My husband and I stayed at Chez Ellie-Marie on a visit to New Orleans to see our daughter, who is a student at Tulane. This is a beautiful, welcoming home full of antiques, art, and charm. Owners John and Edwina are lovely hosts, attending to every detail, providing fabulous breakfasts in a gorgeous setting, and offering valuable insight and guidance...

This B&B is very nice. Our room was the size of an apartment. Bedroom, bath, kitchen, living room. We had our own entry but it is up a flight of stairs so you would need to be able to handle stairs. One block from the street car. Excellent breakfast. John and Edwina are lovely.

My friend and I spent five nights at Chez Ellie-Marie last fall. We arrived from the airport quite late (near midnight) and we were still warmly greeted on the front porch by our wonderful hosts John and Edwina. The historic home is stunningly decorated and speaks volumes to history buffs, architecture lovers and romantics! Every attention to detail was given,...

Our family stayed at Chez Ellie-Marie for four days on the occasion of our son's graduation from Tulane. The joy of the occasion was greatly enhanced by our charming surroundings in a quiet, Uptown neighborhood. If you wish to experience a different part of NOLA, full of charming stores, restaurants, trees, and lovely homes, this is the place for you....

Just spent a lovely weekend at Chez Ellie-Marie with my husband and daughter. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Edwina and John, who showed us around their lovely B&B. We stayed in the upstairs suite: two bedrooms and a bathroom, along with a comfortable family room with TV, and a kitchen. We were delighted to find chilled sparking cider, grapes,...

I just returned from a road trip that two friends and I began in New Orleans. Our stay at the Chez Ellie Marie was a highlight and perhaps our favorite part of the trip. We're all retired and like to travel comfortably, and I’m glad to say Chez Ellie Marie far exceeded our needs and expectations. First, we loved the...

Our accommodations included two bedrooms, one bath, living area, and kitchen. Private entrance and free off-street parking. Quiet street. Walking distance to street car. The owners were very helpful, and prepared a wonderful breakfast. I highly recommend the Chez Ellie-Marie.

This is a beautiful old house that offers the appealing ambiance of a 'home'. I had a most comfortable, relaxing stay there while my own home was being repaired. It's proximity to the street car line, in a beautiful area of the city, is a welcome bonus. Overall it was an experience in excellence-- the room, the food, and the...

We just returned from a great trip to New Orleans and stayed at this B and B. Our hosts were wonderful making us feel very welcome in their home. The home is over 100 years old and full of interesting things to look at. We had a bedroom with private bath, a smaller room with a fridge and small table,...

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
