in the past and those reviews have been duly noted and taken into consideration for action as we move towards improvements... Likewise, there have been several positive reviews from guests who have enjoyed their stay and the experience at the Guest House; and for that we are thankful! We look forward to this new era at St. Vincent's and welcome each and every guest with open arms... ... more   less
