The Holiday Inn Superdome is a large, older concrete structure built in 1968, two years after the Saints Football Team started playing. It was built as a larger full service, event type Howard Johnson’s, boasting 300 rooms with full banquet facilities. The property is located within walking distance of the Superdome, in the Central business District. Converted to a Holiday Inn in the early 90’s the hotel has been maintained quite well and has a nice look, or “Curb Appeal.”
To create a more interesting property the owner invested in a really nice Mural of a Coronet that adorns the end of the building. The Coronet Mural has a 3-dimensional look and gives the Holiday Inn Superdome its Landmark Status. I thought i saw the Coronet back in the 80’s but research indicates it was completed in 1992.
Our Amtrak train, the Southern Crescent, was scheduled to arrive around 10:00 PM so I chose the Holiday Inn for a one night stay due to its proximity to the Union Station complex, less than 5 blocks. It’s a good choice for anyone visiting New Orleans that isn’t interested in staying in the French Quarter or Garden District. For any Superdome event this hotel is a great choice.
I paid for our room in advance, on Expedia, at a reasonable rate but not what I would consider cheap, but this hotel is a gem!
The Holiday Inn Superdome has a really nice bar and restaurant area that makes an impression when you come in the front entrance. We enjoyed our dinner; the food was great, and the waitress was outstanding. What I noticed was the beautiful interior design and the masterful artwork, a very nice place. Our room was even better than expected.
The rooms appear to be newer with rich tones and a well thought out design. Even the wardrobe was laid out with small shoe storage compartments, (see picture.) We were on the top floor and enjoyed a nice view of the Central Business District. The bathroom was nice with a moder walk in shower design, good water pressure and temperature. The hotel is a total property.
Another really well decorated area are the hallways and elevator waiting areas, beautiful art and furnishings that give the hotel that extra snap. If you are in New Orleans for a training seminar or a Superdome event staying here is a sure bet, really a no brainer for the price! Check it out!

From the minute we arrived til we left, we felt good about our choice. This Holiday Inn Superdome on Loyola Ave. was easy to get to and easy to check in ( turn into the garage and go in where it says to stop and register… we didn’t know so we parked in front and had to back up and then go into the parking garage) We were greeted by Lauren at the desk who checked us in in a professional and pleasant manner, answering all our questions patiently. We asked for a top floor room and our requests was granted… the 18th floor ! We absolutely loved the updated modern room, balcony and view. The bed, pillows and coverings were all comfortable, and we were extremely pleased with the cleanliness of the room. Perfect. We ate dinner at the Streetcar restaurant which was delicious, and Darryl was an excellent waiter. We brought our own snack for breakfast and used the Keurig coffee maker as we left early for a tour of the city. Checkout was simple. Our bill was correct. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. We wish all the Holiday Inns were this excellent.

Realistically if you solely focus on the cleanliness of the hotel and your room, this place is great! Our room was clean. The bathroom was well designed. It’s one of the very few hotels with showers that are properly enclosed and won’t cause water to spill out everywhere. That was fantastic! Small drawback if you are in the shower and look in the air vent it’s extremely dirty. But nothing due to housekeeping. It’s is, what it is. Everyone (housekeeping, food/beverage staff, security) at this hotel EXCEPT the front desk staff is outstanding!!

The hotel was very nice and the room was great! Very comfortable beds and great choices of pillows. Makes a huge difference. I had just been at another hotel on the way down and it had pillows that were like rocks and they gave me a terrible headache and sore neck. I loved the ones at Holiday Inn Superdome! The bathroom was a great size and had a really decent sized shower. The little extras they had were lovely and a brand I love! I’m allergic to almost all soaps except Dove and that’s the soap, shampoo, lotion and deodorant they provided. They even had makeup remover wipes. So nice. The location was perfect! We were close enough to be able to walk everywhere downtown and the French Quarter. It was a fluke that we ended up booking at Holiday Inn, but I’m so happy we did end up there. Our room was less than half of what the rest of my siblings and other relatives that attended my nephew’s wedding paid for their rooms.

We arrived at our hotel before check in so the rooms were not ready. They do offer luggage storage which was part of the reason we booked because we knew we would be arriving early. The front desk staff were really nice and friendly. They were doing repairs to the pool so it was not available, but we knew this before booking.
The room was really nice. We had a king bed, tv, roll-out desk with chair, fridge, microwave, Keurig, a sofa type chair, a shower/tub combo, and all the rooms have small French balconies. Our room faced the back of the building, which looked out onto downtown. The bed was comfortable and the room had plenty of space. The only bad thing I have to say about the room was that the sliding door to the balcony didn't want to open or close with any kind of ease. You had to force it open and shut. The balcony was the main reason we booked with this hotel so that was a bit of a let down. But other than that I can't say anything bad. Clean and comfortable!
We did eat at the hotel restaurant. I have to say the food was good, I wouldn't say great. A little pricey, but it is hotel food after all. The jambalaya was really good.
The second most important reason we booked here was location. We didn't want all the noise from the hotels in the french quarter and this hotel is less than 2 blocks from the french quarter. Making it perfect for walking to and from. There is also a bus stop and street car stop right outside the hotel. There is a great place for food right next door to the hotel called The Pythian Market. Different restaurants inside that open and close at different times. We ate from a BBQ place at the Pythian Market and it was probably the best food for the price we had while in New Orleans.
To sum it up, I would stay here again. Great price, great service, comfortable beds, large rooms, balcony, clean, and great location.
On a side note, I recommend purchasing a jazzy pass if you are planning on using the bus or street car. And download the RTA app so that you know when to expect each transportation vehicle.

Location was convenient. The room was nice. Beds were comfortable. Variety of firm and soft pillows on the bed was great. Wifi was VERY sketchy...would fade in and out in the room. Wifi in lobby was consistently good. Elevators were on the slower side and during our stay at times only 1 or 2 seemed to be operating out of the 4. The Clairanet restaurant was fantastic. Breakfast and dinner were very tasty.

I've long wanted to stay in this hotel because of its history. Despite being one of New Orleans newer hotels - it's a decade younger than me - under its original Howard Johnson's moniker it was the site of a unique event in the city's history.
Premium king city view room very spacious. Strong WiFi. The in-room card identifying which TV network corresponds to which TV channel is surprisingly accurate.
Very convenient to the Saenger and Joy theaters.
The hotel has a restaurant and bar, and a counter that sells coffee, other drinks, salads and parfaits, but has limited hours of operation.
The room has a Keurig coffee maker, but no bottles of water are provided. The restaurant will sell you a Coke or Diet Coke in a cup, but there isn't a pantry where you could buy a 20 oz. soda or a bag of chips or candy bar.
Room key has to be scanned to get the elevator to carry you above the parking garage levels.

Overall, the hotel was great for the price and our needs. Rooms were clean and spacious enough. Facility was kept clean, with the exception of construction that began halfway through our stay. The area was quiet, despite other reviews saying it was not. Ubers we’re cheap to where we had to go, as well. The pool area was nice. Due to the construction, the elevators ran VERY slow and could get very hot. When coming down from the 17th floor, expect to stop 5 times at a minimum. Construction workers also kept the door open in the elevator causing it to get stuck at times. The hotel has a lot of events, causing the lobby to get extremely crowded during check in and check out. We opted to not use the then down service but, at times were in need Of towels or toilet paper. Either no one answered the phone, or no one brought them up. There was no supervision at the pool, and frequently children were left unattended. While this is not on the hotel, it still became an inconvenience when they took all the towels or threw sun loungers in the pool. Lastly, when booking through a third party site, a handicap room was the only option. I am not sure if this is just for those rooms or any city room, but the balconies were bolted shut. While I do understand in some areas , this is a safety issue, it was just a bummer as we had booked the hotel for the pool and balcony based on others reviews.

I had a huge problem with doorway to my room. The door opener was broken. It took several calls to the front desk before they sent engineering to try to repair it. He worked on it for over an hour. Then around 7:15 pm, when I had arrived at 3:15, the engineer suggested I ask for a different room; he wasn't sure if he could repair the door opener. There were no towels at the pool. Parking was $40/night, although there was a sign indicating that the monthly rate was $98.00 per night. Overall, I won't stay there again. There are better hotels with more reasonable rates. Some even include coffee and breakfast.

I've been staying here 10 to 15 days every month since spring for business. The entire staff have been very nice and pleasant during every stay. The restaurant staff have been very attentive, especially the morning staff as I have breakfast there every morning of my stays. Amy behind the bar makes you feel welcome and relaxed with a very inviting atmosphere. Officer Huey with the security staff is a very nice person and has become my go to guy if I have any questions about local fare. Keep up the good work!!
